LETS GO ROUND AGAIN …….. woyww

Sorry not a desk in sight, I’m to busy arranging the stunning flowers
I received from Gemma and her team at Barnados Vintage shop in Cheadle.

On Sunday we dropped off a car full of our vintage clobber for
them to sell.

They wasted no time in getting them steamed and on the
shop floor.

Some have been donated because they no longer fit and some
because my style has changed. I’ve still the shoes, bags, knitwear
and coats to go through.

The dapper chap is also working his way
through his stash of clobber.

In the meantime I’m off to practice walking up and down
stairs, without tripping up, in the preloved boho festival skirt
that I picked up at The Vintage Emporium on Sunday.

If I keep ending up in a tangle it’ll be making its way to you Vix.

We love the fact that our collection of vintage clothes find
new homes and don’t end up in landfill.

We bought them ourselves from vintage fairs, trader friends and
charity shops and here they are going round again.

I’ll be back at my desk properly next week, promise.

A full on weekend …..

Saturday was full on clearing out the wardrobes of all clobber that either didn’t fit
or hadn’t been worn for a couple of years.

As a reward for our efforts we had tea in the pub with our best friend Sue before the
long awaited gig at Bury Met of one of our favourite bands.

It was fantastically organised and we felt at ease and comfortable throughout.
The show was streamed live around the world and in the theatre we were seated
at tables with drinks brought to us.  There were a few tiered seats but in total I
counted only 60 people.  Normally I think it holds over 300.  We did wonder
how they could make it pay.  Maybe the artists are just glad to be working again
and do it at a reduced rate.

The show was brilliant and we left on a high.

It was nice to come out and it still be warm and light outside.

We bumped into a workmate who I hadn’t seen for some
20 years. It was good to see you Michelle and nice to hear
you read my blog. Thank you.  I’ll dig out some photos of us.

Here’s the wandering welders other wife Sue, our friend of
almost 40 years.  It’s great to restart our Three Amigos trips
out again.

We had an early start on Sunday as we had to get the car loaded
up with all our destash clobber to donate to Barnados Vintage
Charity Shop in Cheadle.

The manager, Gemma, said she would open the shop specially
for us.  Honestly, it would be a much better world if there were more folk
like Gemma around. She is so passionate and dedicated to her work.
What an asset she is to the charity,

Sometimes you’ve just got to let things go.
Then again I have had some outfits for years and all preloved,
bought from charity shops, vintage traders or gifted to me.

It’s the best sort of recycling.  I donate to the vintage charity shop.
They get an extra 25p from the government for every pound raised.
Vintage traders among other folk will buy the clothes, then they will sell
them on.  Round and round it goes.  Happy days.

After dropping everything off we headed over to see goddaughter
Amy and boyfriend Dylan in their new home in Wilmslow, then
we all drove over to Pear Mill Vintage Emporium in Stockport.

There’s over 70 traders in the mill and it was all very organised
with folk adhering to the one way system.  It was nice to be back.

There was even time for coffee and cake in the Vintage Tearoom,
although we did notice that all the usual board games were missing.
I was hoping to give Philip a whopping at domino’s.  Last time
we were there he thrashed me at the game after saying he’d never
played before.

So that was the weekend.
As much as I enjoy what we do, there’s something to be said
for the quieter days of lockdown.

Toe tapping only please

See this face, it’s not smiling that’s because it missed booking tickets for
an online talk coming from National Trust property, Gawthorpe Hall
at Padiham, near Burnley, Lancashire which is not far from us.

I thought this’ll be interesting and a change from the football.

They have a rare collection of shoes from the 18th to the 20th century and
are looking at the techniques for decorating them, what they would have
been worn with and how changing fashions affected footwear of each period.

Oh well not to worry.  I can always sit and admire my own
collection of boots and shoes.

and count how many pairs and colours of jelly shoes I’ve got

Have you ever thought about the origin of jelly shoes.  It’s not what you’d think.
Here’s a link to Wikipedia all about them.

That got me thinking about the origin of Mary Jane shoes.
The comfiest shoes ever.

I’ll be wearing something a bit more stylish on Saturday night.
We’ve got a date with one of our favourite bands.
There’ll be no dancing, just lots of toe tapping.

