Reluctantly Home
This just about summed me up on Monday as we packed our stuff to come
home after six glorious days of fun and games at our caravan in the
Lake District. First visit of the year.
Just before we came away I did a free online workshop with
author and textile worker Molly Martin. 88 participants from
all around the world took part in the zoom meeting,
hosted by ethical clothes company Toast.
Following, London based, Molly’s instructions we worked
on small darning samples.
I didn’t know that it could be such a meditative thing to do.
I’m keeping my pieces between the pages of Mollys book.
Eventually I’m going to repair the ripped knee of a favourite
pair of trousers of Philip’s.
THE ART OF REPAIR
Back on the desk I’m starting this months’ Paint & Ink project
with The No Rules Textile Society that I joined earlier this year.
I’ve been playing with emulsion paint pots and fabric.
Dripping ink onto cotton with pipettes
and generally mark making with things found around the house.
Next up I’ll be adding stitch and overlaying with more paint.
Playing with fabrics to make new fabric.
In other words playing around.
Remember you’re never to old to play
Have a lovely creative week everyone.
Lynn

So glad you enjoyed your time away. That darning course sounds wonderful, but the paint and ink fabrics made me smile. My kind of play. All those fabrics will be fun to see assembled. Happy WOYWW from # 4.
ReplyDeletesome really interesting ideas on your desk this week, especially the painted fabric and lace. That’s an interesting looking book too, Toast started off in this neck of the woods, there’s a seconds shop in a town not far away.

It’s a lovely little book Jan. I think you’d like it.
DeleteI’ve got a few Toast dresses. They are very well made xx
Loving what your doing with the material - I have to make some Superhero Costumes for the dollhouse folks so I might just paint some of the designs. Thanks you for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week

You’re welcome Christine. I’m glad I’ve come in useful haha x
DeleteGlad you enjoyed your break. I love your experiments with colour/lace etc - you are such a crafty, creative lady! xx Jo
ReplyDeleteLove the textiles & paint, fun and gorgeous to look at, but the darning looks so neat and so USEFUL! My darling daughter gets holes in trousers all the time, and it would be a handy skill to learn. I must investigate...
ReplyDeleteWhat a morning, but I'm here now… HAPPY WOYWW!

Totally love watching your creations evolve. I'm taking part in a sewing project but am a bit scared to hand in my 'creation' because I've had a look at the others' finished objects and they are stunning. Mine's looks like my granddaughters made it (they did help to design it but I have to do all the sewing, painting and embellishments myself). I also totally love your beebops (shoes!).Great that you got away for a little break.
ReplyDeleteIt’s all about having a go and losing yourself in play for awhile. Matters not what others have done. Everyone has there anxieties over their pieces xx
DeleteSo glad you had a lovely time away, you certainly got the weather for it. I love the darning samples you've done, I've been finding it very relaxing to do hand sewing (and convenient as I can take it into the garden1), and the course you did sounds wonderful. Your painty fabric looks like great fun and I love those summery colours.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a great week,
Diana xx #17
Stitching can be so therapeutic and doesn’t always need an end product. I just like stitching little pieces Diana.
DeleteYour needle case is delightful xx
We are still away in our caravan, I have a yearning to pop home for a while, but that won’t happen for nearly a month. My favourite technique for fabric is batik, I haven’t done that for years. Is the fabric still soft with emulsion paint? Happy WOYWW Angela #18
ReplyDeleteIt’s a bit stiff but okay for stitching through on the machine. I haven’t tried handstitching through yet.
DeleteEnjoy your time away. I’m looking forward to going again as soon as I can clear a few days xx
I love you creative projects. The yellow emulsion paint cotton project looks great. So many great fabric pieces. I wonder what it will all look like stiched. I also love your sneakers....are they hand painted as well?
ReplyDeleteHi Ivana
DeleteNo my sneakers are made up of different fabrics. You can choose your own and your own style of show. The company is called Vans. If you copy and paste the following it will get you to them hopefully.

I can certainly imagine you went home quite reluctantly after that wonderful week away! As always, I'm loving your creative endeavours, and I'm especially taken with your fabric painting project! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann. It’s all about playing and experimenting. I’ve been stitching into them today and working out more dates to get back to the caravan xxx
DeleteI am glad you had a good holiday - shame when they have to come to an end. Looks like you've had lots of fun since though. Helen #2
ReplyDeleteGlad you had such a good break Lynn. That painty fabric work looks such fun. Can't wait to see the final results. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #3
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see one of those Toast repair workshops, such a brilliant company with wonderful ethics!
ReplyDeleteYour fabric painting is lovely, what a clever idea. Liking the look of those National Trust pots of paint, too - I think I'd have them out on display! xxx
If you go on the Toast website Vix you’ll see them. It was a lovely event. I’d certainly do another.
DeleteI picked up the National Trust paint pots in a local decorator centre. They are a bit posh looking. Lots of play going on here. Takes me back to my Textile college days xxx
Hi Lynn, doing my best to get round everyone but it's been a busy week. Loving your projects today and pleased you had a good time away. Happy belated woyww, Angela x14x
