Women who bring art into my life

While beavering away today I was listening to Radio Manchester.

The main topic of conversation has been

 INTERNATIONAL WORLD WOMEN'S DAY.

 Listeners were asked which woman or women inspired them

I couldn't resist ringing in and saying that my admiration goes out to all the artist/makers/crafters working alone in their studio workshops with perhaps just the radio for company.  

Getting  motivated every day can be hard for people working on their own.

 

But with the blogs and facebook pages they write about their work and the fantastic photographs that are posted it makes for a wonderful community where people are boosting each others confidence and inspiring one another to carry on.

Here are a tiny tiny few of the women textile/mixed media artists that I like and don't get me started on all the fabulous women I know in Vintage Land. I will have to leave that for another day

From a curtain to a cushion to a frock

 

I am hardly likely to forget this date

My Dad died on this day. That many years ago I can't remember.

Its our dear friends Golden Wedding anniversary today 

and another friend is celebrating her 80th Birthday.

  

You see this vintage curtain, well I got it some years ago and upto recently it has been used as a cover for the cushion on the bench in our boot room (the place we store our wellies and coats)

But now it has been transformed into a summer frock for me, by another one of my friends.

With the bits that are left I have made some lavender bags

and a bag for the lavender bags 

There is no way I can wait until the summer months before I wear my new frock

so once its dry (it was full of mud and needed washing) I am going to team it with

maroon opaque tights and maroon knee length boots and my tricel dusky pink cardi.

Stay tuned for further pics with me modelling it

We are dashing from one do to another so I better get a move on.

What's on my workdesk today

 

I got these curtains ages ago in the charity shop with the intentions of putting them up in the bedroom. Well they never got there because they were to short. So my friend is making me a skirt out of them.

 

With the pieces that are left I have cut around the some of the flowers

and I am making her a Thank You card

She is also making me a dress from another curtain that I had

I saw one of my Goddaughters using a card system to keep a track of her school work

and I have pinched the idea for things I might do or things that inspire me.

I've attached photographs to index cards, punched holes in and held them together with a ring.

Time for a pop over to Julia's place to see what other people are working on.
