Lockdown Diary - the slower we go the more we see

A quiet weekend in the Holland household.
As the little stitch picture says -

‘The slower we go the more we see’

Doesn’t it sum up and apply to so much of our lives right now.

SATURDAY

It’s snowing, it’s cold and windy and lucky me I’ve got
nowhere I need to be, so it’s an afternoon of reading, journal
writing, puzzles and maybe I’ll seek out THE SERPENT series
on BBC1 as I haven’t seen it yet.

Salmon with Italian Herbs, new potatoes and vegetables for tea,
but first I’ll just sort the washing and put the clean bedding on
before I forget.

The wandering welder is faffing about in his man shed.
He’ll need a hot cuppa when he comes back in.

Update

We watched the first episode of The Serpent.
Crikey we were both mesmerised.  It’s not an easy watch
and you can’t mess about doing something else at the same time
you’ve got to watch it properly or you’ll get confused.
Jenna Coleman plays a great part, totally different to how
I’ve seen her before and he is pure evil.

Another update - we stayed up until 2.00am and are upto episode 5
The only other thing we’ve binge watched was The Queens Gambit.

SUNDAY
No idea which way the days going yet, except to say it’s
vegetable curry & noodles for tea.

Have a good Sunday, even if you’ve no plans like me.

  1. I must admit that term is so true, even the kids have seemed to slow down. They even sat quiet together and watched a movie together for 2 hours, only moving for a drink. They looked so snuggly and cosy.
Whilst I got on with work. And then the dreaded bedstrip 4 beds. But hey it has to be done. Just baked some cookies and they have noticed the smell. You know what that means!

    1. I bet it was lovely to see them snuggled up.
Hope the cookies were good. You made me want some now haha xx

  2. You're not wrong there, Mrs. I was taking my time getting dressed this morning and saw a kestrel land in the magnolia tree.
Isn't The Serpent compelling? All the more awful for being a true story.
We've been out for our walk and it is so cold out there. I'm already dreading having to walk down the Hill of Doom to get my specs in the morning.
We've got curry for tea, too! xxx

    1. We had an owl outside this morning and then I sat and watched the snow flakes swirling round. I had my Pilates cd on and the music fitted in beautifully xxx

  3. Hello Lynn,

There are few positive outcomes from the current pandemic but one of them must surely be that we all have much more time to just stand and stare and BE.

For several years, we volunteered as tour guides at a local art museum. It was interesting to note that those visitors who came and looked without a guide lasted only for short periods in the gallery. However, those who signed up for a 'highlights tour' not only lasted far longer but interacted with the artworks and often stayed to look at other works not included in the tour. By slowing down, visitors were encouraged to really look.

So many tiny details pass us by in the rush of everyday life. Perhaps we are all learning how to be more mindful and live life in the slow lane.

    1. Oh I love visiting museums and art galleries and always hire the headsets if there isn’t a tour guide.
I’m definitely more mindful. Even the chatter in my head has slowed down and become more positive xx

  4. ‘The slower we go the more we see’ is actually spot on. It applies to so many things, but a slower pace of life does have its advantages. It'll be a challenge for me to keep a balance for me when life returns to some kind of normal in the - hopefully near - future. xxx

    1. A day at a time Ann is all we can do. I don’t look any further than that otherwise I’d be off my head.
Staying in the moment serves me best xxx

  5. Bloomin'love your skirt! I love the figures too. Are they wooden or papier mache? Doris has been producing some lovely things lately. The Serpent was excellent. How evil was he? Those poor kids who didn't make it home. x

    1. They are wooden and when you wind the little handle on the side their hearts move back and forth.
I gave it Philip as a present a few years ago.
Omg we were absolutely hooked on The Serpent and stayed up late binge watching it. Xx
