Lockdown Diary - Soup, Harlots and Auriculas

I’ve got my pinny on.  Alexa is playing Smooth Chill.

Recipe at the ready.

Let the chopping begin.

So tonight’s tea (that’s what us northerners have) is Jamie’s sweet leek and watercress soup with seeded bread rolls.

Now time to sweep and mop the floor, have a walk round the block by which time my back will be killing me and I will need to lie down for 20 minutes while it puts itself back in place.

We will be taking our seats later for Monty Don and then there’s a bbc4 programme on the 70’s band The Real Thing.

Did anyone watch The Harlots on BBC2 last night.
What did you think of it.  Much better than A Suitable Boy.  I’ve sacked that one.

I’ve no idea if this video link will work as I’ve not done it before.  It’s of Corrine Young Textile Artist who I’ve had the pleasure of meeting when I attended a workshop she was facilitating at CREATE ESCAPE, Milnthorpe, Cumbria
where we made bouquets of paper flowers.

I also have two of her beautiful stitched plants and a brooch.
It’s the first video Corrine’s done showing the process of her work.

I am going to do a few little posts of some my favourite British makers/artists as they need all the support they can get during the pandemic.

Can you believe the weekend is here again and it’s almost mid August.  I can’t believe where the hours and days go.

If you’re going out don’t forget your masks.
See you next time and thanks always for popping by.

  1. Your soup sounds delish....I love soup all year round but my other half is a cold weather soup lover....but I do my best to sneak it in when I can :-)

  2. Watercress and leek soup that sounds delicious, do miss watercress as they don't have it in Spain. Ani

  3. I watch Jamie Oliver's veg (and other) programs on TV; he makes me run to the kitchen to do some cooking. Then I have to take a break -- I don't know where he gets all that energy from. xxx

    1. I love his Five Ingredients book the best Colette. All my Jamie books are full of scribbles saying if we liked the recipe or not. I bought my goddaughters the 5 book when they all went off to uni xxx

  5. That's an awful lot of green veggies but it sounds interesting. My favourite salad green is watercress but we don't get it here in Spain. Not enough water I guess.
I gave up on A Suitable Boy too. Couldn't follow it. This month we spend most evenings out on the porch anyway. It is marginally cooler than indoors.
The hand made flowers are beautiful. What a clever lady. Kate x

  6. I'm a vegetarian and I LOVE Jamie Oliver. Therefore this soup and this post spoke to me.

You are doing a beautiful thing. I'm impressed you made those flowers and are now supporting Corrine and her work.

I don't get British TV, so had NO idea what you were talking about (grin). Have a lovely rest of Friday and a great weekend.

  7. Hi Lynn, I don't know where the time has gone today. I checked in at Annie's and then just got busy with stuff. Bet your tea was good today though if it's been as hot where you are as it has been here you might have wanted your soup chilled today. I don't like it so hot but I have to say the washing dried almost as soon as I hung it out. Have a lovely weekend. Hugs, Angela xXx

  9. I love Jamie Oliver, I leant some to a friend but when she moved she never gave me them back ! I am not speaking to her now neither. I watch him sometimes online.
When my EDS plays up it’s always my back that goes first, your lucky you don’t have to wear a lovely back brace! To stop it from spams . Love the paper flowers.

    1. I hate it when people don’t return books. It’s a real bugbear of mine. I have them all over the house.
I’m going to buy Jamie’s new book when it comes out in a couple of weeks. It accompanies his new programme.
Having back problems is so draining. I’ve got scoliosis and osteoporosis, it’s no fun.
      Take care Allie x

  10. That soup looks delicious, Lynn. I do love Jamie Oliver, but we have someone in Belgium doing daily meals on the telly, and he's very popular too. I'm having some muscle and joint aches as it is very warm and humid here. Moving about does help, but it's too warm for that today, up to 38°C! I'm loving those Auriculas! xxx

    1. What a pair we are Ann, we are like twins at the moment aren’t we.
The soup was delicious. I normally do it without the watercress but it gave it an extra kick.
Jamie got a new programme coming up soon so I’ll be tuned into that. He’s looking at the foods we buy the most of and showing us 7 different ways to cook each food type using store cupboard ingredients.
The stitched plants are amazing when you see them for real. Take care xxx

  11. The soup sounds delicious. ASlthough I prefer to have soups on colder days, and today (as every day) is too hot.
I don't have that Jamie Oliver book. (I thought I had them all). I will look out for that one.
I've just watched the Corinne Young video. Very well made. I love the auricula flowers she makes. How clever.
I hope your back feels better. I didn't know you suffered from your back.
    Have a great weekend,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

    1. Jamie has a new book coming out in about a fortnight. I’ve preordered mine already.
To own one never mind two of Corrine's stitched plants is rather special.
Hope your weekend is going well Lisca xx
I’ve got scoliosis and osteoporosis Lisca and it’s not been great for sometime now.

  12. Get you, Mrs Domestic Goddess! That soup looks and sounds delicious.
I'm crazy about those Auriculas and that cat!
Get yourself a Tens machine, it's really helped Jon - his was £19.99 from Lloyds pharmacy website.
Much as I adore Samantha Morton (fellow Midlands girl) I didn't fancy the look of Harlots, it reminded me of an Adam & the Ants video from the 1980s. Monty, on the other hand, is always a joy! How amazing was Dolly's Jamaican garden? I wanted to move in!

    1. If you’ve got to do domestic stuff, might as well make a show of it haha 😆
I’ve got a tens machine stuffed in a drawer somewhere. Haven’t seen it for years.
I’m not to sure about Harlots. I’ll give it another go and then decide. Monty and Miriam has been great Friday night tv. xxxx

  14. I loved Jamie's progs at the start of lockdown. Such a lovely family he has. Not like that Ramsay lot of spoiled brats!I watched Harlots which was rather naughty in a very bawdy way. I like the storyline though and the rivalry between the two main characters. I'm off to have a look at your stitchery. Looks wonderful.
