It’s that day of the week again when a group of us do a show and tell of what’s on our desks. We also have a natter and last week we exchanged postcards and artist trading cards to celebrate 12 years of friendship.
I want to say a big thank you to lovely Annie and her sister Jo for sending cards to me and for the little bag of lace trims Annie.
Postman Sid brought me this super box of goodies from Instagram buddy Mandy Boxall aka The Dandelion Box. The little packages have all been put together so beautifully. Oyster shells from the beach, hops from the garden, homemade jam are but a few of the things included. What a lucky lady I am.
Back to the desk, I’m coming to the end of the weave prompt at my No Rules Textile Society group. Have I mentioned at least a hundred times how much I’m enjoying being with these like minded folk, even though it’s via zoom and not in the flesh. I’ve done more creating since joining than I have in months.
Last week I had a drive out with the wandering welder, we came across Forest Mill antiques centre at Water near to Rawtenstall in Lancashire, and I came home with these vintage chestnut roasters among other stuff.
They are proving very useful for the weave project I’m working on. Ive woven strips of sari ribbon woven through the holes.
That’s it from me for this week. I’ve got a man with a bad back to take care of, so I’m off shopping on my own.
There’s a link here to the blog post I wrote about my visit to see the Grayson Perry Art Club exhibition
in Manchester at the weekend if you missed it.
Take care
Lynn

ReplyDeleteWhat a lot of wonderful post you got this past week. Love home made jam.
ReplyDeleteGreat find in Water, my neck of the woods, Water, Whitewell Bottom all bring back memories of when I worked as a secretary for the Production Manager of a local felt firm. The MD's daughter and i did some great exhibition setting up at various mills in the valley. Just love those chestnut roasters and what a lovely way to use them for weaving like that.
Glad you are getting so much from the course. Keep going, it's great to see.
Hugs, Neet xx 1
ps hope his back is soon better - I know what it's like to suffer
You really ARE a lucky person. that box of goodies is amazing. I also loved seeing your incredible weaving. It is awesome. Nice ATCs and postcards, too.
ReplyDeleteYou are so lucky, with all your happy mail! Lovely stuff. I so miss living in the Barbican - a short walk from all the sari shops on Brick Lane and Spitalfields Market on a Sunday. Good times, good curry, and lots of crafty goodies to be found there. Off to check out the Grayson Perry post now - bet that was fun!

ReplyDeleteJo has just been round for coffee and a catch up and she passed on your ATC. It’s gorgeous and the buttons are so special...thanks so much. I really love the weaving through the chestnut roaster...you have such an imagination.
Hugs,

What a lovely box of goodies - beautiful wrapping and it looks like it was packed with love. Your wonderful finds remind me of a project I did at college weaving feathers through tea strainers!! I would have given my eye teeth for those chestnut roasters! It sounds like you are having a ball with your textile group - I love your little weaving. Lucky you getting to see the Grayson Perry Art club exhibition - I really enjoyed his art club through lock down.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week,

Thanks lots for my wonderful ATC package - so beautifully presented and also for the picture post which followed!! I showed Annie and gave her her little pack. She loved it all. I love what you have done with the chestnut roaster - inspired idea! xx Jo

ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing box of goodies from your friend! I have just realised those chestnut roasters would be perfect for my son, when he is cooking outside, I shall have to look out for some. I have two old bed warming pans, but I didn’t want them spoiled :) Happy WOYWW Angela #12
ReplyDeleteThat box of goodies you received looks absolutely delightful, as do your weaving projects. Using those vintage chestnut roasters - I'd no idea of the existence of these things - was a brilliant idea. Poor Philip, now off you go and spoil the poor man, Mrs. H. xxx
ReplyDeleteI just love your posts - they are so full of interest and lovely colours. I hope your hubby recovers soon. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe, with love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#22)
ReplyDeleteGreat collection of cards and a box full of gifts, looks like fun to me. Hope the man's bad back gets better soon too. The chestnut roasters look useful but I think I would use them for paint pouring probably not what you have planned for them. Wishing you a lovely creative woyww, Angela x19x
ReplyDeleteOh goodness - a bad back is no fun for anyone, the sufferer or the attending spouse!! Those chestnut pans would have come home with me too. Stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #8
ReplyDeleteWhat a coincidence, there were some chestnut roasters on the Antiques Road Trip this week. Such an ingenius use for yours!
ReplyDeletePoor Philip and his back, not nice for either of you, no wonder you're off galavanting on your own, I did the same when jon did his in, I'm the worst nurse in the world. Send him our love! xxx
I do hope the bad back is better soon Lynn. Great ATCs and a great find in the shape of those antique chestnut roasters too. Loving your weaving projects. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #2
ReplyDeleteOh the poor welder, it’s horrible, there’s nowhere to put yourself comfortably when you’ve got a bad back. I hope your are administering warm rubbings and shed loads of patience. Bet you are, making you a far better person than me! I knew those roasters were going to weave tools as soon as I saw them, you really have such a great imagination. Love that the weave group has got you going, I must admit that I could do with something, a rocket, perhaps! Jealous of your Grayson visit, must have been fab to have your sis with you for the weekend.
ReplyDeleteI love your weavings, Lynn, especially the chestnut roasters. Those holes were just begging you to pull some yarn or something through them, weren't they!! I hopped over to see your post about Grayson's Art Club and really enjoyed seeing that. Wish I could have gone.
ReplyDeleteI'm really late this week and may not get round everybody.
Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi x #24
