Vintage and antique textile joy

I’m here again……..   there’s so much going on this year.  It’s my 70th birthday in August and I’m not one for big parties, much preferring to do lots of different things with friends and family.  Hence why my 2025 diary is so full.

The weekend of 7th/8th June saw us out for a meal and catch up with our good friends Jacqui and John.  They are taking us to Haworth in Yorkshire for a weekend treat for my birthday.  We will be visiting the Brontë House, which I’ve wanted to do for ages.  There’ll be lots of good food, wine and laughter I’m sure.

Lunch was at The Malthouse at Ripponden
Lovely pub grounds

Sunday we took ourselves off to the Vintage Home Show at Victoria Baths, Manchester.
The wandering welder found himself a little tie pin that he put in his lapel

The original changing rooms

Events are now held in the old swimming pool

It’s an amazing building to visit at anytime

We next moved on to the annual Antique Textile Fair at Fallowfield and Mr Dapper Chap struck gold
when he came across an almost new pair of Loakes brogues for £25. They are £300 new.

Then he came across a woollen 70’s waistcoat made here in Great Britain. He paid £15, a bargain.

If you’ve never been to The Textile Society event I can definitely recommend it if only to
ooh and aah over all the fabrics, outfits and accessories. The folk who attend look amazing as well.

I couldn’t resist this 1930’s French Passementerie sample book.
The trader has a shop in France and spends the summer attending UK fairs and Brocantes.
I know my No Rules Textile gals will go mad for it.

I came away with a Victorian childs nightie for £2.  I’m planning on adding stitches and appliqué to it.  I may even dip dye the bottom.  This A4 print of puff sleeved garments appealed to me. I’ll be adding it to the current display on my studio wall.

That’s it for this week.  There plenty more events to come next week including an immersive art show at Media City in Manchester.  Take care and have a good week.

Thanks for popping by.

Where Women Create

Hello, hello, hello ……
I’ve not been here since October. Look at this I have been featured in an American publication -  Where Women Create

What an honour that was.  The editor spotted my instagram accounts and asked if I would write a piece for their Winter issue.  I couldn’t believe it but thought why not.

So here I am in all my glory. Well my garden heehee.

It was a 16 page feature filled with images of my studio and home and the view from the windows over the Rossendale countryside.

I still can’t get over that I’m in print. I’ve had quite a lot of lovely comments from folk who have read the piece and I’m very grateful for each and every one.

There’s lots more news to come, but I don’t want to take up too much of your time, so I’ll come back next week hopefully.  Wishing everyone at What’s on your workdesk Wednesday a good creative week.  See you soon.

March blogging

Hello and thanks for popping by.  I’ve had a few problems with disappearing blog photos so I’m hoping that this lot stay put.

Above is a screenshot of my Instagram account and a look around my studio, housed in the centre of our 1950’s country cottage.

Im weaning myself into blog writing as I’ve a bigger project coming up and need the practice.

Spring is on its way, the first signs in our garden are the snowdrops and the camellia which is a beautiful bush but the heaviness of the flowers mean it doesn’t last long as they drop off.

This pic made me chuckle.  It’s my 20 year old VW Beetle Frida getting a good wash.  How I love my car, I’ve had it since new and will never part with it.

I’ve done a bit of crafting in the form of an Easter wreath using dried flowers.  There’s been some fiffing and faffing about curating the studio wall.

And we had a meet up with some of the members of The No Rules Textile Society members.  We met up at Jayne Emerson’s home and studio in the beautiful village of Dumbleton, Gloucester.

And of course the wandering welder came along as well.
He loves a good rummage through the fabric stash.

We’ve visited the magnificent newly renovated Rochdale Town Hall.  You may recognise it from the tv series Peaky Blinders.  It is well worth a visit if you are in North West England.  There’s a great pub over the road for lunch as well (The Flying Horse).

As April brings us longer daylight hours it’s good to get outside.  Hope to see toy again soon.

WOYWW - Books and Wooden Houses

Hello desk hoppers and fellow bloggers, the weeks are flying by and I won’t bore you with all the stuff that is still going on with Mum’s house sale and move.

I’ve done a lot of reading

And over the last fortnight I got heavily into Wimbledon. It’s all pure distraction tactics.  I’m afraid to say the last few months has taken its toll on me physically and mentally.

However, last weekend I went on a two day craft workshop at Anne Brooke’s studio in Brighouse and it was so nice to be with likeminded folk and my good friend vintage crockery trader Pat of A Vintage Affair.

Under the watchful eye of our lovely Scottish tutor Ali Ferguson of The Purple Thread Shed we created these wooden tenement buildings. There was lots of prepping, drilling and stitching and embellishing went on.

Pat made a row of shops

Mine were loosely based on the beautiful cottages in the Cumbrian town of Ulverston.

So now we are spending a few days at our little caravan in the Lake District.

Hope everyone is well
Love Lynn

Life goes on …… woyww 679

After three floods and three moves Mum is now in her retirement apartment. She has even had time for cake with the Queen and a Jubilee party in the residents lounge.

Life hasn’t calmed down yet though as we’ve now got her old house to prepare for sale and I’m still ploughing my way through paperwork and hours on the phone trying to get through to services and authorities.  I don’t know how folk can say things are better now.  It’s a shame I’m not getting paid to do this lot as I’d be coining it in.  Oh yes and I’m also still dealing with the flood compensation paperwork.

So still no crafting yet.  However, my sister came home for the weekend and we managed an afternoon treat at a local art gallery.

Update on crafting since I started this post.  My textile group had a little online workshop on the Cyanotype process.

If you don’t know what it is, it’s a dyeing technique using chemicals and the sun.

Looks lovely …… only thing is, it should be blue and not disappear
when rinsed through.

Wouldn’t you know I had been sent the wrong chemical mix.  Poor Kim who
I bought it off was mortified.  Not to worry said I, there’s worse things happen.
So hopefully I’ll post the real thing next week heehee.

Take care and have a good week
Lynn
