More Cumbrian tales

In Coniston every summer a vintage shop is set up in the village hall.  We visited it during the last week and there were plenty of bargains to be had with most things half price.  I can't show you what I bought yet as some are presents.

We were out for the day with lovely Instagram friend Maria aka Rosey Tinted Spectacles from Ulverston.

We visited the wonderful vegetarian restaurant Chesters by the River at Skelwith near Ambleside.  It has a brilliant shop as well full of really attractive looking books and gifts.  Soon filled my basket with goodies.

The good bits

Things didn't quite go to plan during our week in the Lake District but before it all went pearshaped we did manage a foraging session around the caravan park using a charity shop find Spotters wild flower guide book from the 80's.

We visited the last of the Art On The Prom events where the wandering welder bought me this gorgeous autumnal coloured handmade shawl.

From a super vintage shop in Cartmel I found this flanelette housecoat.  I'm going to wear it as a light summer coat over my frocks.  It's far to nice to be hidden away in the house.

Another day we treated ourselves to a late lunch in Clare House in Grange Over Sands.  I'm convinced I'm meant to live in a place like this.  It is so calming and elegant.

This house has to be the most photographed house in Cartmel.  The shot is taken from a little bridge in the centre of the village which gets very busy especially on horse race but days. Beautiful place but you wouldn't want to live there.

That's some of the good bits.  More to follow

Catching up .........

I'm playing catch up here.
Can't believe it was a week ago since we were at the caravan and meeting up with friends in Ulverston.

No I'm not drinking beer, I had picked up Philip's glass by mistake.

Both Maria and I had our Fly London boots on and it looked like they were having a little chat.  As well as having the most fantastic day at Printfest, visiting Maria and Patrick and rounding the day off with a meal in the local Chinese restaurant we managed to fit in some charity shop foraging.

Couldn't believe my luck when I spotted these Edwardian kid leather opera gloves and this french pinafore

Sunday got myself ready for visiting Art On The Prom at Grange Over Sands only to find it had been cancelled due to high winds.  You have to feel for the traders who after all the work they put in for the event don't know until early that morning whether its on or off.  Thats the problem with outdoor events.

Nevertheless it was still nice enough to go down to Grange, which is five minutes away from the caravan.  This cottage on the main street has to be the most photographed house in the town.  If they ever change those blinds I'll be gutted, they are lovely.

Lunch was in the fabulous Yew Tree Barn at Low Newton.
A super place for a mooch round, its full or reclaimed stuff from old houses
and gardens

Monday we drove over to Bardsea to sample Liquorice & blackcurrant ice cream
from Roy's cart.  He is so famous for his homemade ices you have to queue for a
good 30 minutes.  He has 20 varieties.

We moved on from there to Moat Farm where we wanted to see the vintage tearoom
and caravan that you can have afternoon tea in or a little party.
Forgot my phone to take pictures with but I can report it was fabulous and so are
the owners.

Right off to see what else I need to catch up with
Thanks for dropping by if you have.
I've probably missed the party this week.

Centre stage to the welder

Centre stage this weekend had to go to the
wandering welder in his dapper chap mode.

No he is not yodelling in the mountains of Switzerland or some such place
we were in fact in Keswick in the Lake District.

I'm very proud of him as he looks a million dollars and is
in fact wearing about £40 worth of clobber.

The jacket and trousers came from Vintage Fairs and
his shirt, tie, boots and waistcoat came from the charity shops.

Here he is again in the gardens of the Pheasant Inn at Bassenthwaite
were we stayed for two nights before moving down to Grange Over Sands
to open the caravan for the season.

I can't let you go without seeing this vintage knitted waistcoat that I am
sharing with the welder.  He found it in a vintage shop but I got first dabs on wearing it.

I picked up this Traidcraft basket for £4, it still had its original price tag of £22
on it.  The skirt was sent to me by an Instagram friend and is made from a curtain.

These two embroidered cushion covers jumped into my basket
at a whopping price of £2.49 for the two.

A great weekend was had by all and included a comedy play by Sandy Toskvig
"Silver Lining" at The Theatre by the Lake at Keswick.
Afternoon tea at The Pheasant Inn where we stayed in Bassenthwaite
Then finished off with a lazy day in the sunshine sat outside our caravan.
