What’s on your Workdesk

Well last week was an exciting one at our desks.  Thank you all for your good wishes and lovely comments, celebrating 11 years of us all chatting, swapping ideas and inspiring one another.  Julia you are amazing keeping us all together, especially now in these immensely troubled times.  Thank you.

As you can see I’m still obsessed with stitching together tiny bits of fabric and making them into little hangings.  My workroom wall is full of them.  I think it’s become my go to thing to relieve tension.  There’s no plan with them I just layer them up as I’m going along.

I’m using twigs to hang them from.

This is a hanging I did sometime ago.

Here’s my book bags. I make them for my very special books to keep them in good order.  I’ve had a long overdue shuffle round of the stuff on display in my workroom.  I dare’nt for shame show you the floor and other areas.  Maybe next week.  That’s if I’m not still stitching bits of fabric haha.

Right that’s me done, I’m off to the local market, we are lucky enough to have a fishmonger, butcher, greengrocer and  baker.  So lots of fresh food and a nice chat with the traders. I don’t do supermarkets at the best of times so there’s no chance of me going now. Take care everyone and I’ll see you next week.

  1. What a fabulous display of hangings Lynn. They look beautiful. We have a local butcher and baker. I haven't been to a supermarket in months. Stay safe and Happy WOYWW. Sarah #7

  2. Love your wall of hangings, what a lovely idea and I especially like the twigs. You know on the twig picture - there is a head on the left - has me intrigued. I would love to know what it is as it appeals to me.
Love your post as always, who else would show themselves with a shopping basket to illustrate them off to the market? I love it, just love it.

    1. Hi Neet
It’s a Canvas by Sue Dove from St Ives. She is in Facebook and Instagram.
We met her when we were on holiday. We all bought a piece of her. So me, mum and my sister are her northern groupies haha

  4. Oh I'm jealous of your market, our butcher looks in the balance unfortunately. Love your shopping outfit, very swish! Your hangings are lovely and I do love the randomness of it all, really works for me!

  5. All so beautiful Lynn, I find it difficult to throw away any scrap of material I sew them by machine or hand onto anything to hand. Your work area walls are so inspiring. Happy WoywW Tracey #16 x

  6. Morning Lynn. My word - either you have been very stressed lately - or those gorgeous wall hangings are the product of many months and years. They are lovely. I particularly like the white fabric one with the blue stitching. I like the little house on the plank of wood, too. Enjoy going to the market - sounds wonderful!
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

  7. Those hangings are so beautiful and if they bring you pleasure while you stitch then keep going. Your studio is always inspiring and I am sure even the remnants on the floor would have the Lynn touch. Stay safe as you create.

  9. I've finished the latest Memory bear so have a little time to pop round my favourite blogs :-)
I love your stress busting stitching Lynn...when we were moving house I knitted squares and it took so long that I managed to make two full sized single blankets :-) :-)

  11. I love your wall of hangings - they look so stunning all hanging together like that. I also love the little random displays like the old books and twigs and the little boat sculpture with the old shuttle - all your treasures are put together with such panache.
Good for you shopping locally - you're lucky to have what you have - we have a small Waitrose and a greengrocer and bakers but I imagine a lot of little shops won't make it through this. Our butchers and fishmongers didn't survive the arrival of Waitrose unfortunately, I'd hate to see the other two go.
Thanks so much for your visit to my other blog - I hope you have a lovely week,

  15. I like your wall hangings, and the book bags are a great idea. There's not a lot on my work desk at the moment, just a few random things for miniature projects. The garden is taking priority at the moment, and I'm doing a bit of drawing.

  16. I just love your hangings, I imagine they'd be as relaxing to do as my boro mending, getting lost in lovely patterns and wonky stitching.
Your outfit is fab, I'm more than a little jealous of you having a market! xxx

  17. I'm loving your hangings and I can see how stitching those fabric scraps can be a relaxing thing to do. I just spent a lovely hour in the garden re-stitching a dropped hem by hand with only the sound of buzzing insects for company. Wonderful! Our market has re-opened last week - it's on Saturday's - but I haven't gone yet as I expect it to be busy! xxx

  18. I love your little hangings, Lynn! They make a beautiful display, and it's lovely to recycle odd bits and pieces and make them into something beautiful, isn't it. If I was able to, I would also go shopping in local shops like you (love the old-fashioned basket with its cover!) but have my groceries delivered from Tesco (when I can get a delivery slot, that is!) or my hubby goes for me. I love market shopping too, and would go like a shot if I could!

    Happy belated WOYWW,

  19. I wish you didn’t need something to release the tension, but I love that the stitching is how you do it! I would imagine that your floor is covered in little tiny bits of thread which is all good...after all, what is a carpet or rug but threads?! Our butcher is so popular now that they’ve opened on a Monday too, am thrilled for them! We don’t have a baker or greengrocers anymore, I miss them. I cant decide which I love more, the hangings or the pleasure in finding the right twigs!
