Lockdown Diary........ A Christmas first

For the first time in the 42 years I’ve been with Philip we will be having Christmas dinner together at home and we are both quite excited about it.

Normally we spend the morning together, open our presents, then I go off to Mum’s for a couple of hours.   I would pick Auntie Gladys up around 2pm and go back to Mum’s.  My sister would drive up from Oxford and my brother would arrive in time for a lovely meal cooked by our amazing 88 year old Mum, who has done it every year of our life, bar one when she was poorly and I had to cook it.

After our food we open presents and have a general catch up with one another.  Later on I’d take Auntie gladys home then go on to join Philip and all his side of the family at our niece’s house.  Finally returning home together around 9pm-10pm.

Due to us being in Tier 3 we have decided that this year I will go to Mum’s house for breakfast and my brother will go for Christmas lunch.  Mum’s house is a small pretty back to back house with a tiny living room and galley kitchen.  Not conducive to having a pile of folk in and keeping socially distanced.

Also my sister can’t come home as she is having an operation on Monday and will not be allowed to travel afterwards.  As you recall my lovely Auntie Gladys died in March. It’s hard to believe nine months has passed by.

Nevertheless, even though I’m not going far I’m still going to wear my new velvet coat and tartan dress.  Well I can’t go to the pub or a restaurant so it’ll have to be posh frocks at home.

On Christmas Eve we are having a Christmas buffet box from our local farm shop.  It’s to make up for the meal we are missing out on with friends.

I said I wasn’t cluttering up the lounge with Christmas tat after having our new carpet laid and the room looking so tidy.  However the welder shamed me by saying I was being a grinch, so this is my offering along with a fat plastic Father Christmas hanging from the bathroom window and one on the garden gate that is wrapped in tinsel. Talk about tasteless.

Let me know how Christmas will be different for you this year.  If it has been changed at all.

Take care and stay safe.
Happy Christmas wherever you spend it

What's on my workdesk

Last Thursday I trundled off with my bag of stuff to our
monthly craft group meeting.

One member, Sheila, had agreed to show us all how to
make these Christmas cards and another more complicated version.
I don't do complicated so stuck to this one.

I am still on with my knitting. The top one is another triangle shawl
and the bottom one is the back of  the garter stitch waistcoat I'm working on.

Apart from ramming all these crotchet flowers into this kilner jar
there is nothing else to see on my desk. No I haven't made them
before you ask haha.

So I will bid you all a creative and happy week
in Julia Workdesk land

What's on my workdesk today ....

Its been a busy time on our little enterprising lane.
I've been busy making Doodly Bird coasters.
While down the road the  Blincoe family have
been busy rounding up reindeers.
Mum Janette, as well as making a boozy Christmas cake
has been helping daughter Emma make mini gingerbread reindeers
We got to eat any that had spent a little to long in the Aga.
It was like a gingerbread factory.
I helped to design the packaging.
While all this was going on Dad Mark was taking a well earned rest and having a beer after making these fantastic rustic reindeers from the trees he had lopped in his sister Karen's garden.

Happy Christmas everyone over at Julia's blog.
Hope you all enjoy yourselves.

Time for some desk hopping

Kick us and we get back up

Oh "deer" what can the matter be ?
Well after being broken into last week and the garage door and van being wrecked
I took myself off to the local Christmas Market on Saturday to cheer myself up. It was lashing down with rain but it didn't stop the charity fundraisers, Bacup Coco-nut Dancers, doing their stuff.

Did you get all that. If not have a look at an old video of them

Bagged myself this lot for the grand total of £9.50 in a couple of charity shops.
That's the Christmas outfit sorted.
And look at this little gem
£4.50 for a 21 piece set in perfect condition
It's going straight to one of my favourite places
Park Farm Shop & Tearoom near Ramsbottom.
They hire out china crockery to customers and ask only for a donation which they then give to charity.
You may remember I went to a charity 1940's Sing-a-long recently.
So despite the miserable weather it was a good day.
The brain dead welder, as he is affectionately named, says you can't keep us Holland's down for long. Bless him.
He calls me "The out of work bum artist".
True love, you can't beat it.
