It’s Wednesday again………. What’s on your Workdesk

Here’s a weekend round up before I get to my desk.

I took mum to a lovely little outdoor craft event at our local pub.
It was so nice chatting to folk and having a look round.

I’ve never liked fudge but these girls have got it right, it’s more like
eating traybake cakes.  It was their first fair and we wish them lots of luck.

Same goes for mother and daughter team “From Rainbows” their first event.
I didn’t think I’d see dried flowers coming back on the scene in as big a way as they
did in the late 80’s early 90’s. Well they have and are the new thing for weddings
and interiors.

Ok now to the matter in hand before I get removed from class
by our beloved leader Julia for waffling.

I’ve done some fabric printing with leaves and added reverse appliqué
for the no rules textile society nature prompt

and for my online free motion embroidery course with Jo Hill I’ve
completed a lesson in couching stems down with wool.  Took me a
bit to get the hang of it but I think I’ve cracked it now.

If anyone has ever been to the fabulous Sunday flower market on London’s
Columbia Road this little book is filled with beautiful images of the market.
It’s lovely and is one of a series of seven books of around London.

I pulled three flowers apart -  a rose, a penstemon and a dahlia and
with the petals made a new variety “whatsimebobs”. It’s being
pressed between the pages in an old ledger now.

Tuesday afternoon and after a session of weeding in the garden
I’m now doing a bit more flower studying before I get back
to the sewing machine later.

This is the bag I made last week at the sewing class I went to
locally.  This week it’s a fabric basket - gulp !

Now can someone tell the sun to get his hat back on please.

Hope everyone is ok and busy at their desks.
See you next week.
Take care
Lynn

  1. What a fun post. Too much to absorb quickly - the best kind. All the sewing is wonderful and the flowers make me happy. That fudge looks lush and I am also not a fudge fan at all. It's funny about the dried flowers, my niece recently got married and in the states it seems WOOD flowers are a huge thing for bouquets. That's a new one on me. You look like you are fed up with the heat, and I know I will be by the end of the weekend, but for today I am just happy it isn't raining LOL!

    Happy Desk Hopping!

  2. Oh eco, don’t do it Alan, your space does not need the overhaul and clean that mine does. You go on living your beautiful eye candy week please! That multicolour dyed gysophila had me swooning, so pretty! What a lovely looking event too, would love to have a gentle stroll round something like that! Meanwhile I’m loving the couched stems, what a great idea…..I’m thinking patience required for rolling wool and steady stitching!

  4. A lovely crafting event there Lynn - I noticed dried flowers seem to be making a comeback too - much nicer than the old style too. Your reinvented flower is stunning - makes me think you will be layering up your fabrics in flower collages too. xx Jo

  5. Oh, Lynn! I know I"ve been to your blog before but I don't think I've ever realized the depth of vintage flair. I love the new flower you created and are preserving. I love charity shops (we call them thrift stores here in the US). I enjoyed meandering through the market and your photos. Warmed my heart. Creative Blessings! Kelly #25

  6. What a lovely weekend you've had, and I'm absolutely loving the look of that fudge! I'd no idea about dried flowers being back on trend!
You've been doing wonders with the fabric printing and embroidery, and that sounds like a fabulous book.
How clever to have made your own new variety of flower. Imagine someone finding that pressed flower in the future, and thinking it's a rare variety! xxx

    1. I’d never even thought of someone finding the flower Ann. Funny enough there were lots of dried leaves in the ledger when I got it xxx

  7. Loving all your photos. So bright and clear, do you use your phone? I'm having issues with photos I post. I love the fabric printed leaves and the stitched flowers (by the Flower Market book) Both are true beauties. Your collage is as much fun as your weekend, thanks for sharing. Enjoy a great WOYWW kind of day

  8. I was so impressed by your visit to the craft market. SO glad to read that dried flowers are making a comeback. I would be tempted by that fudge, too. LOVE your free motion stitching. My feed dogs don't drop, so I am limited in what my machine can do. You are putting yours to great use.

  13. Now that looked like a great day out and I'm really enjoying your progress with the machine embroidery. I feel like doing some myself but need to finish getting the loft sorted so that I can use the sewing machines again and yes that is plural as there are a few up there including an automatic embroidery machine that has hardly been used which the school gave me when I retired. Hope you have a lovely creative woyww. Hugs, Angela x16x

  15. I love your Franken-flower, what a gorgeous thing! Where do you get your ideas from?
When we used to trade in Bethnal Green a lot of the customers would be laiden down with flowers they'd bought at Columbia Road market which was just around the corner, we always said we'd get there even earlier oe time and have a look - there used to be a TV Show called Columbia Road, a fly on the wall documentary series we loved!
Long may this sunshine last, I love it! xxx

  16. you look how I feel. I am getting ready to go home. Sad but happy, I am going to miss my family here but I have my own family in Japan now. I cried on Saturday when I found out my gecko had died. She had been a part of my family for 15 years!!
The kids buried her for me. They want short clawed otters which are legal over in japan as pets.
The fudge looked awesome but I cannot eat due to allergies damn ! I love fake real flowers I have a few stems round my house mainly roses Paul gives me on white day.
I really want to get back to my sewing machine when I get home you have really inspired me!! Love and hugs allie
