Postman Dave's been ....

Look what Postman Dave rocked up with this morning.
Such a lovely surprise from dear blog friend Diana Taylor of Velvet Moth Studio.

Along with the lovely fripperies Diana sent me this Maddy McClellan
card as it reminded her of my Doodly Birds.

Well isn't that spooky as look what I've been working on.
They haven't been around for some time.

She often says that we are thinking in tandem.
Well I can't argue with that.
Thank you very much Diana, you are very generous.
Tania do you recognise the shiny feathers haha.

Happy weekend

1,647 Sketchbooks To Get Through

And here they all are ready to go on the shelves.  If you have missed what this is all about have a look at this link MY WELL TRAVELLED SKETCHBOOK.

I met up with St. Ives artist Sally MacCabe and we had a great time looking through the books together.  (sorry about the pic my hubby took it)

 SALLY MACCABE'S SKETCHBOOK

"Along the line" was her theme and using different paint effects and images you were led along a golden line through every page.  It was fabulous.
S52197-02

Next I looked at the book of Carolyn Saxby another St. Ives artist who I  recently met up with during a family holiday in Cornwall.  Carolyn's theme was "In 10 Minutes"  She photographed images then broke them down by zooming in further and further with fantastic results.

I could'nt wait to see what Diana Taylor of Velvet Moth Studio had come up with and I wasnt disappointed.  Her theme was  "I remember you".  Each page was a joy to turn with the story, textures and paint effects.

Have a look at some more of her book here

I forgot to tell you about the process for selecting a book to read.  You inputed a name or theme into the computer and your book selection was then handed to you.   At the same time you are given the book next to it on the shelf.  Books were catalogued by their theme.  This book by Jane Housham of Hitchin, Hertfordshire was the one next to Diana's.  It was a very moving book about her mother and the enormous amount of work and emotion that had gone into it blew us all away.
Have a look at the pages for yourself.
JANE HOUSHAM'S BOOK

One last book I am going to show you today is Sally's mum's - Val Moon.

I will be back with more books tomorrow.  Stay tuned and thank you for looking in.

Collage Obsession - Grey Theme

I love reading the blog of textile and mixed media artist Diana Taylor of Hampshire, UK
Her blog name is VELVET MOTH STUDIO

Diana's photography is always stunning and what drew me this week was the photo collages she submitted to COLLAGE OBSESSION CHALLENGE.  The theme was any art form using the colour grey.

I decided to take up the challenge myself and have submitted this piece which I made from a piece of slate I found on the moor along with the grey wire.
Ive drilled holes in the slate and weaved string through it. Its mounted on a canvas and hangs on my studio wall.

I like the idea of a collage challenge so I am going to start following along.

Thanks Diana.

Look what Postman John brought.......

"Ooh" I said to Postman John "whats this you are bringing me today."
And like last week when I received a beautiful parcel from Mel www.theyorkshirefox.blogspot.com
I was totally taken aback to see such lovingly wrapped packages.
This beautifully made tag and handmade card are from a dear blogland friend
.  The theme word for the Tag Tuesday Challenge this week was "FOUND"

One comment I left was
"THE BEST FOUND THING FOR ME THIS WEEK IS NEW FRIENDSHIPS."
How true this is proving to be. The people I am meeting via all our blogs and creative challenges are all warmhearted and generous and it is lovely to share our work with one another.

Now I have to wrap them all up again so that I can show them to my other creative friends.
(in person)

THANK YOU DIANA
