What’s on your workdesk Wednesday - Buttons, a cat & some Doodly birds

Good morning campers hi-di-hi
How many UK readers remember that bit of daftness on the telly.

Another Wednesday has rolled around with a busy day visiting crafters
desk worldwide thanks to the weekly link up at
WHATS ON YOUR WORKDESK WEDNESDAY

Textile/Mixed artist and friend Anne Brookes is running a 52 week tag challenge.

This weeks theme is BUTTONS and here’s my interpretation of it.
I’m not playing every week, I’m not that disciplined.

I had a lovely surprise when my goddaughter Amy sent me a photo of her
sat doing an embroidery piece with the cat she is fostering sat on her knee.

I asked if I could include her piece in my blog to show everyone.
Ta da here she is and her finished embroidery.

Is anyone watching the new interior design show on BBC2.
One of the designers makes a remark this week about there being
nothing worse than sitting in a meeting staring at bland walls.

It took me back to 2012 when I redesigned the headteacher’s
office/meeting room in a primary school where my niece was the deputy.

It went from dull plain walls to this.
It was loved by teachers, children and parents.
Some of you may remember me doing it.

Hard to believe but when the head retired and my niece went on to
become headteacher of her own school, the people who took over
painted over everything in magnolia.  I’d love to go back and see it.

There’s more pics here and the comments you left at the time.

Well that’s me for this week.

I’m sending my thoughts and prayers out to Shaz and hubby.
We are all there with you both.

Lynn

  1. Love the room, sad that Magnolia obliterated it. No accounting for taste, right? I love your button tag and your niece looks very proud of her wonderful needlework. And who does'nt love a sweet kitty

  3. I painted cartoon pictures of people in various occupations on my walls at school when I was Head of Careers (in the library). I never got photographs of them and now the place has been demolished. So I would say don't go back if they have painted over your work. Love how you did it and love the work your niece did.
    Great tag also.

  4. I haven’t seen a Doodly bird for a while! Not surprised the room revamp was a hit, how cheering it looked. Covering it all with magnolia.....technically not a crime, but really?!!! Your Amy is a beautiful child isn’t she, and she has some skill with a needle, talk about perfect embroidery. Her mother knew what she was doing when she gifted you to Amy as a godmother.

  5. I remember you doing that room!! At least you know it gave joy to the original head for quite a while xx. How lovely is your goddaughter Amy and her beautiful work? Wonderful to know that you’ve inspired her to create, she’s got the knack!

  6. Oh how awesome is that embroidery?! It looks so neat too. I love the tag - full of textured yumminess. As for the office repaint? Well some people are just vanilla. Definitely hugs all around today, Lisa-Jane #10

  10. Beautiful little tag and it looks so stylish against your beautiful shelving - I spy a William Morris storage box - just added a couple to our computer room to pretty it up - I love them! Your God daughters embroidery is so sweet, such neat work too. I seem to recall the office make over - what a shame to paint over it - I wonder how many coats of Magnolia it took!
Hope you have a good week, stay safe and well,

  11. From what I read and what younger friends tell me, it seems that painting over your beautiful work in magnolia is a very good metaphor for what has happened to education in the UK over the past few years! As Neet says above, it would not be a good idea to re-visit - and thank goodness your niece was not around to see it.

Lovely work from Amy. What a sweet young lady to be fostering cats, it must be so difficult when it is time for them to go.

  12. Lynn, I love your button tag! I went and watched her bevy of button video and she had a cute one as well! I don't think I could be disciplined enough to do it every week. I used to do a tag a week challenge, several years ago, but there are just too many projects that I want to do all the time and I'm too all over the place! LOL Love your goddaughter's stitching and that you featured her! How special! What a shame that your lovely crafting got painted over, but at least it was enjoyed by so many for quite a while! Stay safe and healthy! Blessings, Felicia #30

  13. Hi Lynn, I like your interpretation of the button challenge this week. I've been following Anne's tag videos and they are lovely. As is your goddaughter's embroidery. It's wonderful how cats love to coorie up - they offer so much comfort by just being close. I so remember you decorating that room so beautifully. Whoever covered it in Magnolia lacks soul. Have a good week. Elizabeth x #31

  14. That was a mean spirit painting over those lovely walls. Your Amy is very pretty, and her hair is gorgeous. Her embroidery is very good.

  17. Hi Lynn, we're still watching Hi Di Hi! we love it. Can't believe they painted over something so lovely, some people have such boring taste Lol! We've been for the vaccination today and it went well, they were very organised and no queues so very relaxed too. Have a lovely creative woyww, Angela x18x

  18. Magnolia is a crime against colour! Whoever invented it needs to be hung! My mum has her house that color well she does live in exclusive part of er a so called village haha, it’s called wynyard its were doctors and posh people live.
She says my home is a crime against mess and colour! And why I bought an old ramen shop and turned it into a home is beyond her! She refuses to say there! Love doodly bird . Willow draws birds she’s good at them for 4. Love and hugs to your friends.

  19. Isn't Amy beautiful and even more so for fostering cats! The little one looks so content snuggling on her lap. I absolutely love her embroidery, I'd almost be tempted to have a go at it myself if I could create something that cool.
    Your gift tag is lovely.
How brilliant that you transformed the school meeting room with colour and doodly birds, what a welcoming space that must have been and what soulless idiots to change it to magnolia. xxx

  20. The embroidery, photo and kitty are all gorgeous. The person who paints over a bright cheery uplifting room in Magnolia deserves to work in bland. Have a lovely week.

  22. you must have disappointed that they painted over your revamped room. Love the bird canvases. Great photographs of your god daughter and embroidery. I remember Hi De Hi with some fondness. Silly, but watchable, unlike a lot of TV sitcom today. Happy WOYWW Angela #12

  23. Amy's embroidery is gorgeous, and that cat she is fostering could be Phoebe reincarnated! Your button tag is gorgeous too, and I'm absolutely loving that revamped teacher's room. I can't believe they repainted it in boring old magnolia! xxx

  24. Great picture of your goddaughter, Lynn, and her cat, and her beautiful embroidery. You certainly are a lady of many parts - love your mood board and the resulting room. Shame they painted it over. When I did my biggest mural in our old house (a mountain lake scene viewed through Gothic arches - https://www.flickr.com/photos/12780076@N05/albums/72157714848030066 where you can also see some other murals I did) I had a recurring nightmare that our successors would buy an oil drum sized tin of magnolia and paint the whole lot out! I understand that the subsequent occupants of the house loved it and it is still there. I hope so!

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  26. What a shame they covered that with magnolia!
Love your tag and your goddaughter's embroidery!
    Happy WOYWW!
    Stay safe and keep well!
Update on here in Victoria – we are in a snap lockdown again – hopefully only for a few days – but 5k limit, no visitors or gatherings, only leave the house for the 4 special reasons, only essential shops open…
And the rainbow lorikeets are eating our peaches!
