We are weighing things up

Me and my friend Jan have weighed up it’s time to ditch the sweeties before our teeth drop out and the elastic holding our  trousers together snaps.

So we’ve dragged out the scales of shame, made some pretty cards to record our progress and organised our menus for the week.

I don’t do dieting, wouldn’t know a calorie or sin if I fell over it. So I’m knocking off the cakes, biscuits and sweeties for a bit and revisiting my lovely cook books, like this Sally Bee one I got for £1.75 in a charity shop.

We always eat well at meal times anyway, it’s all the other stuff that’s caused the weight gain.  I’m up a dress size, my bra is sticking in me and I’ve got heartburn with all the fats.

When the wandering welder came home with these, after helping a friend with her house move, I had to tell myself they tasted of dog pooh to stop me diving right in.

Here’s my chuckle for Annie’s Friday Smiles.

This one reminds me of the wandering welder.  He’s a Virgo you know and likes to get to the bottom of things and be thorough.

Have a good weekend everyone and take good care of yourselves.

  3. I just went to the doctor and haven't been on a scale since the whole lock down started and was shocked by the number as well ~ I knew things were getting tighter but ~ wow ~ I'll be joining you on the road to recovery. My weakness is chips and crackers not so much the sweets oh and wine like your first funny :) Blessings to you!

  4. My friend and I were going to the gym three times a week before the lockdown and although I am still doing some exercise and the scales don't show much in the way of gain I am aware that some clothes are tighter than usual so I think the muscle I gained has turned to something else! so might have to join the club! Very much enjoyed your funnies too. Happy weekend, Angela xXx

  5. I'm very fortunate in that due to Covid, I seem to have lost weight rather than gained any. Not that I know my weight, as I don't even own scales, but I noticed that some of my clothes seemed to fit me better. Not sure how long it's going to last, though. I've never dieted in my life and I've never been to the gym either. Knocking off the cakes, biscuits and other snacks has always done it for me. Those funnies made me chuckle and you telling yourself those Quality Street chocs taste like dog poo even more so :-)) xxx

    1. Well done Ann in keeping a good balance on your weight. I’d be a rubbish dieter, it’s so much easier to cut out the cakes and snacks. Everything in moderation is my mantra xxx

  6. Yes, I think we're all at that 'bursting' point. I too need to urgently lose some weight. But that's not going to happen until we are back from our little holiday next week.
I had to laugh at your funnies, especially the one of the car mechanic.
I enjoyed your top photo with the sweets on it. I remember Sherbets. It reminds me of our English holidays as a child. Sherbet was not available in Holland and we'd never had it, but once tasted, we were hooked. I also remember the Rowntree's fruit gums. The Chupa Chups lollies are Spanish and the children here still eat them and the wrapper hasn't changed at all.
Ok, I think I have put on a pound just drooling over those sweets!
    Have a lovely weekend,
    Keep smiling,
    Hugs,
    Lisca

  7. hello same here, I did lose 5 kg at the start of the year but damn covid. And in japan there is so much seasonal goodness that it is hard to resist!! Mango Coca Cola and it tastes the bomb as does melon soda.
And don’t get me started on mister donut!! But apart from that I do eat pretty healthy and it helps that I have a coco allergy.
Paul is the same as your better half, he took my motorbike appart to find out what was making a squeak, it stIll squeaks! Damn engineers!! Can’t live with them can’t live without out them.

    1. We are healthy eaters as well, I’ve just been snacking in between meals. The wandering welder is a jammy begger he eats what he wants and has been the same weight since leaving school. His older brother is the same.
You made me laugh with the engineers comment haha x

  8. We eat pretty well too, and I don't even bake all that often now, but the local bread bought hot from the shop round the corner, is my undoing. Laughed at the two funnies. Good luck with being sensible. Kate xx
