We had a trip out to Barrowford just outside Burnley, Lancashire.
Our destination, Pendle Heritage Centre
The gardens and park are beautiful and after a very nice lunch
in the tearoom, overlooking the 18th century walled garden
we set off for a stroll round.
In the museum you can find out all about the mysterious Pendle Witches,
the Bannister Family including Sir Roger Bannister the first athlete to run a mile
in less than 4 minutes. I hadn’t realised that the inspiration came from Pendle Hill
for the international Quaker movement.

I gave my me made brooch an outing. I made it a few years
ago after being inspired by London based textile maker Jessie Chorley
and being on a couple of her workshops in Wales and Nottingham.
‘Don’t panic Mr Mannering’ as they would say on Dads Army.
After checking the government website it would appear that my
lovely 18 year old VW Beetle will run on the new E10 unleaded
petrol. Phew ! that’s a relief. Have you checked your car ?
And lastly for our
my nephew Jacob started at high school yesterday, while
his sister Olivia will be moving onto 6th form college.
Where does the time go.

That looks like a lovely place to visit and you always seem to go with a certain very well dressed young man 😀 it’s a big week for all those young children isn’t it. Lulu was very excited to start Secondary school this morning....let’s hope it lasts eh?

ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing how the years pass for our relatives, especially when we don't see them very often. Even my youngest great-grandson is going into year two, and his brother into his final year at primary school. But they all look very happy to be going back to schol and their friends. Kate x
Oh that looks like an interesting place. Nice gardens too. I shall have fun reading up about the witches and the Quaker connection.
ReplyDeleteIt is such an exciting time for the children. Going back to school always is (well, for most kids) I used to love going back to school. I was usually ready for it by the time come September.
Your nephews and nieces look very smart and enthusiastically smiling.

What an amazing visit you had this week. I knew about Roger Bannister, but had no idea about the Witches or the Quaker connection. You certainly saw some amazing gardens. Beautiful flowers and landscaping.

That looks like a lovely place to visit no wonder you had such a good time. I'm late getting round today as we've been gardening and sorting the pond while the weather is okay but better late than never as they say. Love the dress it's really you. I had to smile when you mentioned the unleaded petrol as the MG was running on unleaded for years without any work on the engine but the Mechanic said that the engine was so coated in the lead that it should run for ages without having any work done on it and it was still going strong for years after. It never gave up but it has been reconditioned now, well the poor old thing deserves it! It's scary isn't it where the time goes. Have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx
