How things change ....

I have been that taken up with the latest member of our family
Princess Kikki
that I have forgotten to photograph and catalogue the orders I've sent out.

Kikki wondered if she was a bit of a Doodly Bird look-a-like
Then thought it might be fun to sit in one of my bags
and have a bit of a nod.
I did remember to photograph the books I sent upto Scotland
and the bags that went down to Surrey.
Still time for some Christmas orders

Never boil an Ostrich Egg.....

After receiving these two lovely felt brooches as a gift from Judy in Australia
Link to Judy's blog
I thought how nice it would be to make them at Sunnybank Craft Club.
Mrs Shaw as elegant as ever
We started our session with Susan's wonderful FACTOIDS and here are some of the gems she came up with on BIRDS

1.  If you are in a rush for your breakfast don't choose an Ostrich egg to have with your toasted
soldiers, as they take TWO HOURS to boil.
2.  Flamingoes are pink because they eat carotene rich brine shrimps.
We ladies could use that as an excuse for our hot flushes
3.  The bird with the foulest smelling nest is the Eurasian Hoopone.  Their nests contain vast
amounts of faeces which puts of predators.  Now there's a thought. !
4.  Woodpeckers can peck 20 times per second.  The don't get headaches as their
skulls have air pockets to cushion the brainNo good for headache tablet sales  then !
5.  Charmaine the homing pigeon lost an eye and a leg during the First World War and was
given the Distinguished Service Cross and a wooden leg.

 Pat and Lily
We didnt have time to add birdy legs but the brooches were still a huge success.

NOW
Remember the Canvas Bags I did for the Sue Ryder Charity, well I have sold them all.  So I have now found a UK based family run company who buy them from ethically run/fair trade suppliers and they are availale in THREE different sizes.

Mini Canvas Bag £8  + £2.50 pp (overseas ask for price)
Why I am telling you dear reader is because £1 from each bag is going to my favourite charity
Sunnybank Day Centre, where we have our Craft Club.

You can find the bags in the Doodly Bird Store
