There I was minding my own business admiring the snowdrops when
all of a sudden the dirty stinking water from the bird feeder ended
up all over my head and to say I smelt like a sewer is putting it mildly.
Lesson learnt - don’t forget to give the birds fresh water regularly.
Someone posted this on Facebook this week, it’s our exam results
from school in 1972. For some reason my six C.S.E. results are not in there
or my typing but at least I got some recognition for my Office Practice skills.
My first job on leaving school was in the accounts department at
Rediffusion television. My dad got me the job, one of the customers
of his mobile fruit & veg van “The Fruit Bowl” was the manager there.
Fortunately my low grade in maths didn’t put them off employing me.
The original school which was a girls grammar school, then a
high school for boys and girls has been knocked down in recent
years and replaced with a modern building.
This week we’ve woken up to some amazing misty mornings,
only to be replaced within no time with winds and rain every day.
So I’ve not been anywhere, preferring the warmth of home
and the comfort of a nice hot cup of tea, a bit of stitching, reading,
shouting instructions to Alexa to play various genres of music
depending on my mood and what I’m doing. My best friend’s
dad has had me listening to James Taylor this week. Great music
for crafting along to.
My fixation with creating online jigsaws from my own photographs
and improving my word skills with scrabble and the latest once a
day Wordle puzzle continues. Apparently it’s been sold for
millions to the Americans.
Watch out it’s addictive
Nothing to see here this weekend apart from a couple of
friends calling round for a beer or three.
We will be watching The Great British Pottery Throwdown.
Last weeks episode was my favourite so far, creating vessels from the
1960’s. I’ll be giving the BBC 1 new thriller Chloe another go.
I’m not to sure about it yet. Hasn’t there been some brilliant dramas
on recently. I was hooked on The Responder with Martin Freeman,
it was very intense.
Hopefully we will get some milder weather soon and things
will continue to pick up.
Have a lovely weekend.
Lynn

Oh Lynn. Poor you with the bird’s water...I must admit I did giggle a little cos that’s the sort of thing that happens to me. We have been binge watching several of the dramas on the telly lately and it’s lead to a few late nights...cos you just have to watch one more don’t you? Have a great week and roll on Spring.
ReplyDeleteHugs,

A cute little mousie in the snowdrops to start today's post. It is strange when someone else's Fbook post is a blast from the past for you. The school looks as though it has rather splendid grounds.
ReplyDeleteI do Wordle each day but was almost caught out one day last week when they used the American spelling of a word. I guess we have to expect that now. I am more of a number person and do daily sudoku and killer sudoku puzzles most days. Soon it should be warm enough to get out and about a bit more. Kate x
OOps! Not nice having dirty water all over you. I admit to giggling a bit, but of course it was no laughing matter when it happened to you. Now that you are changed and showered, I'm sure you can see the funny side of it.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing he snowdrops (we don't get those)so thank you for that. Say hello to that cute little mouse for me please.
I've not heard of that author, but I will look it up. And your tv series, now that I have VPR, I will have a look at those too.
Yes, I play Wordle too (I saw Kate do it and got hooked too). I also play Spider solitaire and Killer Sudoku, which sounds more difficult than it is.
Have a lovely weekend,
Hugs,
Lisca
Hi Lynn I'm back from walking the dogs. It was frosty here and now very sunny but cold. Great post today and I can relate to lots of it. 1972 was the year I went to teacher training college and lucky for me you didn't need a really high grade in Maths to get a place so you can guess it was not my favourite subject either. Calculators were a god send for adding up the register each week Lol! It always seems a shame to me that they knock down old building like that but I guess the new one had advantages but not so nice looking. The village school that I first went to still remains now as a Junior school. I'm not sure but it had to be about 1920s when it was built as I know my mother went to it and she was born in 1928. I bet that book about Miriam M. is brilliant she is so funny. Oh and the water I can just smell it! I cannot count how many times things like that have happened to me but usually it's the tap that explodes water at me so it's not quite so bad but I have been known to pour the dog bowl over myself too. You have a lovely weekend just try and stay dry. Hugs, Angela xXx
ReplyDeleteWhat a surprise when you dropped by my blog today. I got hung up on those jigsaw puzzles. You are right. They are addicting. Sorry to read about the birdbath water. Sure surprised someone posted about your scores, but I guess they are public information/knowledge.
