Roll on summer - woyww

As I’ve nothing to show you on my desk I thought you might like to see this beautiful stitched heart that I bought from very talented friend Carolyn Saxby in St. Ives.  Some of you may know her work.

I’ve propped it up on a shelf in the kitchen, next to a little air plant that I bought in Todmorden, the market town we visit a lot in Yorkshire.  The skirt came from a charity shop there.  See how I’ve matched my outfit with the heart haha !

We will need another trip over the border, as soon as all these storms have stopped, as Todmorden and nearby Hebden Bridge have been badly hit with flooding yet again.  So they will be needing everyone’s support to get them up and running again.

Hope everyone is safe and dry in their homes.  All I can say is thank goodness we live on top of a hill.  If we were flooded I’d be expecting to see Noah and his ark sailing by.

  1. I'm doing a whistle stop tour of all my favourite desks before I make my next Memory bear [and this one is for a very special little girl to take to her new adoptive home...what lovely jobs eh?].
I love Carolyn Saxby's work too so how lovely to own some.
Thank you for your lovely comment today.
    Hugs,

  2. Oh my life, its so difficult to watch all those poor folk going through it all again, my heart bleeds for them. The weather up your way sounds truly foul, to be honest, here on the Wiltshire border we’ve had cold high winds and a lot of rain but I do feel we get away with it most times. We live on chalk and some/many aquifers in this area, so flooding is largely prevented, although our little patches of garden are like a bog, but its nothing, is it. I WAS unaware of Caroline Saxby and now I have to go visit and put all over her works too. Honestly, you’re as much an enabler as any of the stampers!

  3. We've had the burn of the gales down here but not the flooding - I feel for these communities so much, they've got so much to clear up. Everyone's support will be essential.
I adore the stitched heart, goodness it's gorgeous and reminds me of the little models made out of driftwood and found items by Trysorau Cymraeg..I am the proud owner of one of them, I love it so much and even though it's not fabric, the colours and ideas are very similar.
I wish you could have come and chatted and crafted, a surefire way to beat the blues.

  4. Hi Lynn, the flooding is awful, I do feel for those poor people, especially as it happens time after time. We too live at the top of a hill, and I said that if ever we find ourselves flooded, it means that the whole of Redditch is buried beneath a lake! Love the stitched heart- gorgeous. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #1 X

  5. Hi Lynn, so sad to see those affected by the storms and floods, they have been a little close to home recently. I really don't know how people cope with it time after time.
Beautiful heart, there's something quite lovely about textile work, wish I had more time to create things like this.. maybe in retirement.

  7. Haven't come across Carolyn's work before, but my goodness it's beautiful, and you have a gorgeous piece of it to treasure. Chuckling at the notion of dressing to match one's favourite ornaments...

  8. Love the little heart - having come from Twiglets blog it reminded me of her Twiddle Mitt.
Yes, Todmorden and Hebden Bridge have suffered badly but so did Ramsbottom and Strongstry which are very close to us. I think I mentioned in my log that I am going to see if there is somewhere I can donate some stuff to, and then I will find things that can replace bits of what they have lost. Heartbreaking and unbelievable to watch on TV.

  11. Love the heart, Lynn. It's so beautifully designed and made, and a lovely reminder of seaside holidays. The flooding is so tragic. When we lived in Manchester we enjoyed driving out to Todmorden and Hebden Bridge. My heart goes out to everyone affected. Luckily, we live far enough from the river that passes through our town to be out of danger. Elizabeth x #26

  12. These are such sad photographs, feel so sorry for the people that live there and quite angry that the government haven't done more to avoid this. Your heart however made me feel a little better, it's gorgeous. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x16x

  15. How awful for the people who have been flooded Lynn. I had a friend at uni who was from Hebden Bridge and even though I haven't seen her in years still think about her whenever it is in the news. Gorgeous heart, a very talented artist indeed. Happy belated WOYWW. Sarah #8

  18. Loving that air plant (much healthier than mine!) and how your fabulous outfit perfectly coordinates with your fabulous outfit.
We had no idea about all these floods until we landed in Birmingham on Monday night only to discover that the entire West Mids train network was under water and we had to pay £40 for a taxi home. Nightmare! xxx

  19. Hi Lynn, so sad to hear about the flooding. We need to visit the place and buy some stuff from their markets, hopefully that should help them get up and running. "If we were flooded I’d be expecting to see Noah and his ark sailing by" you are funny! Stay awesome, and do share more such wonderful experiences of your life. Your writing is fun to read.
