The good bits

Things didn't quite go to plan during our week in the Lake District but before it all went pearshaped we did manage a foraging session around the caravan park using a charity shop find Spotters wild flower guide book from the 80's.

We visited the last of the Art On The Prom events where the wandering welder bought me this gorgeous autumnal coloured handmade shawl.

From a super vintage shop in Cartmel I found this flanelette housecoat.  I'm going to wear it as a light summer coat over my frocks.  It's far to nice to be hidden away in the house.

Another day we treated ourselves to a late lunch in Clare House in Grange Over Sands.  I'm convinced I'm meant to live in a place like this.  It is so calming and elegant.

This house has to be the most photographed house in Cartmel.  The shot is taken from a little bridge in the centre of the village which gets very busy especially on horse race but days. Beautiful place but you wouldn't want to live there.

Lovely presents and bargain outfits

Even though the weather is still iffy and 

I've not put my woolly tights away yet, the frocks 

are getting more flowery by the minute.

This one came from the charity shop, it still had its retail shop

label on. Its beautifully made and has a sticky out petticoat underneath.

Would you believe I paid £4.50 for it.

The brooch came from Ruth Hogan, author of 

 THE KEEPER OF LOST THINGS.  She found it on a car park

and knew I would wear it.

I'm not just saying this but Ruth's first novel has been my best read

so far this year and I'm hoping they make it into a film.

I wore the jacket (£8 and a favourite of mine) 

with this snazzy retro skirt I've had a while, teamed up with my white jumper 

from friend Vix of Kinky Melon Retro Boutique

The scarf is from an Instagram friend who I sent a brooch to and the mermaid 

brooch is by textile artist Lainey Whitworth.  I love the quirkiness of her pieces.

This gorgeous curtain fabric skirt with it handstitching

came from another Instagram friend who was having a destash.

I've added charity shop Laura Ashley velvet jacket, old Boden lace top,

Clarks brogues and some very loud coloured tights

My lovely friend Tracy who lives between the UK and Ghana

brought me this gorgeous basket on her recent trip home.

This is smaller than my other one which is on the floor next to my seat in the 

living room and has books, knitting, magazines and a few toffee wrappers in it.

Internet friends are the best

and I have some lovely ones

No he is not yodelling in the mountains of Switzerland or some such place

we were in fact in Keswick in the Lake District.

I'm very proud of him as he looks a million dollars and is 

in fact wearing about £40 worth of clobber.

The jacket and trousers came from Vintage Fairs and 

his shirt, tie, boots and waistcoat came from the charity shops.

Here he is again in the gardens of the Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite

were we stayed for two nights before moving down to Grange Over Sands

to open the caravan for the season.

I can't let you go without seeing this vintage knitted waistcoat that I am 

sharing with the welder.  He found it in a vintage shop but I got first dabs on wearing it.

I picked up this Traidcraft basket for £4, it still had its original price tag of £22

on it.  The skirt was sent to me by an Instagram friend and is made from a curtain.

These two embroidered cushion covers jumped into my basket 

at a whopping price of £2.49 for the two.

A great weekend was had by all and included a comedy play by Sandy Toskvig

"Silver Lining" at The Theatre by the Lake at Keswick.
