LINO PRINTING WORKSHOP no. 2

Lucy Bishop held the second of her Lino Printing Workshops on Saturday and we had people coming in from all over North West England and what a nice and talented group they were. I didnt join in this week, instead playing host and chief brewer.   Ive crammed as many images in as I can, so that you will see everything they did.

Jo Pritchard came from Liverpool and brought us all a name badge which she had made herself. She showed us how to scratch our names into the board and how to enhance the design by scratching round the images.  What a lovely way to start our day.  Jo was a natural at lino cutting, look at the fabulous dragonflies on the bag she printed. 

Annette came from Prestwich with her friend Anna and printed some beautiful almost 3D butterflies on her bag.  I love her bird design with an apple on its head.

 

Anna did an Angie Lewin type design on her bag and did a block print similar to the one I did last week. Her bag has a nice layout.

 

I love these lino cuts by Carol they are so beautifully done.

She also brought her handmade Journal along to show us.

  Barbara Jepson did some lovely Christmas tags
I like how she experimented printing onto black paper and layering up stamps

 

and then made this tea towel with a great contemporary design using black and brown fabric paints.

 John Wolfenden from Littleborough created this wonderful tree lino cut and printed it onto a cotton tea towel.  In the past he has done a stain glass course and showed us this great image by using the lino print on the acetate he was using to roll out his paint.  I missed the little owl you did John.

It was a fantastic day and I met some lovely people.

 Lucy Bishop's lino printing workshop was a great success yesterday at Castleton, Rochdale.

 

Everyone taking part thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gillian was a natural too and you could see she brought her talent for zentangling into her flower and leaf designs

We even managed to bring a bit of a Christmas theme into it

What would a workshop be without a pile of books to look through while you have a cuppa

The day was made even more lively by a stream of visitors dropping in to see what we were upto.

Next Saturday Lucy holds another session with participants coming from Liverpool, Bolton, Blackpool amongst other places.  So it is sure to be another great day.  I will be there me making lots of cups of tea and coffee.

I'm really excited to see what people are going to do.

Yesterday Lucy Bishop the THE LEFT HANDED CRAFTER (LINK)
held a Linocut Printing Workshop where we made these tea towels.
WOAD BUTTERFLY SHOP  - Lucy's shop

Its quite a fascinating process. First we did a sketch on paper then traced it onto soft lino.  Next using the cutters we went round the lines and then made more detailed cuts to complete the design.

After cutting out the shape you then ink it up and press it into your paper or whatever surface you are printing on to.  You can wash the print block clean and then use different colours.

Inking up the leaf itself gave a great print.

Karen went for a leaf design which was inspired by all the leaves that Lucy brought in as design ideas.

 We had a great day and can't wait to do it again.

Lucy is planning on holding another workshop soon.  If anyone is interested let me know. It will be held in the Rochdale area of Lancashire. 
 Workshops cost £20 including all materials and run from 10-4pm. Bring a pack lunch or there is a great confectioners next door.
