Movies, celebrations and collage

Up north in Lancashire, UK,  it feels like it’s never stopped raining
since the new year kicked in.

It’s been perfect weather though for staying in and getting on
with course work and a new prompt with the No Rules Textile Society.
Saying that I’ve been wrapped up warm to avoid putting the heating on.

I’ve a new notebook for our zoom meetings and had the new
Celia Pym book bought me for Christmas. It’s a history of
damaged and repaired garments, who owns them and what
happened to them.

This is a fascinating project.
One dress, stitched by 370 embroiderers, in 50 countries
over 13 years and now on exhibition around the UK

After a great zoom meeting on Saturday with my textile friends
all around the world, I got stuck into the new prompt COLLAGE.

The stash of magazines I keep came in very handy for the
first task, creating flat lay paper collages.

Next up I’ll be moving onto creating fabric collages,
possibly working with old samples from last year.

Saturday night was the start of our friend’s Trish & Lee’s
60th birthday celebrations.  If they are anything like me it
will be never ending haha.

After I posted last weeks blog post we went to see the new
Whitney Houston film.  I know a few of you mentioned you had seen
it. Well it was amazing.  It is so sad that her life ended as it did though.

Today we are off to see the latest Tom Hanks movie
A Man Called Otto.

Let’s hope the rain holds off.

See you soon
Lynn

  1. That red embroidered dress...be still my beating heart!
Love the tile print cover of the Textile Society's notebook and your mood boards are wonderful.
A Man called Ove is one of my favourite books, we finally got round to watching the Swedish film with Ralph "Wallander" Lassgard last week. I wonder if the Otto remake will have the same ending? I love Tom Hanks! xxx

  3. You’re not on your own, it’s rained a huge amount in Wales too! Lots of flood warnings at the moment, I’m glad I don’t have to go anywhere. I do love seeing your projects, you have such a great ideas, the collages are wonderful especially the monochrome one, my favourite.

  4. You have a brilliant talent for putting collages together - just a pile of magazines transformed into little pieces of art. Isn't that dress just stunning - a credit to all those who worked on its rejuvenation. x x Jo

  5. Copied the dress link to send to my MIL. She will love it! Your mood boards are fab. I just watched a video abut turning collaged sheets like these into momigami. Paper AND fabric in one. I planned to see the original A Man called Ove now can't decide if I need to see that first before I see Otto. Not sure about the WH one - she was such a bright light for so long and her end was truly tragic. It might make me just too sad. OK, enough waffle. HAPPY WOYWW!

  6. Enjoy your film, Otto looks really good. The rainy weather is preventing me from going out and after the rain we will have . . . . frost!
What a stunning dress, will have a look at the link later, thanks for sharing.
    Have a good week

Looks like you got some nice new books.

  11. Love the fingerless gloves, I'm sitting here typing with some on too, but sadly mine are a plain beige. The red dress project is amazing. I once wanted to do restoration work but never did, fingers too affected with osteoarthritis now though so that ship has sailed. Love your collages and look forward to the fabric ones. BJ#2

  14. It's always lovely to see one of your posts pop up, Lynn, and I'm pleased to see you've got some of your blogging mojo back!
Loving your jumper and well done for putting off putting the heating on. That, I'm afraid, will never wash with Jos, who's always feeling the cold while I'm sweating :-)
The Celia Pym book looks interesting, and your paper collages are fabulous.
Sending love to you both from us two! xxx

Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x13x

  16. It has been a little damp 'up north' hasn't it.... I have been trying to garden (shakes head bemusedly) at work.... now have webbed feet.
I saw a lovely article some time ago about the embroidered red dress and thought then, what a wonderfully beautiful and empowering thing to do.

  17. It's been pretty wet this year down South this year as well, thought not too chilly. I love your handwarmers. The Red Dress is so beautiful - will you get to see it? Great paper collage, sure the fabric will be awesome as well. Hope to catch Otto next week but might not have time, may have to wait till it comes on at our local theatre which will be in a couple of weeks. Happy WOYWW, love n hugs Cindy xx #8
