THE SUNDAY SCHOOL WELDERS

Sunday School this week was about God protecting us.

My lovely hubby lent us the protective clothing he uses when welding.

The children thought it was great stomping about in big rigger boots.

They didnt like the masks too much said they were hot and sweaty.

Poor hubby has to wear them all day.

Then they did a great job on making hearts that were broken 

then mended with plasters and a sign written on them saying

"When sin hurts, God heals"

Jacob and Alisha don't look to happy, think they were waiting to go and play with the toys.

Then it was back home and started work on the Doodly Bird bags.

 Four sold already

was opening this parcel of goodies from  ADRIANNEof  TEENY WEENY DESIGN

The crochet heart is a gift from Adrianne to me.  Is'nt that so nice of her.

The two pin cushions are presents for friends and the keyholder is for my lovely sister in law.

I just love the vibrant colour of the wools she uses and the finish is superb.

CANVAS BAGS, SUE RYDER CARE & A NICE CHAT

This morning I crossed from Lancashire into Yorkshire on a scenic drive over to,

 yes you've guessed it, Todmorden (again).  But what was I doing there ?

On my last visit I bought one of these bags from the Sue Ryder Charity Shop to see if the Doodly Bird designs would work on canvas/jute. Well it did and here are the results.

AND THE REVERSE

As it worked  so well I thought what a good idea to resell them and donate £2 to the Sue Ryder Care Charity from each bag I sell.

They will sell at £8 each + £2.50 post and packing.(UK) £3.50 Europe, £5.50 USA.

I will be selling them from my Etsy Shop which you can see on the side of my blog.

In the shop I started chatting to June the manager and I was telling her the button story from Thursday's secondhand market visit. See FRIDAY' S POSTING

Its amazing what you learn when you get into conversation with people.

June told me that they send all their vintage & retro clothes, haberdashery and buttons to their Leeds and Keighley branches as they are a magnet for fashion/textile/art students and collectors of vintage clothes.  Link for  West Yorkshire shops

Ooh, I thought I can feel a visit coming on......

I hope you have enjoyed this posting, it was totally out of the blue. As I was telling my hubby I didnt even intend blogging today, as I don't do it for the sake of doing it. Only when I have something interesting to say.

Its funny though how most days something comes up that triggers me off.

BUTTONS, BEADS, PLATES AND THE BEAR

Yesterday I went to Todmorden near Burnley, Halifax and Rochdale in the UK with my friends Susan and Ruth

Butter dish and cross stitched paperweight £1.50 each

We got some real finds on the secondhand market and charity shops

I will be making some cakestands out of this £3.50 find

For my two kiddywinks next door

These lovely bracelets were made by Angelini Designs you can contact her on

As we wandered round the market in the rain I spotted a box under a stall that was full of these goodies .....

When the story unfolded about where they had come from we were all hooked.

They had been found in the basement of what once was a high class tailors on Regent Street, Ardwick Green, Salford named Lieberman's. Joanne the lovely owner of the market stall told us how the buttons dated from the early 1900's and others that were found may have been featured, along with a shop bag from Lieberman's, in the Manchester Museum.

Joanne gave me these buttons which had been left open to the elements in the basement and eroded into these fantastic textured pieces.  They are a great find for me to add to some of my art work and I will be sharing them with my friend Gemma Thorpe who works with coastal themes.
