BACK TO THE FUTURE -
PART ONE
We are a million days into lockdown now and I’m starting a long overdue revamp of my workroom.
It started by pulling things down off the walls and shifting books from one set of shelves to another with no definite plan as to where I’d put everything.
The cork boards on the wall were first put up in May 2014 to pin inspirational images and stitched samples to. Prior to that I’d used blue tac, which was fine until I opened the patio door and the wind would blow things off.
You can see what it looked like back then in this link
My thinking is I’d like to create a space that would take me in a different direction creatively.
A move more towards working with natural things, wood, metal, found objects etc, like Ive done in the past and haven’t explored for a long time.
The enormity of the task got a bit much on the first day, ending up with me sat in a corner with a cuppa, thinking what the heck have I started. Not only was my workroom desk and floor full of stuff, so was the office floor.
I’ve had enough of that now so I’m going to show you my new frock instead bought online from Palavafolk. A much more pleasurable thing to do.
No saving for best, I dress up even if I’m staying home and doing chores.
We had an outing to the local food market on Saturday, perfect for showing off my new clobber. The velvet coat is a recycled one from an Instagram friend.
Do you remember going round to relations as a child with your new clothes on and they’d give you a few pennies for looking so nice.
Sunday’s outfit cost me less than the postage of my new frock and was bought a couple of years ago from a charity shop in Barrow In Furness, Cumbria for £6.50.
You’ll have noticed by now that I’ve come up with yet another excuse for not having anything on my desk. Julia is going to turf me off WOYWW one of these Wednesday’s haha.
Stay tuned for next week’s excuse . In the meantime check into what the active crafters/makers have been upto over at
Oh Lynn I do not envy you the sorting and reorganising. On the other hand I am sure you will come across all sorts of treasures and finish with loads of ideas. Great outfits, love the new frock! Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #8.
ReplyDeleteI don't care about the crafting or lack of, I love seeing all your ideas and your dresses too - they're so pretty and I love the fact that you wear them all the time. I used to wear brightly coloured skirts all the time but seem to spend my life in shorts or cropped trousers these days...perhaps I'll make myself something!

I rather enjoy the 'desk' you share with us each week so please don't stop joining in. You're creativity shines through in all you do Lynn.

Morning Lynn. I love the post! Such fun - and so encouraging that I am not the only one who needs to recover from creating a muddle with a good panad (a Welsh cuppa!) I love the outfits - great finds - new or charity shop! I love skirts - but don't wear them as often as I used to... don't know why really...
ReplyDeleteTake care. Stay safe. God bless.

I can totally get where you are coming from with the overwhelming task of sorting, and like you I spent a lot of time looking at the mess with a cuppa in my hand! I love your outfits and the fact you don't keep them for best - it's wonderful to enjoy them in the here and now. A friend said to me when she discovered I was keeping a couple of candles she had given me for best 'don't save things for a life you might live - use them in the life you're living now'. I thought it very apt advice and have tried to follow it.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing your revamped workroom - happy sorting,

Oh you’ll have to do a lot worse before there’s no space for you here missus! It’s probably not de rigger, but am a little bit pleased that once you’d got the floor covered with stuff, you had to stop. Make me feel a whole lot better. Am facing something similar and will be whining about it on my blog very soon! Love the new frock...and of course, now I have to go visit palavafolk too. I dont have your sense of style at all, so will only be browsing, but I’m fascinated enough by you to do that! Now then..back to avoiding clearing stuff out then!
ReplyDeleteyour outfits look fabulous, very you I would say! Good luck with your craft room revamp! Helen #2
ReplyDeleteGreat outfits, i have to say I don't buy much from charity shops though I do send plenty however I have a cardigan which I bought second hand and I have probably worn it more than any other clothing I have so how crazy is that. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x20x
ReplyDeleteWell done with your mammoth reorganisation task, Lynn - it knocks my little pantry into a cocked hat! (Glad you like it, though!). I really enjoyed your mini-fashion show this week, too - absolutely gorgeous frocks! I am coming round to your way of thinking - to dress up even when just pottering about at home. I go out so infrequently and it's a shame to have all those nice things just hanging in the wardrobe and not getting worn. I have to admit to not having worn any makeup since the beginning of the lockdown, though... (Is Shoshi letting herself go??) Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteHappy WOYWW,

I know the feeling, sitting on the floor surrounded by chaos, wondering what on earth you were thinking of! I love your plan of embracing the natural and found things and that play on the Apocalypse Now quote is brilliant.
ReplyDeleteHow fabulous is that Palavafolk dress? I had to visit the website and I'm in love with everything they do. Thank goodness for charity shop bargains so we can save the pennies and splurge on show-stopping dresses every now and then.
Hope you're day isn't as wet and grey ours ours is! Looks like indoor tasks for us! xxx
I am also in the process of having a sort out, I live in a small house and there are 5 of us eeek!! I am trying hard to free up space but still have about 5 big bags to sort though - the trouble is , I don't want to get rid of it either ha ha. Your dress is stunning - all are but I love the yellow flowery one. Sorry I am so late this week - Have a lovely week. Soojay#27
ReplyDeleteIt must be in the Air! - I reorganized my place during the last week till today :) And I think your excuses are just fine. I love the dress you are wearing. WOW! They are so nice.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing!

Hi Lynne, I think we all have that reaction when we start reorganising! The outfits look fabulous, I'm a big fan of velvet, lol. Hope you get your stuff organised as you want it, I think we all feel a need for change occasionally. Stay safe, Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #16 X
ReplyDeleteOh Lynne, I do love your posts and I loved this one with words I use myself - like clobber, shifting and frock. These are part of our dialect so keep 'em coming.
ReplyDeleteHow many times have I started something mammoth and ended up in a corner wondering what the heck I am doing and wishing I could wave a wand and it would all be done or even go back.
Love your new outfits and yes I remember getting sixpence, or a tanner I should say, for my new clothes, especially at Sermons time when it was compulsory to get a new outfit. As I got a bit older the new outfit always included white gloves for some reason - then I was the bees knees. Bet this was similar for you as I wasn't too far away in Britann(ia).
Thanks for the smiles, Hugs, Neet 6 xx
Love your new outfits, you have such good taste :). I quite fancy the velvet jacket! Angela #38
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your workroom makeover will keep you busy for a while ;-) Loving both your new and charity shopped frocks! xxx
ReplyDeleteSorry for the late visit. I love your post! I have muttered the same things when reorganizing rooms/shelves/drawers etc. Your dresses are so pretty and I LOVE the velvet jacket. So fun! Have a fabulous rest of the week. Dorlene #32
