Fiffing and faffing

Keep calm, don't let the rotten weather get to you

 

or the fact that the lovely ceramic brooch my sister gave me has snapped again and is really not safe to wear

I thought Hmm ! what can I do with it then. 

So going back to my project "This Hour Of Mine" by The Linen Garden

I came up with the idea of making a wallhanging.

 I fiffed and faffed about with a bit of freestyle machine embroidery

added some handstitching and

that's as far as I've got.  You'll just have to wait while next week the end result.

Sack the desk, what's on my wall instead

A big thank you to Annie (Wipso-A Stitch In Time)

and to Jo (Twiglet) for the lovely ATC cards.

I have everyone you have ever sent me on display in my room

I'm sorry I didn't join in last week's desk hopping, I just didn't have the 

heart for it after the horrors of the Manchester bombing.  

I live in the North West and it had a big impact on us all round here.

You may recall that I revamped my craft room wall to take part in 

a project called "This Hour of Mine".  

Since then I had a play day with a bunch of friends and we stitched

one inch squares.  

I've attached mine to some vintage floral playing cards

which are now on the wall next to pictures torn from 

an old book on roses that I found in a charity shop.

My wall keeps evolving and my collection of antique books

on flowers is such a lovely thing to have out on display alongside everything.

So I guess I should change my blog page to What's on your Wall Wednesday haha.

Thanks Julia for keeping us all together for the past eight years.  Long may it continue

Just my imagination

Do you know the song ?  It came on the radio as I started my new project "This Hour Of Mine".  The aim is to create a curated wall, a little exhibition of collected things.  

After a lot of pondering I decided on a garden themed wall.

I shot off to the garden centre with a head full of ideas and came back with two lengths of trellis, a boot full of herbs and a bar of fancy soap for the wandering welder husband.

Next up everything came off the workroom wall, it was quite cathertic really as the pieces on it have been there years. The hammer and nails came out and up went the two trellis pieces.

Spent the rest of the day in heaven fiffing and faffing and these are the results so far.

The trellis is brilliant, you can pin things on it, hang things really easily.  You could even hanging your washing on it haha.

Now lets see if the wandering welder notices.

This hour of mine on my desk

Do you remember this lovely project box arriving last week

from THE LINEN GARDEN 

It was filled with treasures and ideas to give yourself permission

to spend time being creative and has the appropriate name

"This Hour Of Mine"

After fiffing and faffing with the beautiful contents for ages,

all of which had a delightful floral scent of hawthorn and briar which I got 

a bit hooked on, I set to thinking what I could create.

The fabric pieces had bondaweb on the back to make cutting 

out the flower shapes easier, so I set off doing that

Next I did a line of running stitch up the length of a piece of ribbon and 

pulled it into the shape of a flower and adding the cut out shapes

and bits of lace

I ironed pieces of the bondaweb backed fabrics to this 

little clipboard and built up a collage of ribbons and laces on top

I ironed some of the cut out flowers to a bottle vase, stuck it onto the board

and added the little embroidery that a friend sent me

And here it is up on the wall in my workspace