ReplyDeleteLOVED the cats hanging out. So cute.
Look at that view! I do like a bit of spooky mist (and cats hanging out!)
ReplyDeleteWhat a shame your school got demolished and replaced by that monstrosity.
I love the photo of your dad and his van and Redifusion is a right blast from the past, whatever happened to them?
We shall get round to watching The Responder eventually, there's toomuch good stuff on the telly at the moment, isn't there? I loved this week's Throwdown, the best yet (shame about Nick!) xxx
Oh dear, Lynn, I was in the middle of typing a long chatty comment too, and my finger slipped. All lost! So here goes again. I hated secretarial studies at school, was determined I wouldn't be a secretary, ever. Fast forward a couple of decades and a spell at college and there I was, a medical secretary - for a few years anyway. I cringed at your accident with the water but I live the shot of the cute wee creature down among the snowdrops. Still listening to Miriam Margoyles - gosh, she is candid, is she not! The photo of your dad is great - men all wore suits back then. I'm a Wordle fan too. Altogether another lovely post Lynn, much to think about. Have a great weekend. Elizabeth x
ReplyDeleteI'm absolutely loving that misty view, and I certainly wouldn't have cause to leave the house with a view like that.
ReplyDeleteThose exam results must have been a true blast of the past. I've never been good at maths either, and remain so to this day. Love the photo of your Dad standing proudly next to its van, and your old school looks truly magnificent. So sad that it has been replaced by that modern monstrosity! That said, my old school - the one in the village where I went to until age 14 - isn't even there anymore. xxx
Weather aside, it all sounds perfectly lovely. I don't mind a rainy day at times, for these very reasons, especially when "home" is cozy.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. I left school in 1965 and went on to learn shorthand and typing and remember ULCI - I am desperately trying to remember what the initials stood for? As to maths, I was so frightened of our maths teacher that I never learned anything. I found out later in life that I actually wasn't that bad, just the teaching was!
ReplyDeleteIt stands for Union of Lancashire & Cheshire Institute.
DeleteI couldn’t have been that bad at maths either Julia as I not only worked in an accounts office, I worked behind a bar and had to add up in my head and I’ve run our business for 40 years. So not so thick eh haha
I watched Chloe, it's very atmospheric, and I did enjoy it but I think it left a few things unaswered, so I wonder if there is going to be another series.
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, I can't always erad much of your posts as it displays weirdly on my pc but I did catch the bit about the bird feeder. I am sorry to say I laughed becaue I have NEVER had that happen to me!! (Right). These days I leave it to the old man. Hope your day gets better! Happy WOYWW, love n hugs, Cindyxx #15
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW. Your life is as full of interesting stuff as mine! I have clicked on the link for Online Jigsaws, but keeping away from it until later - when I have at least got one more set of books published on Amazon. I love Wordle too - and proud to say that I get it right most days. I have watched the first episode of Chloe and loved the characters. Will get round to watching the rest of the series eventually (hubby definitely wouldn't understand what is going on at all, so it is on my list of programmes to watch by myself - which, now I am getting up later in the morning, isn't getting watched much). We have watched so many fabulous drama series lately - on BBC, Netflix and other channels. Ali x #17
ReplyDeleteETA .... I didn't stay away from Jigsaw Planet, and now have created an account/my first album/first puzzle (and have sorted out the edge pieces for it)! Help. Someone stop me!!
ReplyDeleteOh my look at your snowdrops 💕💕💕 I'm sorry I may have giggled at the bird bath as it's something that would happen to me.
ReplyDeleteLooking at that gorgeous view even with the mist, your days sound idyllic 🤗 so glad I stopped by for a visit it's been a joy to read your post and see your photos. I'm a huuuge fan off pottery throwdown and only recently started making my own cups ... a dream come true. Sending hugs Tracy xxx #25
