Foraging Round Vintage Village

A VINTAGE AFFAIR FACEBOOK
We had such a great day foraging round the Vintage Village at Stockport yesterday.
Our trader friends came up trumps with treasures that they knew we would love and some surprise ones as well. Pat and Matthew at A Vintage Affair had put my name on this quirky chappy with his retractable tape measure tail and a hole in the top of his nose for a pair of embroidery scissors.

A VINTAGE AFFAIR

We also picked up an Isle of Wight fan for my menopausal flushing mate and this poodle tin from them which I will use to keep the wooden cotton reels in that Gail at Essentially Eagle Vintage gave me for my crafting.

ESSENTIALLY EAGLE VINTAGE

The autograph book, again from A Vintage Affair (£1) has such a story to tell.  It belonged to a couple who lived in Canada and moved to England.  There friends have written little poems and good wishes in it.

I'm thinking of making the cigarette album into a display unit. Watch this space.

This magazine rack has been made from a couple of table mats, wood and plastic thread. Its so sweet.

Gail also sourced this Vernon Ward print for me to add to the collection in my bathroom.

I had put in a request for some wall hanging plates to give our garden a mediteranean feel.  Thanks Gail they are perfect.

These quality Empire linen pillowcases were a snip at £6 for the pair off Anne at The Side Room.  We already have some similar and they wash beautifully.

ASPIDISTRA VINTAGE
I wasn't looking for any clothes as my wardrobe is bursting at the seams but when Alex of Aspidistra Vintage showed me this St. Michaels gorgette frock it had to come home. Its really pretty.

20TH CENTURY STORES
Mr Dapper Chap didn't come home empty handed either. This St.Michael's wool jacket could have been tailor made for him, it fits so well.  He spotted it in 20th Century Stores and as always Alan had it on at a really good price £35.  Didn't he do well.

TIN TRUNK
While we were in 20th Century Stores chatting to the lovely Sarah of Tin Trunk I spotted this little 1920's leather bound photograph frame from her own collection and brought that home too along with the miniature tin frame.
TIN TRUNK
All in all a great day. We missed the May and June events so it was fantastic to catch up with everyone, have lots of banter, listen to the music and relax with a bit of lunch and coffee and cake.

Roll on August when we can do it all again.

I don't know why my pics are all over the show sorry
Technology and me don't get on well

What's on my workdesk today.........

It's all about foraging for fabric this week

I paid a visit to the local Salvation Army Shop and picked up two cushions, a crotchet top and a curtain, for the grand total of £5.50

As soon as I got home I turned the curtain into a cover for the garden sofa seat pad with enough left to make a blind for the bathroom window.  Then I fettled with some fabric pieces and made double sided seat pads for the chairs.

Donning my flowery charity shop frock I draped myself across the sofa looking like an English rose type of lady and waited for the weary welder to arrive home.  Then it lashed it down, so I had to abandon that plan.  Serves me right I should have been pulling them horrible weeds out that I've just noticed.

Back inside I've cut up more fabrics pieces to add to the patchwork curtains I'm making for the bedroom.

You do all know that I am not an accomplished seamstress so anything you see is comically known as The Rough & Ready Range.  Don't check out my stitchwork if you call in for a cuppa.

I've done a bit more slow stitching on this wall hanging then had to give in as the golfers elbow flared up.  Its amazing how you can get tennis/golfers elbow without even swinging a bat or a stick.

Finally I hope you all have a great creative week and that I can get to sit outside on my fancy furniture.

What's on my work desk today.....

Not my desk......
I went on a craft taster session yesterday afternoon
run by local textile artist Beverley Elliot of Scrumptious Textiles.
If you are on facebook you can find her on there.

I was interested in learning how to make a Dorset button.
I've made a start here using a curtain ring.

I also wanted to have a go at making tyvek beads

Postman Dave brought me this book so I will be having a look
to see what I can do with my old tins.  I am going on a workshop at Hope & Elvis, Worksop, run by Viv Sliwka of Hens Teeth soon who
creates fantastic embroidery/paper collages in old tins.

I'm also running up some patchwork curtains from vintage/retro fabric,
linens and hankies as well.

Will show you more as I go along.

Have a great deskhopping day

Sing as you go .......

I love Marvin Gaye's album "What's Going On" and it sure fits the bill this week but so does Rochdale born Grace Fields song "Sing as you go".
Stockport Vintage Village
I'm sure it was written for my mum as she is always singing.  So am I when I have'nt got laryngitis, which I have this week.  It was weird yesterday when tried to belt it out to a song on the radio. A little squeak came out then a bit of a huff.

"Hallelujah" shouted Philip "thats been the best thing to come out of you having a cough and cold.  A bit of peace and quiet".  I'm sure he doesn't mean it really.

So even though I have got bugs I wrapped up warm in my charity shop find cashmere cardi and stuck my head out the door to have a look at Humpty the scarecrow which young Evie and Jack from next door put together (with Mummy's help) for the local Scarecrow Festival. Isn't he a cracker.

Once back inside I pinned up the start of my patchwork curtains which I'm making from vintage/retro fabrics, hankies and linens.  I think they will look great in our bedroom.

I'm calling them my Rough & Ready Range. In other words don't look to closely.

We missed the Vintage Home Show yesterday at Victoria Baths, Manchester because of my coughing and spluttering so I'm looking forward to July's Stockport Vintage Village and seeing all our friends again.
