Ooh what's she wearing now ?

This afternoon I went for a proper afternoon tea with a friend. The place was full, amazing for a Tuesday in a little place called Haslingden, Lancashire.
I've never explored around there before and was surprised by the cobbled streets and lovely shops. I spotted a few charity ones which I'm going to go back to another day.
Do you think the two ladies were admiring my frock
or saying to themselves "I've got a pair of curtains like that"
They wouldn't be wrong as I got these of Ebay for a song and our fantastically talented stitching friend made me the frock, a sleeveless top
 and a skirt
with plenty left for a bit of crafting,
which I will be doing tomorrow
I have another pair of curtains that came from the charity shop for £5,
so watch out for my next curtain frock.

Weekend workdesk and white wallpaper

I'm  having a workdesk day as the weather is so bad.
Yesterday we had a fab time in our favourite little market town,
Todmorden in West Yorkshire.
Even though we are in Rossendale, Lancashire, Tod is only about a 20 minute drive and feels like a step back in time with its lovely outdoor and indoor market that has my favourite haberdashery stall, amongst all the other great stalls I am always banging on about. Its so friendly and relaxed even on a cold day.
We decided against going in the local sit-in chippy for lunch this time as we had a basket full of homemade quiches, vegetarian pasties, cakes, breads and hot cross buns plus honey roast ham screaming out to be put between doorstep  slices of the rosemary, garlic and sundried tomato bloomer we had picked up from the artisan, frozen to bits but cheerful, baker on the outside stalls.
Back to today.....
I stamped these flowers onto a piece of the mahoosive roll of header tape I picked up in the charity shop last week for £1.50 but couldn't decide between doing a bit of slow stitching onto it or some free machine embroidery.
In the end I did both.
You see the brick wall background, its a piece of wallpaper I found and I've been using it as a backdrop for photographs.  My usual butterfly, overactive brain has come up with the idea of creating a wall of embroidery onto it using pieces of the header tape.
Lets see if that idea comes off or if it will it be another plan that sits alongside the other brainwaves that I stick up on the Wall of Inspiration.
Watch this space .... put the kettle on though it could be awhile
Nearly forgot to show you my charity shop find.
A pair of curtains for a fiver that must have come from a smoke free, clean house as they are immaculate.
I will be on the phone to friend Val after Easter to get them made into a frock and top for summer.
Another watch this space. You won't need to wait long, Val actually gets on with it.  She has just finished making me an A line short sleeve dress, top and skirt for the princely sum of £24. Again from a pair of curtains I picked up cheap.  I'll do a blog post with pics this week.

Happy Easter
(even though its a cold one)

When the curtain came down....

Happy Easter to everyone, I hope you will all being having a few choccies
Look what happened when I forgot to give these little beauties to my workshop ladies
Which is no good for the figure now that I've got my new frock to fit into that friend Val made from the old curtain that had been wrapped round the seat cushion in our boot room for about three years.
She also made this crimplene beauty into a knee length dress from a maxi, shortened the fancy bit on the front and then with the bits that were left made me this bag.  I am going to add a blingy button or brooch to the bottom of the handle.  How do you like it Vix ?
I got the dress off my bestie vintage trader friend Vix of
earlier this month at
Watch out for the next instalment of "When the curtain came down"
Here's a sneak preview

Happy Easter Friday

Friday fish, flowers and frocks

We are a bit yellow around the gills after getting up close and personal with these bad boys at the local garden centre.
They were all up for having your fingers off waiting for food.
Keeping with the yellow theme these pretty miniature daffodils came
from my niece Keeley's shop at the garden centre
Here's Auntie Gladys waving a cheery hello to you all
after our trip out where she thought I had transported her to a foreign country
No, we are not in Thailand or Jurassic Park, it's the garden centre
"Peace be with you all this weekend" said the Buddha to the fly
Nearly forgot to show you the skirt my friend made me out of a curtain
Curtain skirt, jumper from Stockport Vintage Village last weekend, tricel cardi charity shop

I haven't got a pic of me in the curtain dress yet but the pic below is the next curtain outfit Val is making for me.  I've got enough for a frock, skirt and top. Stay tuned for the results as she works quite quickly.
