Oh eck ! There’s not a desk insight ....... WOYWW

Oh eck ! It’s Wednesday and although it’s been a busy

week since our last desk hopping meet up with Julia, I’ve

already blogged about what I’ve been upto so I’m a

bit short on desk pics sorry.

I can show you the beautiful mosaic heart I received yesterday.

It’s a gift from my sister in Oxford who I haven’t seen since October.

I’ve joined the No Rules Textile Society, an online group

set up by textile artist Jayne Emerson.

NO RULES TEXTILE SOCIETY

We had our first online meeting on Saturday and had been asked

to put together a mood board to work out our style.

I’ve worked out I’m  a visionary, meaning I like to see things

on display.  Like on open shelves, on hangers, peeping out of

containers etc.  If you’ve ever visited our house you’ll have

seen for yourself.

I was pretty impressed with my zooming skills as I’ve only

ever done Pilates classes online.  See you can teach an old dog new tricks.

Goodness knows what the other members thought of my broad Lancashire accent.

Here’s my zoom face haha.

I’ll have something to show next week as we have a

monthly project and the prompt for this month is 

TUFTED

All I could think of at the time was Tufty the squirrel.

Hope you’re all doing ok and staying positive.

The sun has got his hat on this week and there

are signs of new growth in the ground.

Sunday has flowed into Monday

I donned my new frock for its first outing.

It’s made by a small company who make one-offs or small limited edition clothing.

Recycled and remade in the UK.

THE WELL WORN

No fancy restaurants again this year for Mother’s Day.

Instead I went to pick up afternoon tea trays from our favourite farm shop & tearoom.

The wandering welder scrubbed up for an afternoon

spent with his mother in law

And here she is complete with her Mother’s Day flowers

from her youngest who is down the other end of the country

in Oxford.

Keeping the air miles down, Jill had ordered the flowers from

local florist FUNKY FLORAL who are literally five minutes 

from Mum’s front door.  Mum was quite smitten by the young man

who delivered them.

The evening was spent watching the final of the Great Pottery

Throw down, Countryfile and Top Gear.

MONDAY

For the first time in days we’ve got sunshine and blue skies.

I’m so glad as we had to go out on important business today

and it needed a bright day to go along with the job in hand.

There’s been a special request for more pictures of Mr Dapper

chap,  so here you go Kathryn.  You’ve got two today haha.

Oh, and he said to say hello to you and what a great job you all

did on the afternoon tea trays.

On the way home we stopped off at the cemetery to collect

the planters off Auntie Gladys grave, ready to fill them with

spring colour for the first anniversary of her passing. This

tiny snowdrop was right by the side where her name is.

She always could make anything grow anywhere.

There was a bit of garden tidying to finish off the afternoon

and tonight we will be tuning into the ITV series Forgotten later.

Hope everyone’s week has got off to a good start and there’s

been some sun to make you smile.

Zooming in on a few things

lots of other like minded folk’

I’m now a member of the No Rules Textile Society set up by textile artist

Jayne Emerson.

Saturday was the first meeting of the society.  It felt like a day out.  I did my hair,

applied a bit of slap and picked out a cheery outfit for the occasion.

The wandering welder said have you done your mood board yet.

No said I,  I’ve got to get myself ready first.  After all this will be the most

folk I’ve seen in months.

After a lovely introduction, Jayne chatted about the aim of the group

and how it would work.  Then we did a show and tell about the

mood boards we’d been asked to prepare.  The boards consist of things

that hopefully show our style and things that appeal to us.

It was so nice to get to know new people and form a new community.

Every month we will receive a word prompt that will dictate the project

we will be working on.

So this month the prompt is Tufted.  It’s a bit of a tough one for our first

attempt.  I’m sure we were all groaning behind the muted zoom images.

An hour and half later, fired up ready to get started, I looked

round the house for tufted objects for inspiration and found

the coconut pan scrub in the kitchen, an old paint brush and

a coil of stranded wire, along with some textured wool, string

raffia paper.

I’ve stripped down the cork wall boards I use as inspiration boards and I’m loading them up

with all my finds.  I don’t think Philip was impressed when I tried to nab the bath mat and threatened to

cut it up to work into.  I did say I’d get him another.

For now that’s as far as I’ve got. Mother’s Day on Sunday and Mum is coming for afternoon tea.

Not made by me may I add.  I’ve bought her Amanda Owen, the Yorkshire Shepherdess latest book.

I didn’t know she writes a monthly piece for the Yorkshire Dalesman magazine.

This book is a compilation of the columns that have been published.

It’s so nice to have like minded friends

The kindness of friends 

This amazing parcel arrived on Thursday morning from a dear

and talented friend in Montgomery in the Welsh county of Powys.

 Me and the wandering welder grinned at each other when we

spotted the Welsh cakes.

Then he said ‘Look what it says on the mug. You’re always

saying you’d love to live next door to Tina’.

Further unwrapping led to lots of oohing and aahing over the

hand stitched fabric box, made with vintage fabrics in Boro

stitching.  It’s amazing, we examined every inch of it.

Inside each little item was wrapped in old pattern paper and we

held our breathe over each piece.  A tiny handmade needle case,

a tiny pin cushion made from an antique miniature tart tin, a stitch

picker, a card of  exquisite buttons, a super thimble with lovely

markings and finally a pair of embroidery scissors in a hand stitched

case that matches the fabric

As we unwrapped each piece we realised that it was a

travel sewing case.  

One I will be taking with me when we eventually get to see and spend

time with our lovely friend.  Thank you Tina, I know you will be reading this.

More loveliness arrived in the form of these embellishments

from another friend and textile artist Viv Sliwka.

I made quick use of them by adding them to the fabrics sample

pieces I’ve made from scrap fabrics.

This online textile course I’m doing is really getting me back

into experimenting and learning new things.



I’ve ordered an afternoon tea tray for Mother’s Day from

long way home so that Mum gets a change of scenery. Then

it’ll be tea and a film and a few presents.

Whatever you are doing on Sunday be kind to yourself

and those around you.
