WOYWW week 667. - The men in white coats

Hello fellow desk hoppers and blog readers.  Thanks for dropping by.

How do you like this brooch that is not a brooch.  Well at least not yet.  It was a sample piece I made
for the water soluble fabric course I’m on.  It was pinned to the display wall in my studio and messing
about I shoved it on the front of my pinafore. What you can’t see is the pin that is holding it on and
sticking in my boob.  Hope I don’t pop heehee.

There’s been a couple of ‘Oops’ moments this week through either daydreaming or singing my
head off while creating.

Instead of stitching water soluble fabric to this tweed wool, I totally was not paying attention and
used baking parchment.  Not to be deterred I just cut through it to show the fabric underneath.

Then after using the correct stuff I put this piece in the oven to dry, forgot about it and scorched
it. The wandering welder will be sending for the men in white coats to haul me away any more
of it. Never mind the fact I stank the kitchen out and had to open all the windows.

Moving on I made a fabric bowl with the threads pulled from this scrap piece.
Below is the bowl before I dissolved the water soluble fabric and shaped it.

Well that’s me done for this week folks.
Sometimes I surprise myself in what I create.
See you all next week.

Lynn

Thanks again Annie for the lovely card and lace.
And in answer to your question Julia about where all the stuff from the blue shibori wall
has gone. It’s in a box file ready for its next outing.

  1. Your creativity knows no bounds - I love that whopper of a corsage brooch even if it did take a few ttempts to get it right and as for the bowl, stunning! xxx
PS I see you've got that gorgeous Toast model pinned up as inspiration.

  2. love the oversize brooch, Esmeralda from Sewing Bee would approve heartily! Love what you’ve been doing with the water soluble whatsit, the creations are fab! You made me laugh about leaving it in the oven for too long though…probably what I’d have done as well, you’re in good company, believe me!

  3. Shame about the scorching. I would love to see your bowls for real and feel the texture. I guess I will have to buy some water soluble fabric and try it myself! Happy WOYWW and have a great week, Angela #13

  4. morning Lynn. Oh my - I'm really sorry, but I am sitting here in fits of laughter - baking parchment, scorched fabric... it takes me back to my city and guild days, when using a soldering iron on almost anything except solder was de riguer!!! I totally ruined my hubby's iron - he had to go buy a new one to use.
However! The end results in each case are great! I just love that bowl. I'm doing a Crafternoon with Cam at church in a couple of weeks, and we are actually planning on making a 3-D silk paper bowl. Such fun to do, and something folk can take home with them and hopefully repeat.
    Take care. God bless.

  5. Oh Lynn - I am so glad it's not just me who does daft things!! Your post really made me laugh. I think it's because we "plate spin" and have so many things on the go at once. I love the big flower "brooch" - we both have been dealing with big things this week! xx Jo

  8. Don’t worry, he knows you so well that I bet the wandering welder didn’t even blink! Loved your mistakes this week, I can only assume that the water soluble stuff is dry and crackly like the parchment then…this surprised me! Every day’s a school day! A box file full of Shibori….soun good to me…and easy to transport when you get up the nerve to publicly display some of your works…find a gallery that likes textiles…

  10. I love the flowers you've been making and I really like the scorched one too - it has a vintage look! I had to laugh about you leaving it in the oven - I don't allow myself to use the grill nowadays as I get so easily distracted and have had a couple of near disasters! The bowl is beautiful, I love those colours.
Hope you have a lovely week and don't go pop!

  14. Your creations may not have come from the "usual" or "normal" way of doing things but they are still fabulous! Well except the pin in your boob. OUCH! Even the burnt item looks quite interesting, although the smell, I bet not so much....
    Happy late-in-the-day WOYWW

  15. Oh my giddy aunt Lynn ... how special it is pinned to your dress ( though not that it's nipping yooou) absolutely stunning ⭐🌈❤ love that you sing with a head full of daydreams too ... good for the soul ... no matter how it was achieved your work is pure joy to see ... though I've often forgot about coffee stained bits in the oven and know that whiff in the air very well ... but .. I'm loving the look of it. Wishing you a gorgeous week ahead in all you do .. as I type I'm sliding back up to look at your brooch again in all it'sglory... just love it so.
