Lockdown Diary 2021 - Saturday 9th January.... Nothing to see here again

Saturday 9th January 2021

Absolutely nothing to see here,  even the birds are flying by as if to say where’s everything gone.  The thick fog has blocked off the view of the fields across the valley and it doesn’t look like it’s going to shift anytime soon.  It’s amazingly quiet and the snow is not shifting.

I started the day of with a bit of reading and a cup of tea in bed.  I’m currently reading Kate Humble’s book A Year of Living Simply. I’ve just noticed she’s got a new series starting on Channel 5 on Sunday at 9.00pm, called Escape To The Winter Farm.  If you saw the first series you will know it’s filmed at her farm in Monmouthshire.

Most days I write up my journal in the morning. It’s full of my ramblings as well as facts about the awful situation we are all in. Maybe one day in the future someone will pick my journals up and think crikey what a time that was, or more likely crikey that woman could spout some rubbish haha.

After a catch up with social media I headed for the shower and then spent around 30-45 minutes doing my daily Pilates.  I’ve started to vary each session.  Today I worked through it in a somatic manner, making each movement slow and flowing, connecting brain and muscle.  Some days I do it to a count of the breath and others working through the positions at a faster pace.  I’ve found that the chatter in my head is becoming more positive and I can bring myself back into the moment more easily when my thoughts start to wander.  Years of attending Pilates classes at my physio clinic are paying off.

After a breakfast of porridge and berries and another cuppa thoughts turn to what we will have for the evening meal.  Homemade vegetable soup tonight I think and we can finish off the tasty mixed seed and rye sourdough bread we picked up on our shopping trip on Wednesday.

Postman Sid arrived with the long awaited Christmas present from my sister.  We’ve no idea where it’s been all this time.
I may just have to flounce round the house with it on my shoulder until we are allowed out again.  It’s from a British Etsy shop

Today I’d given myself the task of clearing out the space under my craft desk.  I’ve no idea when it was last done.

There was stuff under there I haven't seen for years.  Like this basket full of papers.

And I found a lovely box of fabrics as well.
I wonder if I’ll get the urge to start crafting again after all this clearing and sorting.

My Mum has got a date for her Covid vaccination, it’s Monday.  I’m hoping she will be having the Oxford one so that she doesn’t have to have another.  Either way what a relief that she’s getting it.

Saturday is generally radio 2 day in this house, except we skip the Graham Norton show. Then when all the singing and dancing is done, it’s a night with the telly and maybe a beer or two for Philip.

Take care as always
Lynn

  1. What a lovely craft room you have and I love your little basket case!I've got about 3 journals that I've been given over the years and not one word in any of them! We've no snow yet but it's bitterly cold. My Mum gets her jab on Tuesday. It wasn't Graham Norton this morning but Nicki Chapman who was filling in. I listened especially because Ricky Ross of Deacon Blue was on. I'm loyal like that. Have a good evening. x

    1. Good luck to your Mum on Tuesday I hope it goes well for her.
I’ve heard Graham Norton is leaving the Saturday spot but I don’t know who is taking over.
I’m chuckling about your untouched journals. Not to worry you’ll open them one day.
Take care and have a good week xx

  2. Oh, no view at all! I don't like this winter weather! And I don't like the cold either. We have had snow too and one of the power lines to the Internet is down and we have been without internet all weekend (until now). Luckily we still have power.
It's nice to hear you talk about your day. I love Radio 2, and I particularly liked to listen on Sundays (never on Saturdays). On Sundays there was Steve wright's Sunday Love Songs, then we would go to church (we don't care for Michael Ball) and have lunch (we don't care for Elain Page either) and then I would look forward to Johnnie Walker's sounds of the 70s and after that Paul o'Grady's show.
You have a fantastic craft room and a beautiful glass desk. Isn't it nice to find things you didn't know you had!
I love that little handbag your sister gifted you. Did you know what she was going to send you? It's beautiful!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend,
    Stay safe,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

    1. Hi Lisca
No I didn’t know what my sister had bought me but I did say I would like one. Can’t wait to use it properly.
We like Johnnie Walker as well.
Hope your week goes well and it warms up a bit.
      Still thick fog here xx

  3. I love reading your ramblings, Lynn! I feel a distinct need to put my thoughts on paper and preserve them for a future when all this is just a bad memory. Sometimes I despair and wonder if that time will ever come, though.
I'm admiring you doing your Pilates routine, and I should definitely take a leaf out of your book when it comes to clearing up. Oh, and snap: I've got almost exactly the same round wicker handbag! xxx

    1. Hi Ann
I’ve always enjoyed writing in a journal, though I’ve never done it as much as now. I’d love to peep into other folks journals but of course if they’re like me I keep them to myself.
I’m giving myself one task a day in the clearing department and it seems to be working.
I’m not surprised we’ve got the same bag. Great minds think alike xxx

  4. We had that horrid freezing fog a few days before you, it's really creepy and doesn't half hang around!
Great news about your Mum's Covid vaccine. Liz's Mum goes this week, she wasn't expecting to be called so soon considering she only turned 80 on 14th December. She can't wait, she's missing her bus rides and charity shopping.
I'd love a rummage in your paper basket and talking of baskets, your Xmas pressie is gorgeous especially with that posh frock.

    1. The fog is still here and hasn’t lifted at all today but we have had a bit of rain tonight.
I couldn’t believe the stuff I’ve come across while I’ve been clearing my room. We’ve only got two rooms that are a tip now instead of three haha. I can hardly get in the office now. They could feature us on the that hoarders programme xxx
