The fun of meeting up with Instagram chums …

Witney News Update

FRIDAY

We headed off to Burford Garden Centre.  Last time we visited was 2017 and it didn’t disappoint.
It’s the best and most diverse garden centre I’ve ever been to.  It’s so big we didn’t even get to the
outdoor plant section.

If like me you love textiles and paper craft it’s like being let lose in a sweetie shop.
There’s even an amazing art gallery.

hi

We had lunch in the cafe and the mackerel pate, three different salads and toasted ciabatta was
the nicest, tastiest food I’ve had in a long time.

After lunch we had a browse round the food and indoor plant section.

As beautiful and painterly as this plant is I wouldn’t pay £85 for it.  So that one stayed on the shelf.

Outside we spotted this stunning tree.  No idea what it is, the flowers are huge and look
like candyfloss.

There’s a return visit on the agenda to see the outdoor section and the book shop
before we come home.

SATURDAY

We’ve, well me in particular, have packed a fair bit of activity into our
stay with my sister Jill in Oxford.

On Saturday morning I met up with fellow No rules Textile Society member Sarah.
After tea and cakes, lots of chat and chuckles we headed off for a shop in Witney Sewing Centre.
I was very restrained and only bought a thimble, some bias binding and a pack of needles.

Saturday afternoon was a wet soggy one as we headed out to visit more Instagram chums

Kathryn of C’est Tout Interiors at Milton-Under-Wychwood and Brigitte owner of
Rhubarb Rhubarb Boutique, purveyors of fabulous Italian linen womenswear.

Kathryn and her partner travel extensively to source rustic furniture from France to sell in their
amazing barn shop which also houses a coffee shop and Brigitte’s shop.

We had good fun chatting and looking round and there may have been a purchase or three.
I’ll show you them next time.

All I’ll say for now is here’s the wandering welder saying to Brigitte
‘I don’t know how far she thinks the pension is going to stretch.  She’s not even got it’s yet’

I agree with Barbara - it is a Continus coggygria (smoke bush)

  3. Love reading this and seeing all the photos of your days out and meeting up with friends. Burford Garden Centre looks like a delightful place to wander around and have a lovely lunch though the sewing centre would have it's own charms!

I don't remember if I ever visited the garden centre, but Burford itself we visited several times. Such a wonderful place! And how lovely to meet up with your Instagram pals! xxx
