What’s on your Workdesk Wednesday

Hello desk hoppers, how do you like the visor Mum got me.
I bet you’re thinking she’s painted her nails to match.  Well I might have done self consciously.

The nail painting is a new thing for me as the last time I had them done was August 2019 for my nephews wedding.

When I say last time that’s not quite true because I got a box of Barry M gel polishes off the internet after admiring my friend Vix’s lovely talons and now I’m on my third colour.

This has got nothing whatsoever to do with what’s on my desk, so I better get on with it before Mrs D sends me to the naughty corner.

This week I’ve stitched these three pieces which are now ready to send off to The Medicine Spoon Memorial project.
You can read about it here LINK HERE

A friend of ours is 70 this week and due to the new covid rules in our area he has had to postpone the get together we were going to have in his garden.

So what I’ve done is cut up all of the wandering welders 70th birthday cards from last year and made them into little dangly hangings and bunched a load together like a flip book.  If we can’t go to the party, I’ll send the party to him.

Please don’t tell the welder I’ve cut his cards up, he will be mighty upset and have my guts for garters.  We wouldn’t want that spilling out over my frock would we.

Have a crafty/creative week all.  I may not be here next Wednesday as there’s a chance we will be at the caravan for the first time this year and it will be my 65th birthday as well.  Only one year to go and I’ll officially be a pensioner yeah !!  Bring it on.

Take care dear friends and thanks always for dropping by.

  5. I can't remember the last time I painted my nails - probably in my teens - neon yellow - I wanted to make them glow in the dark LOL! I followed your link to the medicine spoons memorial project - which prompted me to research witch hunts - I remember reading a book about it a while back - amazing how it was acceptable at that time - and it's interesting how mass hysteria can take over rational thinking. Scary though because that sort of paranoia can still happen again in our society in different forms and become acceptable when it's happening - it's only in hindsight that we re-evaluate our thinking. Anyway, I'm being philosophical here, going off on a tangent. Love your stitched spoons - very folk arty! Have a creative week and thanks so much for your visit earlier! zsuzsa #11

  6. Love your coloured nails....my nails are really long at the mo but nailvarnish seems to ruin the comdition of them so I've held off so far [but I'm sorely tempted now I've seen yours]. I've treated myself to some face shields too so I can slowly start doing fittings for my customers again.
Have a great birthday if we don't see you next week.
    Hugs,

  7. I always look forward to your posts, Lynn. Thanks for sharing about the Medicine Spoon Memorial Project - I'd love to take part as I come from a very witch-burny part of the country and feel that sadness very keenly at times.
I love what you've been up to and glad you've been able to repurpose those cards - it's great to get to enjoy them again.
I hope it's safe enough for you to visit your caravan. Have a lovely week!

  9. I have clear polish on my nails regularly but have been neglecting them of late and the right hand shows it!
What a lovely idea for the 70 year old friend, you are so thoughtful and I am sure the welder would not mind if he found out - he seems caring too.
Love the spoon makes - well done you.
Hugs, Neet 14 xx (at our 'van for the 2nd time - got to get them in before another lockdown)

  11. Love your nails, my favourite colour when I do mine, which is only usually for holidays. I spend most of my time with my hands in soil so nice nails don't last long lol.
Enjoy your holiday and have a very happy birthday.

  12. Hi Lynn, nice visor and nails to match you could start a whole new fashion! I do use nail varnish but only because my nails are so pathetic that I need something to stop them breaking so it's nothing fancy like that but I love it. Wishing you a happy woyww and a lovely week of crafting too, Angela x10x

  13. I think the visor is an excellent accessory. I’m pleased that the manufacturer has thoughtfully spelled out in nice big letters exactly what it is, we wouldn’t want any confusion, huh! I love the dangly party bits. Didn’t realise you were in one of the new rules for Cove areas. Bummer. I can feel the caravan calling your name, it will be fab, am a tad excited for you! I didn’t (of course) know about the medicines spoon project, how fascinating. Spoons are a bit of thing for me, ask JAn!

  15. Will you be wearing that visor when going out? To be honest, I'd rather wear a mask, as a visor looks extremely impractical in my eyes! I don't think they are even allowed instead of a mask here in Belgium. Well, I haven't seen anyone wearing them on the streets. Love your nail polish. I'm intrigued by those spoons, so I will have a look at the link later. What a lovely idea to make flip books of the welder's birthday cards for your friends. He won't hear it from me, I promise :-) Do keep well, lovely lady, and I'm still keeping my fingers firmly crossed you'll be able to celebrate your 65th at the caravan! xxx

  16. love the nails there's a bit of a BarryM cult following going on in blogland, I bagged a big sale selection myself, although currently I have been nibbling (the nails, not the polish). Like the crafting, it's good that we are all feeling creative, shows we aren't depressed, muchly :)

  17. The visor is fantastic. I am thinking that having one would be so much easier than a mask for my face-to-face teaching next year. I love your nails and the re-purposing of cards (I won't tell - promise!). Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love and God Bless, Caro xxx (#13)

  21. Coloured nails are the theme for today! I don't do it often but it does give you a lift to flash a bit of colour round doesn't it. Your spoon embroideries are lovely - I love a bit of hand stitching in a display. xx Jo

  22. You've got lovely hands and the Barry M really show them off! The blue is a brilliant match for your visor. I've always painted my toenails but never did my fingernails until ten years ago and now I feel wrong when they're naked.
Love your hand stitching and the Welder's recycled card idea.
I'm keeping everything crossed that you'll be at the caravan next week it'll do you both the power of good! xxx

  23. What a fabulous post, Lynn, and you did make me laugh with your remarks about the Welder and your guts!! Your face shield is exactly the same as mine! I refuse to wear a mask as I can't bear anything over my face. I don't go out much at all, but today we had to go to the dentist and I had to have a face covering. I hate the words "face shield" across the front (totally unnecessary in my opinion because it's pretty obvious what it is lol!) so I stuck a strip of x2-sided tape over it and stuck on some tasselled trim. OK, I look like a lampshade with it on, and my dentist laughed and called me Marta Hari haha!! He and his nurse both said the shield was much better than a mask, anyway, from the point of view of protection. It doesn't interfere with your breathing, doesn't get hot, and doesn't steam up your glasses, and it also has the benefit of covering your eyes as well as your nose and mouth. I'll post a photo of Shoshi-the-Lampshade next week for you to laugh at. I made sure I took my matching turquoise crutches to the dentist today.

Love your brilliant painted nails - and yes, I always admire Vix's too! She and I are now blogging friends because of you - I came across her via a comment here on your blog. She is so lovely and I get such a lift visiting her fabulous blog. It was she who got me going on the weekly fashion show slot on my blog!

Thank you for your lovely visit. So glad you like my tiny carpets, the weekly fashion show (idea I got from Vix!) and the kitties! Dr. Wareham's testimony is amazing isn't it. As for making improvements on the diet front, the best way is to start gradually. It's really hard to go completely vegan overnight - just starting with one day a week, or one meal a day... Or you could do it for a limited period, say 3 weeks, and see how you are. It doesn't take long to notice a real change in your health, and an improvement in your sense of taste and enjoyment of real food.

    Happy belated WOYWW,
    Shoshi x #18
