Don’t forget to be awesome

As my lovely Cumbrian friend Maria would say
“2019 lets be having you.”

We are working on plans to spend more time with friends

Plans to visit lots of inspiring places.

Looking for new adventures.
Visiting old favourite places.

The biggest thing I hope is that it is a year full of fun,  laughter and lots of happy memories by the end of it.

2018 wasn’t  the best of years for us and a lot of our friends and acquaintances, so for me  the new year brings a renewed passion for it to be an awesome one, full of new adventures and good stories to tell here on my little blog.

Hope yours will be an awesome one.
Happy new year from

The meaning of Boxing Day

I was surprised that not a lot of people know the origins or the meaning of Boxing Day so I decided to investigate it myself.

It’s nothing to do with the start of the sales.

Or as my Auntie Gladys said
“oh it’s to do with horse racing “
Perhaps she thinks it’s origins are to do with the boxes they are transported in.

It’s nothing to do with the sport of boxing either.
Nor has it come over from the States.  They actually recognise it as a celebration of boxes, especially cardboard ones.  Seems an odd fact to me or is it a typical
American thing.

In fact it’s an old tradition started here in the UK, if Wikipedia is to be believed.

It’s from a time when people in service were given the day off and presented with a gift box by their masters.
They would then go to their own families with their gift box and have their own celebrations.

It’s a  holiday recognised in many countries and is also  St. Stephen’s Day.

Over on fellow blogger Elizabeth’s post there’s even more details

Christmas Workdesk Wednesday

Listen up you lot.
We all know it’s the silly season but you can’t eat these chocolates

I’d forgotten how much I enjoyed making these

I hope everyone at Julia’s

Dr Who/Street urchin mash up

I found these rather fab 90’s St. Michael’s cropped wool trousers today in the charity shop for £3.  They looked a bit big, but since when has that stopped me.

When I posted a pic on Instagram, one of my friends said I looked like a mixed up style of the current Dr. Who

and a street urchin.  I’ll take that description,  I like the idea of that.  The coat and waistcoat are charity shop finds that I’ve had a while and the red spotty blouse was a vintage find at Stockport Vintage Village.

My mind went into overdrive then as to what else I could do with the look.

Flicking through some images on Pinterest I came across the actress Diane Keeton.  I think she has her own great style and looks fantastic at 72.

I love changing my image and mashing things together. I’m never happier than when it’s been created  from the things I’ve foraged from charity shops

Time to put a few ideas together I think and  see what I can come up with next.
