Oxford we’ve loved you

No desk again this week, just me doing a bit of mindless stitching in my sister’s
back garden while she does a bit of dead heading.

One thing about being away from home is there is no “I should be doing”
this, that or t’other

Its more doing what you want when you want.
Starting with Kefir yoghurt and fresh fruit pancake for breakfast sat outside
listening to the birds.

The last day of our little break was a second visit to Burford Garden Centre.
Philip insisted we park next to this beauty so he could give it a good coat of looking at.

We had another lovely lunch, bought Jill some plants for her garden
and I finished off with a look round their beautiful reading room bookshop.
That alone is worth a visit.  I came across a book written by a friend’s husband
who sadly died in an accident a few months ago.

Thinking of you Gilly. I’ve now got a memory of Christopher on
our bookshelf.

Yesterday we made our journey back up north stopping off to see
our lovely friends Vix and Jon in Walsall on the way up.

It’s ages since we last saw them and it was so good to be in their
company once again and to take a look round at what they’d done to
their beautiful home and garden during lockdown.

Now they are getting ready for their first festival in a couple of weeks
down in Dorset.

Philip was gifted a fantastic Charles Church custom made jacket
from the Kinky Melon’s vintage stock.  I’ll get a picture of him wearing
it later

After a couple of cups of tea and cake, a walk round the neighbourhood
admiring the beautiful houses, we set off on the last part of our journey.

We made it back in time to stop off at the local chip shop for
a chippy tea before beginning the task of unpacking the car
and putting everything away.

It’s been a fabulous week away, lovely to be back at my sister’s,
the first time since 2017.  We’ve had a blast meeting up with Instagram
friends, visiting some lovely places in Oxford and finally seeing
Vix and Jon again.  Roll on the next time.

And all done in my sturdy stead, 18 year old VW beetle Frida.
Well done old lass, you’re a star

Have a good week everyone.

  3. Well that does look like a lovely week! I long to see my sister IRL as FT and Zoom just don't replace seeing her in person. We love Burford but it's been ages since we've been... well, ANYWHERE really. M&S for my daughter's bra fitting is about the most exciting trip we have planned LOL!Lovely to have found a copy f your friend's book - and so special your sister gifted it to you. I love her garden. Gorgeous and well kept, unlike out own chaotic overgrown mess. Ah well...one day.

Happy WOYWW, getting an early start

  4. It was absolutely fabulous to see you both yesterday (and Frida)!
What a wonderful week you had. I think the next time your sister comes up and stays with you she ought to rent her house out to us - although she'd have trouble getting us to leave.
That TR6 is a beaut - what a colour! No wonder Philip was enamoured. We can't wait to see him rockin' his new jacket! xxx

  6. What a brilliant time away you have had and bet your sister was pleased to see you too. You are so right that when you're not at home all the guilt disappears thinking you should be doing stuff. Well done to Frida too, my old girl has a very big birthday next year as she will be 50! Have a lovely woyww. Hugs Angela x9x

  7. What a wonderful week you've had, culminating in your visit to Vix & Jon on your way home. It must have been lovely to see them again after all this time!
Your sister's garden is absolutely delightful, and you are right: not having to attend to this, that and t' other while you're away from home might be one of the best things ever! xxx

  9. What a lovely post, Lynn. I am so glad you've had such a good time away, and there's nothing like a bit of "doing what you want, when you want," is there! My singing teacher used to say one of the worst diseases was "hardening of the oughteries" lol!! How brilliant to meet up with Vix too. I love her blog and I would love to meet her one day! Your sister's garden is fabulous, and what a delicious looking breakfast! I shall have to think about having pancakes for breakfast...

    Happy WOYWW,

  11. Your trip sounds marvellous with lots of fun included. I have family in Oxfordshire but have never been there. Big mistake - should have gone years ago, and now it may be too late. And such a bonus that you were able to meet up with friends again, and fund that book, a lovely memento of your late friend. Hope this week doesn't seem disappointing after all that. Elizabeth x #24