At least we will be able to wiggle in our seats and sing along.
Well I hope we can sing along, unless it’s like church where you’re
not allowed.  Confused ?  so am I.

2017 with My Darling Clementine lead singers.

Here’s a you tube video of them.
(I think you’ve listened along before Annie)

Have a good weekend everyone.
Keep smiling but no singing in the streets please
unless you’re a rowdy football fan of course.

Workdesk Wednesday meet up …….

Good morning desk hoppers
This week I’ve found a use for an old sales ledger I’ve had for
some time.  I’m using it to keep fabric samples in, pieces of collage
and I’m going to use it as a sketchbook as well.

It dates back to 1930 and is from the estate of the late
Mrs Sarah Wood.  It appears that she owned several properties
around the Yorkshire area.  The book is a record of the rental income
and expenses of her company.

Rents ranged from £9.15 shillings a month to £21.5 shillings & one penny.

During Monday’s textile society zoom meeting we talked about
creating layouts with a grid.  I’ve used the app PhotoGrid.

Crikey, I went down a right rabbit hole with that one and
couldn’t stop once I got started.

This one was made with an image of some sari silk ribbons
I have in a basket.

I’ve used one image 12 times, turning it round and round
and using different filters.

On Monday night I did an online zoom sketch class.
We packed such a lot into an hour and at the end of it,
it was amazing to see what we had achieved through a series
of exercises that lasted anything from 30 seconds to eight minutes.

I was pretty chuffed with myself and have signed up for another.
Isn’t zoom amazing, I’m getting the hang of it now.

Then off I went down the rabbit hole again with digital pattern
repeats, this time starting with the flower in this drawing.

Come and drag me out of the hole before next Wednesday
won’t you please.

Thanks for popping by

Don’t mention it ……

Saturday rolled in with sunshine and a visit from goddaughter Olivia,
her boyfriend George and her mum. We sat in the garden, chatted, drank tea and
had a good catch up. It was great to hear that Olivia starts her first job after graduating.
She will be working in a lab for a large construction organisation, testing soil and water to
examine if sites are fit for building on. It’s not something I’ve ever thought about,
but I guess it makes sense. You can’t just start whopping housing estates, office
blocks and industrial units up willy nilly can you.

Late afternoon my sister arrived for an overnight sleepover after bringing
Mum home from a four week stay in Oxford with her. It’s only the
second time I’ve seen Jill since October.

Sunday morning, along with friend Jane we headed down to Healey Dell
Tearooms for breakfast.  I had a tasty vegetarian full English.  It’s
not something I’d normally do or have, but I could get used to it.
We had such a nice relaxed catch up.

As we left folk were turning up for a Fathers Day barbecue.

Once Jill had headed off back to Oxford, I took Mum to buy
a new vacuum cleaner then headed back home to feed and water
the hanging baskets and do a bit of weeding.

The baskets are from Simon aka The Plant Dude on Bacup Market.
They are so pretty and coming into their best now.

Let’s not talk about the garden parasol that had to go back after we waited in
three days on a run. Or the ongoing saga of the new electric meter we’ve been
waiting for since November. And don’t mention the crackling telephone line, let
alone the hole in the lane that gets bigger by the day.

This cheeky chap is also doing his best to wind us up by eating
all the bird food.

The pussy willow we rescued is thriving and will be moved into a
larger pot soon and I’m so pleased with the new hydrangea.

Monday and it’s cold enough for layering up today’s outfit and for me
to put my thick tights back on.

This morning I’ve had a zoom meeting with the textile group ladies.
We chuckled, chatted, exchanged ideas and been given a project for
August if we want to do it.

I found a use for this Sales Ledger, dated 1930. I’m filling it
with fabric and paper samples I’ve worked on, along with sketches
and bits and pieces that take my fancy.

Tonight I’m taking part in a zoom drawing class with London
based Molly Martin who I did the Repair Workshop with last week.

I’ll have to admit to liking the new interests and online events
that the forced lockdown of 2020/1 has brought me.

I’ve always been an advocate for never being to old to learn
new things.  So as I approach getting my pension in August,
I say bring it on.  Who knows what I’ll get upto next.

See you Wednesday
Hope you’ll bring the sunshine with you and thank you for popping by.
