Good morning desk hoppers, it’s been a busy inspiring week
in my little craftroom
I’ve started an online free machine embroidery course with Jo Hill Textiles. The basic sewing workshop that I started last week locally has come in handy.
Last night we started a bag. More of that next week.
On Saturday the No Rules Textile Society started a new prompt.
“NATURE”
I kicked off by doing a few flower flatlay arrangements, then turning
them into grid layouts on the free app PhotoGrid.
Later I brought fern fronds in from the garden, did some more layouts
trapping them into dissolvable sheeting and machine stitching them together.
I started a larger piece then realised I’d no idea how it would
turn out and decided to do a sample one instead.
Once the stitching is done you rinse the whole thing in warm
water and the plastic dissolves so you’re left with the
thread and trapped fern.
I’ve mounted it on wire onto a cardboard backing.
Happy with the result I started work on the bigger piece.
It’s on a block of foam now drying out.
I’ve got some flowers being pressed between my old ledger pages
and a new book for inspiration.
I’m like the demon designer this week.
Using bondaweb Ive ironed real flower petals onto fabric,
cut it up then appliqued it onto more fabric.
Another sample for the nature prompt.
I’m off for a cuppa now and a blog catch up.

I always come away from your blog feeling inspired - I adore the effect of free machining but never quite seem to get the hang of it! I adore those black line plants on the linens, that is gorgeous! I really must pull on my big girl pants one day and have a proper go. Your work is amazing.

DeleteYou are on a nature quest, aren't you. I have no feed dogs that drop, so I can't do free motion stitching. I love the bag, though and the flowers that look like you created a mandala. I have always wanted to use that wash out stabilizer, but have never found any in the shops here. Your ferns are wonderful. Happy WOYWW from #2.

Whenever I call in at your blog it makes me want to go back to doing more fabric stuff. I still have some of the dissolving fabric sheets. It will be interesting to see how the ferns look when they dry out too. The flowers lookgorgeous too. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x18x

DeleteI had a busy morning shortening 3 hems on a bridesmaid’s dress and then steaming it And since lunch I’ve been for my annual diabetic eye test (although it’s 18 months since my last thanks to Covid!) so I’m just catching up with a few blogs before the football starts.

DeleteI am definitely not a neat stitcher and I couldn’t do cross stitch even if I wanted to. I leave that one to my sister.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. Pick up a few bits of fabric Helen and just stitch them into a little square that you like using a simple running stitch. You’ll be amazed have restful it is. No need for an end product. It’s just a meditation xx

ReplyDeleteThanks Ann. I’ve really enjoyed myself this week but I’m burnt out today. That could be more to do with having to travel up country to see a specialist car man and the boiler breaking down at home. We are both shattered now xxx
