Last Wednesday of 2020 deskhoppers

There’s something odd happened to my personality since we got the new carpet and had the settees recovered, I’ve turned into a tidy freak.  Not in every room in the house though, I’m working on that one.

I’ve even put all the Christmas presents away. Normally they’re strewn all over the floor for weeks.

I’ve long been a fan of Rachel Grants art and have bought several prints as gifts for friends and family over the years.
This one was a lovely Christmas gift from one of my goddaughters, she knows me so well.

This original canvas hangs in my workroom directly opposite my desk so I can see it all the time.

Here’s another I have on a wall in the kitchen.

I’ve got rather a nice book by textile artist Mandy Patullo to browse through
while the snow stops us getting out. Who knows I may even be inspired to do something.
Don’t hold your breath though.

As we leave 2020 I would like to wish you all a safe and happy new year.
Thanks for sticking with me.  Hope you’ll stick around longer than the snow.
Love Lynn

The Christmas Day food marathon

Vegetarians look away now.
You’ll only see this once anyway.

Next year I’ll be back at my Mum’s and she can cook.
Twice in 65 years is enough for me thanks very much.
Although it was very nice.

First chance to wear my Plumo velvet coat.
Teamed with Clarke’s loafers
Toast green check frock
Scarf made by local maker Cheeky Sew & Sew
A Christmas present off Philip.

A girl has to make an effort when going to her mother’s
for bacon butties for breakfast.

The Christmas Day food marathon ended with
Sticky toffee pudding made by my friend and
Neighbour Janette.

I won’t be buying Brandy sauce again it’s far to nice.
Haha

Extracts from my journal - Christmas morning

Extracts from my journal

Christmas Day

A morning filled with excitement.
There’s a buzz of anticipation in the air.

Decisions to be made
Do we open our presents before I join Mum for breakfast.
Should we open one or two
Should we save them for my return back home.

No snow on the ground.... good.
Otherwise how would I get down the hill.

Chapter One
The first paragraph

A house absorbs happiness, it blooms into the wallpaper,
the wood of the window frames, the bricks : that’s how it
becomes a home.

I’m hooked, reeled in. A read as atmospheric as the day.

We don’t need Santa

We don’t need Santa
We are giddy enough

The shopping is done for Christmas Day
The presents are wrapped

The wandering welder has bolted the door.

I’m about to change into a pair of pj’s I bought for £5 for a pyjama party 10 years ago.

My Linnaie pinafore is to good and to heavy for lounging around in.

Now you might be forgiven for thinking what’s unusual about all that.

Well, in 42 years of Christmas’s together
This is the first one we’ve had at home.
The first time we eaten a Christmas dinner together.
And only the second time in my 65 years I’ll have cooked a Christmas dinner.

This is one lockdown the wandering welder is happy to be in

It’s a bought in Christmas Eve buffet from our favourite farm shop for us this evening and a nice bottle of Pinotage.

The tv programmes are circled in the telly guide.
We’re kicking off with Would I lie to you on BBC1.
Then over to Ch4 for the Great British Bake Off
And if we haven’t nodded off there’s part 2 of
A Wartime Christmas on Ch5.

Whatever your plans are enjoy yourself.
Put the cares of the world to one side for awhile and relax.

Love from us two
Lynn & Philip

A SPECIAL BUNCH OF FOLK

There’s a bunch of ladies that I’ve never met, yet are a constant in my life.

Each Wednesday they gather together through the power of the internet to show what
they’ve been creating at their desks, to chat, to catch up on each other’s wellbeing,
to support each other and to have a right giggle.

Now even though most weeks there’s not a thing on my desk
I still show up and tip in my two pennurth and do enough to not get thrown out.

To this wonderful group of crafters, here’s a few meeting up in better times,
I want to say “Thank you for your friendship, support and chats.
You are the best and thank you to Julia for keeping us all together over all these years.

Happy Christmas to you all and thank you for the cards
and friendship.

Who knows I may get round to creating something other than a mess next year.

See you soon desk hoppers, stay safe and well
And above all enjoy yourselves.
Much love
Lynn
