WOYWW 662…… Water, water everywhere

Gosh where did that week go.
We’ve had some horrendous weather, some days to
wet and windy to be going anywhere.

After seeing my fabric bowls last week a friend said will you make me
one for my front room. Some hours later spent hammering away at the
sewing machine and using a ton of sewing thread, here it is.

Here’s some other water soluble fabric samples I’ve been doing
for my course work.

I’ve trapped twisted raffia, wool and silk threads into this one and used the
fancy stitches on my sewing machine.  The little dress and brooch were handmade
and gifted to me some years ago by blog friends.

The prompt for February over at my No Rules Textile Society is
AUTOMATED STITCHING

We are exploring all the fancy stitches that we rarely if ever use.
Here’s a start to my samples.  I’ve used the Shibori fabric I dyed back
in November and a piece of cut up vintage fabric

That’s all folks from me this week.
Have a super crafty time
I’ll be chained to my sewing machine if you’re looking for me.

  1. Such interesting things to see again Lynn! I love the bowl you made for your friend, the colours are gorgeous and look fab with the wall paper and I love the textile samples - it looks like you are finding a lot of inspiration on this textile course. The shibori and embroidery samples look like fun - I do love trying out new stitches when I'm working on my hand embroidery.
Hope you have a lovely week,

  2. You are getting me in the mood to find where I left that soluble fabric, I'm very tempted. The bowls are amazing but be careful or they'll all want one. Sorry to hear about your weather it's not been too bad here. This part of the country is so different to when we lived in Wigan. Happy creative woyww, Angela x10x

  3. Lovely work Lynne. Just a word of warning - when I was doing similar years ago, I burnt out the foot on my sewing machine from going at it for such long periods of time. It is a thread and machine-heavy labour of love! xx Jo

  4. Love the bowl . . . super colours
I love to use raffia on my cards but it really makes that material for me, thanks for sharing.

  6. Yep, expect you’ll be braving the weather to have to buy a ton more thread, I can see how thread rich your week has been! I love the piece with the raffia, almost like lace with those fancy stitches. Great idea, using the stitches we rarely use. Chained to your sewing machine…ha, I wonder if you’ve ever felt the drudgery of stitching!

  7. Lovely work, Lynn. You have so much more energy than me. All the crazy weather is giving me headaches; all my energy is going into managing them.

  8. I’m rather late getting round today as I’m still playing catch-up from my 6 hours spent correcting my errors.
The more I see your gorgeous bowls the more I’m tempted to have a go...it’s something Jo and I had a go at years ago and I just know I’ve got some water soluble fabric somewhere.

  9. I guess we were lucky as we only had truly horrendous wet and windy weather on Sunday. But I can see that regardless of the weather, you've been using your time wisely. The fabric bowl you've made for your friend is gorgeous, and I'm loving all the samples and project you've been creating. xxx

  15. Hi Lynn, I'm fed up with the rain too - especially at weekend and I can't get out in the garden! Ah well, Lancashire Life! Haha. My sewing machine has loads of stitches I have never used - maybe I should have a trial run at them! Have a lovely week, Heather xx #2

  16. Lovely work! I like the fancy stitches, too. I do not get along with sewing machines, sadly. I would like to be able to sew on my paper projects but can't even do that. Have a great week. Sharon #25

  17. Hello Lynn, I'm enjoying keeping up with all the interesting classes you are following. The bowls are amazing but I also think the other fabric and stitch experiments are beautiful. My machine has lots of fancy stitches programmed but most don't get used nearly as often as they deserve. Truth to tell, it's been a wee while since I did any sewing but I plan to remedy that soon. Oh, and the weather is much the same here - just plain horrible! Have an interesting week. Elizabeth x #22

  18. DOH! My machine has loads of specialty stitches that I completely ignore. Straight, with the occasional zigzag. My machine needs a service cause I struggle to shift the stitch length slider now...eeek. Love the bowl, and a great way to stay in and be productive when the weather won't cooperate!

Late again . . . but so very VAXED :)
