What’s on your Workdesk Wednesday - A load of stripes

MONDAY

Pilates practice done, washing sorted, evening meal sorted.
No I haven’t got a bad back. I’m showing you my nearly
20 year old sports outfit with its go faster stripes.

The rain howled down outside while I sat snuggled up, lamps on,
heating on, watching the feel good film - Mrs Caldicotts Cabbage War
while doing my stitching.

Loved it.

The online NO RULES PATCHWORK course continues and
one of the modules involved a lesson in making fabric strip samples.

I think I could get obsessed with this experimentation.

TUESDAY

Next up, a pile of scraps

Laid out in strips, then stitched onto a backing fabric.

Now will I cut it or won’t I.

I did

Building up lots of sample pieces now to either sit and admire
or stitch onto garments or bags.

They may even end up in a book or a box or as hangings
or framed as little textile art pieces.

Some hand stitching and embellishing to add yet.

Wednesday now and it’s a wet and windy day for our trip
out for the weekly local market shopping.

Hope all the desk hopping ladies are well
and thanks for stopping by.

When is a curtain not a curtain. When it’s a skirt

On Friday I decided to move onto the next lesson of the
Online Course I’m doing on No Rules Patchwork.

The task was to make your own striped fabrics.
I’ve used some fabric pieces I had left from making a pair of patchwork
curtains for the utility room ages ago.

Have confidence I told myself and with that I set about applying strips
using different stitches and also cutting up the middle of some strips.

All went brilliantly until the thingymebob broke on my sewing machine.
Not having a clue what it was called I trawled the internet for a photo of
something similar.  Success, I found one for £8.95 incl.pp.

THE BACK

Another lesson I had was learning how to do a film reel on Instagram.
Who says you can’t teach an old dog dog new tricks.

Hope this works

SATURDAY

After breakfast and listening to Tony Blackburn’s Sound Of The Sixties
on Radio 2 we set off over the border into Yorkshire.

We had run out of the savoury tarts that Sharon makes and sells on
Todmorden market.  The last time we were there was 10th December.

I did have a bit of a panic when a police car appeared in front of us as
we pulled up on the car park.  Oh eck, I thought should we be here or not.

It was nice to do something we would do in normal times.  The difference
being we couldn’t have lunch anywhere or go in any charity shops,
and I couldn’t drop Philip off at the pub to have a couple of pints with his mate.

Once back home I set to picking out some fabrics for my next
textile sample.

This fabric was once a pair of curtains I bought in a charity shop.
It’s previously been chopped up and used as part of my patchwork curtains in
the utility room and also made into a skirt by friend Val.  There’s
still lots left for me to cut up and use for my course work.

Hope you’re having a nice weekend and hope
you’re a step nearer getting your vaccine jab if you’ve not
already had it.

Melon’s, books and a new frock

Wednesday
Hump day

Is there such a thing as midweek anymore.
For us Wednesday are now the day we do our weekly
shop at the local market.

Who knew you could get so excited about buying fruit and vegetables.

So after a shower, my daily Pilates practice and breakfast of porridge
and berries it was time to get ourselves ready for the off.

There’s always lots of chat and laughter with the market traders
and the very best in produce.  Meats locally sourced and the finest
fish from Scotland.

There’s something so appealing about seeing all the lovely colours
in the sink ready for washing off before being stored away.
I love to capture the moment.

What I don’t like is the stink of the steriliser stuff we use to sanitise
the rest of the shopping.  I have a really strong sense of smell and I can smell
it on my hands for hours after.  I think I’m going to have to wear a mask
and gloves or let the wandering welder sort it all.

THURSDAY

World Book Day and I’m channeling my Mary Berry look.
Or maybe The Thoughtful Dresser. A Linda Grant book.

Thinking about my books I spent a happy hour looking at all
the special ones I have.  I keep them in bags that I’ve made
from my stash of fabric.

I was saving this new dress from Ghost for our first proper outing
at the end of
lockdown but it kept jumping off the rail at me, saying ‘Wear me, Wear me’.

It’s a lovely fit and so that I wouldn’t freeze to death I’ve layered
it up with opaque tights, my Fly London boots,  a massively frothy petticoat
and a cashmere jumper I’ve had for at least 15 years.

I’m linking up with
where there is always a giggle or two to be had.

Here’s a couple of the cartoons my 88 year old Mum has posted on
her  Facebook page this week.

Have a good weekend
Spring is upon us
Keep smiling
