GAZEBO'S AND OLD FRIENDS

It rained again for the monthly PROM ART at Grange Over Sands, but the big difference this month you will notice is that I had this lovely gazebo to keep all the Doodly Birds dry.  I had lots of comments on how pretty, quirky, elegant it all looked and you could hear people chirping "DOODLY BIRDS" as they walked along.

Despite the rain a lot of people turned out to see this monthly event and we had a great day.

The promenade gardens are beautiful and I was quite near the cafe which has some lovely food and ice cream.   It was nice to hear the musicians playing throughout the day at one end of the prom.
An added surprise was meeting a childhood friend Tom Brophy and his wife Susan.  We had a real good chew over old times and it was lovely to see Tom again after some 30+ years.
Susan has a stall selling beautifully made jewellery.  Have a look at her Facebook page Yan-Tan-Tethera-Handmade-Gemstone-Jewellery

Peace and quiet returned by 5.30pm and the husband, me and Frida my VW beetle made our way to the pub for a well deserved Sunday Roast.

Next Prom Art will be Sunday 26th August 9.30am-4.30pm

What an adventure we had ......

www.promart.info
Well first it was on then it was off until in the end at 6.30am on Sunday morning the weather forecast said sunshine in Cumbria.   We got everything into the car and arrived in Grange Over Sands at 8.45am.  We met the imfamous Mr Robert Leach the organiser (the man in the yellow cap) and he showed us our spot on the Promenade (Stall 41).  Stall numbers are allocated by counting the railings along the prom. Its nice because we could park Frida my VW Beetle opposite where we set up.  Just as well considering what happened next.  I had just got set up and it started raining, so everything went back in the car except the table.
One hour later we had another attempt only for the exact same thing to happen.  So everything went back into the car again including the table, once we had dried it off.   The rainclouds were still hovering and my Doodly Birds were beginning to look like damp squids.
Our friends Jacqui, John and Ruby the dog (gorgeous) turned up and it was decided we would walk the length of the prom and have a look at the traders with gazebo's, with a view to finding one suitable for me.
Here are some of the lovely people I met and chatted to.
www.cushyheaven.co.uk    Email price_alex@hotmail.com
David Henry Webb of Shoreline Art in Barrow, Tel. 01229 26570  made the quirky clocks.
As we walked back along the Prom the sun started to creep out and I was all for having another go. Loud groans were to be heard but we did it. My display is nothing like what it was supposed to be, but the thought of setting my card stand and display unit up again was to much even for me.
The coast line around Cumbria and Morecambe Bay is very strange you can see there are sheep grazing behind us.
I then had another visitor, my friend Gill from Park Farm at Ramsbottom www.parkfarmramsbottom.
Gill commissioned a canvas midi bag with these two Doodly Birds on.
Then I spent my profits on this lampshade from Clare Dent of Lampshade Designs.
Tel. 01229 583244 or email claredent12@hotmail.co.uk
Clare will make any shape lampshade for you in your own fabric choice or better still go on one of her workshops and make your own.

I will be doing it again but I will be taking a gazebo next time.

Looks like we are not going here so we might as well go there ...

Never one to look on the negative side the Doodly Birds decided that, I should go and help out at the Embroiderers Guild Cream Tea as it looks like we are not going to Art On The Prom.
The weather forecast for Sunday predicts wind and possibly rain and the poor things didnt want their feathers getting ruffled after they had worked so hard preening themselves for the great day.

St. Andrew's Church, Smith Street, Rochdale was the venue for this lovely event. Lots of people came in after they had watched the Olympic Torch pass through the Town Centre.

If you want to know more about the Embroiderers Guild check out this link
Members displayed their work, there was a sale of fabrics, books, stitch magazines and haberdashery bits and pieces, a raffle where all the prizes were based on the theme of flowers.  Even the table decorations were raffled off at the end.

The Doodly Birds are on full display in their Studio in Whitworth.
Email me if you want to visit, or have a look online in the Doodly Store
they are perching on some new lines now.

More talented people and some funny vegetables

Carrying on from yesterday's posting
I saw Emma of Temporary Measure at last years Holker Garden Festival and was mesmorised with the wonderful range of her work.  Having made the move from Manchester to Keswick she now has a shop at 74 Main Street, Keswick where you can sit and have a nice piece of cake & a cuppa while admiring all the lovely goodies on offer.  If you can't get to the shop have a look at one of the nicest websites i've ever seen.

I will definitely be calling in next time I am up there.

 Back to the Festival -
What a great way to teach children about fruit & vegetables.  There were two mad chaps dressed up like Victorian workmen handing out these funny veggie babies and telling silly stories about how they needed nurturing, feeding and how some of them had dirty bottoms with being in the ground.  The little ones loved it and were allowed to hold them, change nappies and bottle feed as well.  It was hilarious but quite educational.

I have still got some more tales to tell from our trip to Cumbria but they will have to wait as I am getting ready for next Sunday's PROM ART at GRANGE-OVER-SANDS, Cumbria where the DOODLY BIRDS are holding court on stall 54.
