Sunshine and tears

July you have been a month of flowers, happiness
and smiles tinged with sadness.

I’ve hand stitched and machine sewn
and learnt new things along the way

Sketching, printing, flower pressing, different techniques
for making textile samples, free machine embroidery and

The sun has had his hat on so there’s been time spent
in the garden

There’s been a return to the caravan and a catch up
with friends and for Mum to have a little holiday in her favourite
place Grange Over Sands.

A chance to see the Grayson Perry tapestries

It’s been a month for the country to open its doors
again and for us to take the masks off if we want to
in public places

It’s been lovely to see goddaughter Sofia graduate
after all her hard work and for her to be starting her
career in September

And our beautiful niece leaves school to move on
to college and a future in teaching like her Mum.

July you’ve given us some lovely memories.
My final one is tinged with sadness as we remember
our friend Sandy.  We have hearts full of the times
we spent together. So we will smile as we think of

  1. Hi Lynn, lovely post today. Sorry to hear about your friend but it's good to think back at the great times you had together. You might know that the stitching attracted me and it's looking lovely. Hope you keep it up when the course is over. Wishing you a lovely weekend, Angela xXx

  2. Looks like you have had a wonderful month looking at all your photos. Your niece and goddaughter both look stunning. That's a lot of brains put together! lol.
So good you have been able to go to the caravan again and meet old friends.
I love all the flowers. And clever that drawing, by the way, without lifting your pencil. Very clever.
The Grayson Perry tapestry looks amazing. Was there only the one or were there more? Actually, I've just googled it. I assume it is in Sunderland the exhibition. And I saw several. Wow! One can look at them for a long time and still 'see' new things. He's a genius. I can understand you were enthusiastic.
That's a lovely picture of your friend Sandra. She looks like she was a lovely lady. You obviously shared your love of vintage clothing.
    Have a great weekend,
    Take care,

  3. What a fab lot of photos this week. It’s good to focus on the happy memories of friends when we’ve lost them isn’t it?
Hope you enjoy your stay in the caravan.
    Annie x

  4. What a lovely celebration of July. Very sad to read about Sandy but wonderful news about your lovely girs and, as always, I'm in awe of your creative talents. That photo of you and your friend is just lovely!
Have a lovely weekend, both! Here's to a dry day very soon! xxx

  5. You've been a real busy bee this past month, haven't you? I'm loving your creative endeavours as always. It does seem you had more sunshine than we did, though. So sorry to hear about your friends, but I'm glad there were some happy occasions for you as well. xxx

  6. That is a lovely month of memories. You made good use of your time in semi lock-down. I guess there are always some lows to balance out the highs, but still some happy memories to hold on to. Kate x
