Lockdown Diary - Ooh err ! matron

Instagram buddy Nancy has written this beautiful childrens book and her lovely daughter has illustrated it.  All the proceeds are going to The Brain Tumour Support Charity

Why have they done it ?

Because Nancy has cancer of the brain.   If you know her you’ll be aware that she doesn’t let it define who she is and even on her worse days will have something positive to say.

Turn away now if you’re squeamish

I did something on Wednesday I’ve never done before, I gave blood and yes I will be doing it again.

The nurse was telling me they had 140 people booked in to donate that day and that it would be the same all over the country and they do it four days a week.

It was well controlled and I didn’t feel a bit worried. Not even when I saw the amount of blood taken.  In fact I was amazed your body can afford to give that much in one go.

Under normal circumstances I would imagine everyone is quite upbeat and there’s lots of chatter. The nurse did say that Covid has changed the atmosphere, it was much quieter even with music playing.

Actually donating only takes 5-10 minutes and I was probably there less than an hour.  So if you’re thinking of having your blood sucked to help others- go for it, it’s easy.

Today (Thursday) we’ve been to check on the progress of our sofas being reupholstered.  We were allowed to have a sneak peep at them in the workshop and I was nearly squealing with delight, they are fabulous.  They’ve only got the cushions to do now so we should have them back Monday/Tuesday next week.  After that we will be on the hunt for a new carpet.  It’s all very exciting.

Tomorrow we have one lot of neighbours moving to pastures new and another neighbour and good friend celebrating her 60th birthday.  Looks like I’ll be up and down the lane with cards and presents most of the morning.

Thanks for calling by
Lynn

  1. Ooooh! Loving the look of the sofa, it looks gorgeous!
Good for you for giving blood, I've got B Positive blood and always used to but I had to have a lot of blood transfusions after my hip op and I'm not allowed to any more. I hope you got a nice cup of tea and a good choice of biscuits.
Have a lovely day socialising! xxx

    1. Giving blood was easier than I thought and I’ll definitely do it again. I don’t think we realise how important it is or how easy. No cups of tea now just juice or water but lots of packets of snacks xxx

  2. Good for you giving blood, like the lady above I had a transfusion when I gave birth to my youngest so am not able to offer my blood but I admire those who do, I am also so grateful for my own transfusion, I could literally feel strength seeping back into me within 48 hours.

    1. I could regret that I’ve not done it before but I won’t, I’ll just be glad I can do again in the future. It’s heartwarming to hear from folk who have benefited.

  3. Well done you for giving blood. I have given 47 pints and hubby has now given 60 plus. When my father was very poorly he was given many transfusions and it made me realise the true value of it so keep up the good work. Have a great week.

  4. So sorry about your Instagram buddy. The book looks so lovely. I can't give blood either, need all I've got at the moment, supplemented with iron pills to tackle anaemia. Your sofa is going to look incredible. Have a good weekend. x

  5. Hi Lynn ~ I ordered a copy of the book, I'll also look her up and follow her on instagram :) I used to give blood, but I get low on iron too often now (appears I'm not the only one!) Enjoy the new sofa and the celebrations ahead.

  6. Well done on the blood donation. I did it for years- starting with running down the road to the centre with a group of college friends. I had to stop when the medicines I have to take made my blood unacceptable!
I hope you get some nice new neighbours to replace the ones who are leaving. Kate x

I'm sorry to hear your Instagram friend has a brain tumor. Not nice at all. I hope her book is successful. It looks very sweet.
Your sofa material looks really nice. Well chosen. Please show us when you get them home.

  9. I have a friend who has brain cancer, so I feel for your Instagram friend. She takes chemo, but the meds make her sick, so she's thinking about quitting. I keep telling her not to, but she seldom listens to me.

I tried to give blood once, and when they brought out the needle and inserted it, I passed out, taking the needle and blood with me. I tried, but I can't seem to keep from passing out. I'm proud of you doing it, though.

  10. Hi Lynn well done on giving blood. I used to do it when I was at college but then seemed to stop though to be honest I just think I was so busy working that I never seemed to find the time and really should start again. Cancer is a scary thing and I feel for anyone living with it but think that Nancy has the right attitude. Have a lovely weekend and thanks for the comment over at mine. Hugs, Angela xXx

  11. Hi Lynn and great on the blood donations, somewhere around the house I’ve got my little stick pin badge for making twenty five donations, so sorry I never carried on but I had a new job and big life changes and it got put on the back burner. I’m not in the least squeamish and a member of your “none moaning” club to so the pic of your arm is no prob to me. I love teddy bears and am always rescuing them from charity shops, wash them and knit outfits then pass them onto a charity for needy children.
