And this was Sunday ....... Festering, plumbing and a patchwork wall

So I said to my friend ‘I’m festering on the settee here, I think I’ll get my boots on and go for a stroll’.
Then I thought ‘FESTERING’ that’s a good word.

So I googled it.
I soon shot off the settee when it said decomposing like a dead body.

We had a bit of trouble in the plumbing department.
The wandering welder was worried about his ballcock.
Seems it wouldn’t stop flushing.
He wasn’t amused by my witty quips, the pile of stuff he had to move
and having to pull the fitted unit apart.

The weather was to cold for me to stay out long,  even with my mouth
covered my teeth are to sensitive.  A trip to the dentist last was reassuring
that there is nothing amiss and to keep rubbing them with sensitive toothpaste.

Decided to crack on with my patchwork wall using vintage
wallpaper samples.

For the folk thinking her hair looks okay, why does she keep banging on about it.
Truth is it’s not been washed since 31st December.
Yesterday’s blog pic is how it will look when I do wash it.
The theory is if I leave it long enough it will refresh itself.

Nearly done.

How we miss going out for Sunday roast dinner.
I’ve never used these Maggi herb coated sheets before.

So here we go.

The verdict.  It was delicious.

And that was Sunday.  We will be watching the Great Pottery Throw Down
and Incredible Journeys with Simon Reeve.

Make it a good week folks whatever way you can.
Love as always

Another day, another book and Worzel Gummidge’s wife.

Saturday morning we woke up to yet another wall of fog and fall of snow.
Philip went to make the first cup of tea of the day while I finished off my book,
Away With The Penguins by Hazel Prior

I’m making a start on the library books I was allocated by the Request & Collect
Service at our local library next. I’ve read a few of Prue Leith’s novels and her memoirs
so I was pleased to find this one in the selection.

When I've finished that I think I’ll give this a go.  Rachel Joyce is an author I came
across in 2020 and liked her style.

Please don’t ask me to do a review of books like in a bookclub because I can’t do it.
It turns me into that mute kid at school who would never put her hand up to answer questions.

Then in my working life I’d be laughing and joking and chatting at work all day but as soon as
we had to go into a staff meeting you couldn’t get a peep out of me.

So no don’t ask me what a books about.  I just read what comes along and then onto the next.

See this, it’s my gorgeous head of hair after I’d been bouffanted after
the last lockdown.  Well let me tell you it’s not like that now.

Last time it was touched was 31st December.
I’ve got the sort of hair that only needs washing once every Preston Guild
and only has a colour three times a year.
It really is my crowning glory.

But look what happens when I’m left to my own devices.
Worzel Gummidge’s wife appears.

So roll on the end of lockdown and the reappearance of my beautiful
friend and hairdresser of some 30 years.  I’ve told her she will never
be able to retire.

If you are still following along with my blog ramblings, which seems to
be daily at the moment, then I thank you. It’s very kind of you.

As always let’s all stay safe as we are moving forward and that’s great.

Moving forward diary....... Books & Vintage wallpaper

I’m going to have to find this pile of library books a place of their own otherwise they’ll get mixed up with the massive collection of books I have strewn all over the house.

These are what I was given when I went to the local library to try out their Request and Collect Service. I’m mightily impressed with how it works. There’s not even a time limit on how long I can keep them.  I was told to bring them back when I’ve finished.

I do miss going to the library I’ve used the same one for over 60  years.  On the plus side I’m going to save myself a fortune on Amazon now.

This lovely ghost painting on wood arrived from Instagram friend Bodkincreates.  She’s ready to take her place next to the Sue Dove canvas I have in my craft room.  Devon artist Hesta painted one of my Mum on holiday in the Lake District a couple of years ago.  I liked it so much I kept it and asked her to do me another to give to Mum.  My niece Sophie is also smitten with Hesta’s paintings and is building up a little collection of her own.

There was another bit of excitement yesterday when Postman Sid delivered
two lots of vintage wallpaper that I found on the internet.

I’m going to mix them in with the ones I’ve already used to make a patchwork wall in the craft room.

The weather was so nice on Friday after days and days of rain, snow, fog and sleet.
I rang Mum and asked her if she wanted to go to our favourite local farm shop.
So basket and mask at the ready off we went, Mum wearing her mask and the car windows open.

Back home and a good hot cuppa was needed.
As bright as the day had been it was chilly.

It’s Saturday morning now as I’m posting this and that means we will
be listening to Sounds of the 60’s with Tony Blackburn on Radio 2.

No plans as yet for the day ahead.  I’ll come back to you on that one.

Do one little thing today that will make you smile.
We are moving forward folk, big thumbs up to us all.

Lockdown Diary .... Step away from the biscuit barrel

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday is our weekly shopping day.
Despite the lashing rain we still went to our local outdoor market.
Chatting with the traders is so nice and the fresh products are the best.

That’s the fridge and pantry filled again.
Shopping is the nice bit it’s washing it all off once we are back home that’s a nuisance.
But I think we’ve developed a good system now between us.
Then there’s always a lovely lunch of fresh sandwiches and cake from the bakery.
Followed by a quiet afternoon reading.

Can you see the silly sayings I’ve doodled on the pantry doors.
I’ll paint them in properly one day.

EAT FRUIT NOT PIES
STEP AWAY FROM THE BISCUIT BARREL

It’s not really a pantry, it’s an upcycled  pine wardrobe.
One day when I either find a proper one that will fit in the gap
or I win the lottery and can afford one of those bespoke ones I’ll change it.

Now if you’re feeling you need a bit of cheering up you
can share these lovely flowers with me before I take them
down the lane to my friend and neighbour who’s been a bit poorly of late.

THURSDAY

We’ve woken up to rain, wind and snow this morning.
That doesn’t bode well for a trip out to the accountants, dropping off a birthday
present at our nephews and collecting a pile of books from the library.

I enrolled in their Request & Collect scheme the other day.
You fill in a form saying what type of books you like and any authors in particular
then the librarian selects up to 12 books for you and you go and collect them.
Sounds good to me.  I’ll report back on that one and the other photos in the collage
at the top of the page.

I’m off to dig out my thermals now.
Stay safe all.
