Lockdown Diary - What times tea Mum

One of my favourite parts of the day is early evening.  The chores are done,  we’ve had our tea and nothing else is expected of me and I can settle down for the evening.

If you’re from up north meals are known as breakfast, dinner, tea and a late night snack is supper.

Although, we are also known to say shall we go out for lunch or afternoon tea.  There’s even brunch if you go mid morning.

If we have fish & chips that’s known as a chippy tea or chippy dinner.

Then what about when you go to the pub with friends, we say “we are going to the pub for tea.

If it’s a posh affair and we get dressed up, we’d say “going out to dinner”.

Don’t forget about elevenses, time for a biscuit and a cuppa.

I have a friend who has her evening meal at 6pm and calls that supper !!!  No, that’s all wrong, supper is what you have just before bed.

No wonder the weights creeping up, I don’t know what I’m eating when, looking at this lot haha.

What do you call your meal times ?

I’m sure I didn’t start this blog post to talk about meal times. I’ll have to report back once I remember what it was I was going to tell you about.

Stay safe and enjoy your day

Lockdown Diary ...... Bloggers Home Art gallery

As art galleries are still a no go area due to the lockdown, Blogger KezzieAG came up with the idea of a virtual art exhibition of folks homes.

So welcome to part one of

THE WALLS HAVE IT
HOME OF THE HOLLANDS

The tour starts with our bedroom and en-suite bathroom.
All of the pieces have been bought either from charity shops or vintage fairs.

Upto less than a year ago our bedroom had over 60 floral pictures on one wall until we decided to decorate and use this lovely grey wallpaper.

I’m late to the Bloggers Art Gallery party but you can see more homes here

Come back tomorrow to see another room
(once I’ve cleaned up a bit )

Ps. You won’t need your masks and entrance is free

What’s on your Workdesk Wednesday

Here it is, finished at last, a little book bag to protect an old precious autograph album.

Front

Back

If you haven’t seen the album you can link across here to see the inside  A VERY SPECIAL ALBUM dated 1919.

Had my posh frock on again yesterday to take Mum for lunch at our go to place, Park Farm Shop & Tearoom.  My friend and her mum were there too. It all felt very normal despite the troubled times we are all sharing.

Even so, though we enjoy the drive over the hills to get there and feel comfortable and safe while we are there, we both agreed it’s good to get back home after.

Hope all my desk hopping friends are well and being creative.  Blogland is such a great place to be.
Looking forward to seeing what you’ve all been upto this week.

Lockdown Diary - Make yourself at home

Sunday - The sun came out at last and so did the garden gate display with Big Ted and his children’s book basket, along with sweets and treats for all.

This little lady came to stay with us for the afternoon while her Mum our neighbour Brenda went to see relations.
I had forgotten how smelly those pigs ear dog chews are and how obsessed they are with them.

Here’s little Betsy making herself comfy in the kitchen on the chair we got some years ago from the BBC1 programme ‘Money For Nothing’ presented by Sarah Moore.  If you’ve never seen it, she goes to local council tips and rescues the stuff people are chucking out.  Then either she or a skilled craftsperson will upcycle the item.

Sarah did our chair herself using old wool coats to recover it. The sides of the chair are made with pieces of the front of the coat and still has the pockets.  You can also see where she has used the sleeves and back pleat of the coat.  The seat is recovered in vintage Sanderson fabric and there’s a matching cushion which Betsy had pushed off.

Next up on my reading list is another by the writer of The Botanist which I read a couple of months ago and enjoyed.  Most of the books I’m are reading are coming from recommendations by folk over on Instagram or from other blog writers.

Once the libraries reopen I’ll be going back to ours and life will be a lot cheaper.  Saying that books and having my done are my treats.  Some of my books I like to keep and reread them.

Monday was a day of pottering round, finishing a project to be revealed on my weekly what’s on your Workdesk Wednesday post.   Then I went looking at houses for sale with a friend who is moving.  Dropped some books off at another friends before picking up a bit of shopping for Mum then back home to watch the BBC1 serial ‘The Secrets She Keeps’.    I won’t tell you the ending as the last episode is next week but I watched it on Iplayer.

Stay safe and socially distanced

Lockdown Diary - And that was Saturday

Saturday brought the rain again so out came the brollies and raincoats for our trip over the border to our favourite market town Todmorden.

I picked this mac up a few years ago from a dress agency in Arnside in the Lake District.  I remember coming home with a few things from that trip.  The shopkeeper commented that the outfits I had selected had all come from one lady.  We must have both been the same size and had the same taste.

We've always favoured local market shopping over supermarkets and big towns and today it felt really like life before covid. There is always a good natter with the market traders,  tasty quality food to be bought and our favourite cafe has reopened so we popped in there as well.

The Age Concern charity shop has reopened and I didn’t think I would go in one for sometime but when we checked it out their health precautions were excellent so we went in.  We didn’t buy anything, although Philip spotted a fab pair of gents brogues but they were a tad tight on him so he left them.

The most amazing coincidence happened while I was in the post office setting up a mail redirection to have Auntie Gladys Mail sent to our house.  Turns out the family who have the post office have bought Auntie’s house.  It is to be the daughter’s first home.  I don’t know who was more tearful me or the daughter.  She was so happy to know it was me selling it and I told her how thrilled I was that she was going to live there.  I told her all about how auntie loved the peace and outlook over the fields and how nice the neighbours are.

On the way home we stopped off to see a friend and deliver a few essentials.  Next up I dropped off the wandering welder at the pub.  His Saturday teatime drinking buddy had booked them a two hour table slot.

After sanitising the shopping and putting it away there was time to finish my book before picking him up again and home for tea and an evening catching up with the papers and settling down to some programmes I’ve recorded.
A BBC1 series “Home is where the Art is” with Nick Knowles.

Philip reported that he didn’t recognise his mate who he hasn’t seen for three months. He’s grown a beard, moustache and lost over a stone.  Said the weight loss is because he’s not had any beer.  He also reported that he was super impressed with how the pub is run and organised and has no fears of going in again.  That’s good to know, we might get back out there for tea sooner than I thought.

Had a quick walk along the bridal path, then down the next lane before climbing  back up ours to get the old heart pumping.

And that my friends was Saturday.

Sunday we are dog sitting Betsy, our neighbours King Charles spaniel, while Brenda goes to her granddaughter’s graduation at home afternoon tea.

Stay safe and only do what you are comfortable with
