What’s on your Workdesk Wednesday - A load of stripes

MONDAY

Pilates practice done, washing sorted, evening meal sorted.
No I haven’t got a bad back. I’m showing you my nearly
20 year old sports outfit with its go faster stripes.

The rain howled down outside while I sat snuggled up, lamps on,
heating on, watching the feel good film - Mrs Caldicotts Cabbage War
while doing my stitching.

Loved it.

The online NO RULES PATCHWORK course continues and
one of the modules involved a lesson in making fabric strip samples.

I think I could get obsessed with this experimentation.

TUESDAY

Next up, a pile of scraps

Laid out in strips, then stitched onto a backing fabric.

Now will I cut it or won’t I.

I did

Building up lots of sample pieces now to either sit and admire
or stitch onto garments or bags.

They may even end up in a book or a box or as hangings
or framed as little textile art pieces.

Some hand stitching and embellishing to add yet.

Wednesday now and it’s a wet and windy day for our trip
out for the weekly local market shopping.

Hope all the desk hopping ladies are well
and thanks for stopping by.

  1. I am really enjoying your stitching experiments. And now I have to explore my friend Google to see the origin of "go faster" stripes! I've heard that before, about stripes on cars, but never knew what the origin was. After 25+ years in the UK there is still a lot to discover about our shared, but different, language!

    Have a great desk hop!

  3. Love all the strip sewing, especially the lace.
Thank you so much for your comment re the vaccination, may I ask which one you had? Just read my husbands leaflet for the AstraZeneca one and the side effects of nausea/vomiting are listed as Very Common/Common respectively so I'm in tears about booking mine now. BJ#16

  4. Well done on being brave enough to cut, it was the right thing to do! I am really enjoying seeing these fabric pieces and think they are most definitely worthy of being on the wall in a gallery!

  8. Do they work? The 'go-faster' stripes? If so I might need some!! There's something so wonderful about random strips of stitched pieces all together like that but I can't find the right word of phrase to describe it. Its a sort of comforting word... something to ponder! As always, stay safe and keep smiling, Lisa-Jane #8

    1. I know what you mean Lisa. I might use the word ‘meditative’ or ‘mindfullness’. What do you think.
As for the go faster stripes, you want to see the speed I reach when I know there’s cake involved heehee x

  10. make me the pic of you threatening to cut that strip sample actually made me lean away in horror! And then you went and did it and it looks great! Gosh, just as well a no rules workshop exists, or you’d be forever off piste and trying to reign yourself in! a and twenty odd years in the same size exercise clothes...bloody impressive missus.

  14. Your stitching projects are really a joy to see! I really like everything you do!! Especially since I don't stitch, so I just love seeing what others do! So, so cute! And like you said, you can turn that one project into so many others! What a treat! Blessings for the rest of your week! Felicia #31

I wish I never showed her the picture now!
Nowt wrong with vintage sports wear, I exercise In it, forget named rubbish, cheap and old all the way!!! its been so windy here we wonder if there will be any Sakura left when we go to Kyoto next week!!

  19. Loving your stitching pieces. They would make nice book covers. I was thinking of using fabric for a book cover and you have given me a good idea, so thank you. Have a great week Angela #21

  20. Another thing I see when I look at them is... cut a bit neater and perhaps stitched around the edge by hand to finish ... then used for the outer part of a little needle holder....yes...I have some of the white fabric ones leftover from one of Karen's courses...I could even make me one out of some of that..off to have a look. Now... where did I put that stuff??...

  21. Hi Lynn, sorry I'm late this week been sorting stuff out for my mum coming home. Well done for still fitting into the 20 year old tracksuit Lol! I wonder if the manufacturers thought the stripes would make us go faster too.....if so it didn't work with me but I keep trying. Happy creative, belated WOYWW, Angela x19x

  24. I think I am almost enjoying this course as much as you are. It is quite fascinating to see each time what you have done and read about your thoughts. I can see that is can become quite obsessive but as long as you are enjoying it what does it matter.
    Hugs, Neet xx
