WOYWW 661 - Stitching magic and a trip to market

2022 is becoming a real learning curve texturally with
the new water soluble online course I’m doing and prior
to that a week of stitch and fabric painting.

I’ve been back on the machine making another fabric bowl.

Look they’re multiplying

There’s been a trip to the famous
Bury Market, Lancashire which is about 20 minutes from home.

We got chatting to this lovely fabric stall holder.  His family
have had the stall for 76 years and had some real tales to tell.

They had some fabulous double sided wool materials.
If I was a dressmaker I’d have been bringing home
some of the black dogtooth one.

The market is on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday and folk
come on coach trips from as far as Southampton.

It was great fun to visit with plenty of places to have a cuppa
and lunch.

This’ll make you splutter.  As much as I love the styles and
how they coordinate colours, there’s no way I’d pay the prices
of clothing and interiors company Cabbages & Roses.

I did spot a frock equally as nice online at good old M&S for
a mere fraction of the price and I’ve teamed it up with a Scottish
made tank top I got in a shop last year in Ulverston, Cumbria.

Well back to the stitching now.
Have a good week everyone.
Keep crafting

Lynn

  1. I do love a market and having a laugh with the stallholders. Walsall's market, which was established in 1220, has taken a real battering during the pandemic, making the town even more dead and depressed.
Your bowls are absolutely gorgeous, I bet making them is rather addictive. They'd look amazing mounted on the wall going up the stairs, you could make hundreds!
Your dress is fabulous and a perfect dupe for the Cabbages and Roses one. Nikki and I popped into M&S in Birmingham as neither of us have one in our home towns. I can't believe how Per Una has changed, some gorgeous cotton blouses and dresses I'd be happy to wear! xxx

  2. That looks like a great day out and the Water soluble is coming along great. I did quite a bit of this in the past when I was still teaching and the kids loved it too. Have a great woyww. Hugs, Angela x15x

  3. My friend used to run up little frocks to go out in on a Saturday night in the sixties - courtesy of Bury market - I wonder if it was from the same stall holders! Your little stitched baskets a re lovely - I bet they take a while to make to be sure you have linked each stitchy bit. xx Jo

  5. Morning Lynn. Eek! Splutter? I think that I might still have been spluttering!!! How ever do companies justify that sort of price? I am so glad you are enjoying water soluble fabric making - it's such fun to do! Those bowls are certainly multiplying! Looks like you have next Christmas nearly sorted already!! They are beautiful.
    Take care. God bless.

  6. I once lived in Bury so the market was a staple for me. I never could see the attraction because it was 'the norm' to me. I wonder if I taught the fathers of that young lad on the fabric stall. I knew so many families from my teaching days who worked the market.
Love the bowls you are making and the fab outfit modelled so well for us - gosh the prices of those dresses!
    Hugs, Neet 2 xx

  7. I popped in earlier and saw your bowl from last week and happy to see more now. They are amazing and what a great way to use up those interesting threads! I have a ton from my scrapping days but no real use for them now. I must cast my mind in interesting directions to discover one, cause what you did with them is stunning. As is your version of the far too expensive frock. Well done!

    Back on track :D

  9. Oh what lovely fabric bowls. You always have unique arts to share. AND I love the collage photo at the very top, I'd love to be able to do that. Another class? I do love market spots, very few in our area, but when visiting sons both have access to a great variety of fun things. Covid put a damper to the Iowa ones but they'll be back this year. Some awesome ones when we travel to foreign places with other son. That's also been on hold. I want Spring and Normalcy more than ever Enjoy a great week

  10. I’ve been to Bury market, years ago now but I remember it being a really vibrant place! The fabrics stall looked wonderful, I think I would have had to splash the cash there and how brilliant that the same family have run it for so long. You did well getting that dress for a good price, I couldn’t pay the label dress amount, it’s obscene! I have really enjoyed seeing your fabric adventures recently, great fun!

  11. Your water soluble stitching is looking fabulous, I love the bowl collection, they look like they are fun to make as well as being gorgeous to look at! Your outfit is great and I'm sure is no different in quality to the £399 one, I don't know how they can justify that, I really don't.
Hope you have a lovely week,

  12. I'm loving your multiplying bowls, and the M&S version of that Cabbages & Roses dress could be a dead ringer for the original. Anyway, as I mentioned on Instagram, you are definitely wearing it better!
Bury Market looks lovely. Although there's a Saturday market in our village, it tends to be quite boring. xxx

  13. You saved yourself over £300 and more on that dress! If folk are daft enough to pay those hefty pricetags, they've more money than sense! I love your outfit and especially the Fair Isle Tank Top. Have a look at 'Plumo' for even heftier pricetags on their Fair Isle knitwear! I also love your bowls. Real art right there.

  14. Your dress was a positive bargain compared to the other one. Looks good on you too. I looked up Bury Market, it sounds worth a visit - if I can get my husband to agree! I saw a tutorial on using an embroidery hoop as a loom yesterday. Another project to add to the list! Angela #9

  17. I used to enjoy shopping at Bury Market when I lived down that way. There used to be an antique market on Thursdays - I wonder if they still happen now after the last two years. Your bowls are fantastic - you've got the bug. Have a great weekend. Elizabeth x #21
