Lockdown Diary - the days fly by

Tuesday is the day for compiling menus for the week

then writing the shopping list for our regular Wednesday

trip to our local market at Bacup.

It was bitter cold so the snow boots I’ve had for years came out,

I layered up with a full length vintage petticoat and thick tights.

My sweater came from our lovely friend Vix and my skirt is from

an Instagram chum.

Taking a leaf out of Vix book (wear, sleep, repeat) the next day I wore the 

same skirt and boots, changing the jumper for a grey Jaeger cashmere one

bought in a sale over 12 years ago. My mustard tights were exchanged for scarlet ones.

Back home from shopping, the kettle went on and a cardigan,

we were frozen.

After sorting, washing and putting everything away I caught

up with blog land and the ladies over on What’s On your Workdesk Wednesday.

What a coincidence that I was wearing the sweater from Vix

at the same time she was wearing the coat we gave her some years

ago that had once belonged to Philip’s mum.

VINTAGE VIXON BLOG

Took Mum a bit of shopping today (Thursday).

We then masked up, called for a bag of chips and sat

in the car scoffing them while looking over the reservoir

up the road from us.  We finished it off with a takeaway

hot chocolate before scuttling back off home like two

naughty school girls.

Talking of school girls.  I’ve got a lovely blog post ready 

for Friday Smiles with Annie tomorrow.  I hope you’ll come back

to see what has made me a very proud auntie and is guaranteed to

lighten your heart.

What’s on your workdesk Wednesday - Buttons, a cat & some Doodly birds

How many UK readers remember that bit of daftness on the telly.

Another Wednesday has rolled around with a busy day visiting crafters

Textile/Mixed artist and friend Anne Brookes is running a 52 week tag challenge.

This weeks theme is BUTTONS and here’s my interpretation of it.

I’m not playing every week, I’m not that disciplined.

I had a lovely surprise when my goddaughter Amy sent me a photo of her

sat doing an embroidery piece with the cat she is fostering sat on her knee.

I asked if I could include her piece in my blog to show everyone.

Ta da here she is and her finished embroidery.

Is anyone watching the new interior design show on BBC2.

One of the designers makes a remark this week about there being

nothing worse than sitting in a meeting staring at bland walls.

It took me back to 2012 when I redesigned the headteacher’s

office/meeting room in a primary school where my niece was the deputy.

It went from dull plain walls to this.

It was loved by teachers, children and parents.

Some of you may remember me doing it.

Hard to believe but when the head retired and my niece went on to

become headteacher of her own school, the people who took over

painted over everything in magnolia.  I’d love to go back and see it.

Lockdown Tuesday

TUESDAY 

Woke upto a very cold snowy morning, with more to come.  After a breakfast of porridge and berries I put together my blog post for tomorrow’s get together at What’s On Your Workdesk.

At 12.30pm it was time for my zoom Pilates class with lovely Tracy at Bradley Physio.  It’s when I actually see friends for real that I get upset.  I miss the chat and hugs.  I know I’m not on my own in my feelings.

Anyway enough of that.  I’ve ordered this lampshade from  NIPPER & MOO to replace the ill fitting one on the standard lamp I rescued from Auntie Gladys house before it was emptied.

The standard lamp was bought from a secondhand  shop over 40 years ago by me, it was in our house for years, then went to Philip’s mum’s.  When she died it came back to us, then it went to auntie Gladys’s and now it’s back with us.  So I think it deserves a new shade don’t you.

After an afternoon of cleaning out drawers and cupboards and writing my shopping list for our weekly market shopping trip, we sat down to tea on a tray in front of the telly.  Salmon & asparagus tarts from Todmorden market, with  avocado & mixed salad.  

I’m suffering the joys of having to watch football. With a bit of luck the wandering welder will nod off and I’ll be able to flick over and watch the Interior Design programme.

A quiet weekend in the Holland household.

As the little stitch picture says -

‘The slower we go the more we see’

Doesn’t it sum up and apply to so much of our lives right now.

SATURDAY 

It’s snowing, it’s cold and windy and lucky me I’ve got

nowhere I need to be, so it’s an afternoon of reading, journal

writing, puzzles and maybe I’ll seek out THE SERPENT series

on BBC1 as I haven’t seen it yet.


Salmon with Italian Herbs, new potatoes and vegetables for tea,

but first I’ll just sort the washing and put the clean bedding on

before I forget.  

The wandering welder is faffing about in his man shed.

He’ll need a hot cuppa when he comes back in.

Update

We watched the first episode of The Serpent.

Crikey we were both mesmerised.  It’s not an easy watch

and you can’t mess about doing something else at the same time

you’ve got to watch it properly or you’ll get confused.

Jenna Coleman plays a great part, totally different to how

I’ve seen her before and he is pure evil.

Another update - we stayed up until 2.00am and are upto episode 5

The only other thing we’ve binge watched was The Queens Gambit.

SUNDAY

No idea which way the days going yet, except to say it’s

vegetable curry & noodles for tea.

Have a good Sunday, even if you’ve no plans like me.

I’ve started reading Sara Cox book about her early years.

If like me you read in bed at night, you’ll find yourselves

chuckling out loud so give your other half fair warning.

My 88 year old Mum has been at it on Facebook again and somehow

managed to find and post these lovely comforting posters.

At the other end of the age scale our young nephew showed us the

fun he’s having with the new puppies.  He’s very good at taking

care of them while they get big enough to go to their forever homes

later this month.

While I waited for the wandering welder to return from his

Covid vaccination I did the weekly debugging of facemasks.

Pour boiling water over non bio washing liquid/powder and give

them a bashing with the potato masher before leaving them

to soak for a bit. Rinse and leave to dry.

Here’s my lovely jug of tulips to remind you that spring

is on its way.
