Salt & Pepper Pot Table Arrangements

 Look what we made at Sunnybank Day Centre Craft Club

 We used salt & pepper pots that I got from Wilkinsons for £1.50 set, cake decorating sugar balls, a bit of knitting wool, some imitation flowers, a cut up crotchet mat and some paper flowers and butterflies. http://www.wilko.com/

Susan gave us some of her wonderful factoids, this week they were about AUGUST.

Birthstone - Peridot.   Flower - Gladioli & Poppy.

The Anglo Saxons called it Weed Month as its the month when weeds grow most rapidly.

1st August is Lammas day marking the beginning of harvest.

Why shouldnt you tell a secret on a farm ?

Because the corn has ears and the potatoes have eyes.

6th August 1762 - The Earl of Sandwich asked for meat to be served between slices of bread  hence the sandwich was invented.

13th August 1941 - last person to be hanged at the Tower of London

(also my birthday, not the year just the day)

28th August 1963 - Martin Luther King made his famous "I have a dream" speech

Ladies In Lavender & the Eiffel Tower......

The Sunnybank craft group led by Susan made LAVENDER SATCHETS today.

 Using a plain envelope, a butterfly stamp and gel pens members coloured in the butterfly.

Next up we pricked holes in the envelopes and put in a couple of tablespoons of lavender before sealing them on the back.  We added a bit of sellotape to make it more secure.

Harold did one for his lady friend Peggy who lives in Blackpool. We all laughed as the little animal stickers he put on said "Take me home" and "Cuddle me".  Wonder what Peggy will think of that.  Harold is in his 80's.

Pat, one of the care assistants, helped Mona make hers so I quickly made one for her with a Doodly Bird on.

 

Along with Susan's factoids on SUMMER it was another great session.  Im not sure that I believe the one she told us about the Eiffel Tower being taller in Summer than in Winter.  I will leave that one with you.

 Last time at the Sunnybank Day Centre craft group we covered jam jars with torn tissue paper, napkins and fabric.  Some members used them to put flowers in, others pens and pencils.

 This week we did a favourite craft of making coasters using cut up pictures out of magazines.

 The results are always great.

Friday catch up.......

The lovely weather led to a trip in my 10 year old VW beetle

 to our 15 year old static caravan up in the Lake District

where we had a wonderfully relaxing time.

Once back home it was time for a tidy and rearrange of the studio. Just in time before visitors arrived and bought this for their holiday home in Whitby.

 Dont be fooled by all the work on the wall some of it needs finishing.
