This week we closed up our caravan for the winter and said goodbye to our Cumbrian friends until spring. We did lark around a bit before we set off for home though.
Craft wise a friend came round to spend the day making pretty wraps to go round jam jars. Jacqui glued her piece (above) onto card before securing it round the jar. It gave it more structure.
I’m going redo mine as the stitching is to big and you can’t see the word. What I will probably do is make another and stitch this onto a skirt or jumper.

Also I’ve been entrusted with Alice the travelling petticoat and her travel journal. Alice started life in South Africa as a plain white vintage petticoat and so far she has been to the USA, Ireland, Australia, France and various areas of the UK.
Each member of the Petticoat sisterhood can add their own embellishment and write a little about themselves in the journal. The book is beautiful. It has stories of people’s lives and homes and the adventures they’ve had while the petticoat has been in their care.
So now it is my turn to add to this delightful story before I send her on her way to pastures new.
I’ll give you an update once Alice and I have got properly acquainted with each other.

And here the petticoat is ready to leave Australia
Hope you enjoyed this little story

ReplyDeleteI remember the Travelling Yellow Skirt Freakshow that did the bloggy rounds back in 2012 - it travelled the world and back!
Love your jar wraps, what a lovely idea. xxx
Hello Lynn, lovely story of the Alice petticoat. It reminds me of the time Neet's (Hickydorums) Flat Susan accompanied us on our holiday in the Highlands. She traveled around the world too. The book must be a fascinating read. The jam jar wraps are lovely. Sad to have to shut up your caravan for winter but I'm sure you'll enjoy snuggling down 'til spring comes again. Elizabeth x #20

ReplyDeleteThose jam jar wraps really bring new life to those jars Lynn, I have a few on my craft shelf that could do with a little face lift. How lovely to be the next person to story tell on that petticoat, I do love to hear of these crafty adventures. Happy WoywW Tracey #11

ReplyDeleteA lovely fascinating story Lynne and what a lovely addition your friend made. I was once in a similar round robin but instead of being an underskirt ours was a corset - mine was tiny so no way could I get in it. Your petticoat is a much better idea - at least you can wear it afterwards and see all the wonderful work.
ReplyDeleteHugs, Neet xx
What a fabulous idea - a travelling petticote! I have been involved in a book, but never anything like that. Sorry for the late visit this week. Happy belated WOYWW. Thanks for sharing. With love & God Bless, Caro x (#14)
ReplyDeleteSorry I’m late. Love the jam jar wraps..the card and lace together look lovely dont they. I do admire that you’re re-doing the stitched one - I really am still a bit of a ‘that’ll do’ type when it comes to things like that. Although I have spent ALL afternoon re-making and re-making a small card; Mr Dunnit in the end said he couldn’t see the difference between card 1 and card 5, so I’ve stopped now,, think I’ve mentally talked myself into a card making freeze! The travelling petticoat is a gorgeous project - how lucky the contributors are that its landed with you for a while, once you’ve decided what to do, I bet you’ll really enjoy being part of this sisterhood.
ReplyDeleteA fun post Lynne, and yes putting your van away is sad but Christmas is coming and that’s fun, love the petticoat and fancy it coming to Oz before you, I wonder which part of Oz?? Love the jam jar covers.
