After a weekend of summer frocks and social distanced meet ups with friends and neighbours, this week we are back to rain, wind and the heating back on.. Its proper grim up north.
Iris Lavender my charity shop rescued primitive doll won’t be needing her watering can anytime soon.
Wednesday’s have turned into the day we go to our local market for fresh fruit & veg, fish, meat and a chance for a chat with the traders. It’s so nice that we have all got to know each other. It might be difficult to natter when we all start having to wear masks though.
We can’t come home without buying something for lunch from our favourite bakery which has moved shop and had a revamp. Almond slice for Philip and a piece of spice cake for me.
Today we popped into a new shop that opened one day before lockdown. The owner makes high quality handmade clothes and was thrilled to bits that we had called in to say how much we admired her window display and shop. We left mulling over ideas for having some of our clobber restyled.
I’m starting this book today. It’s about the author’s adventures busking from Norway to Portugal. It’s quite an emotional read as was her other book Homesick - Why I live in a shed. I think she is one brave person living the life she does. In many ways she is quite a solitary person.
I am still waiting for the libraries to reopen as I have a stack of books to return and so I decided to buy the books that I had on my amazon birthday wish list for next month.
Nearly forgot about my desk and what I’ve been doing. Well not a lot really, just a bit more stitching of the book bag I’m making for my 1894 autograph album.
Keep safe everyone and don't forget to take your mask out with you
See you soon
Lynn

There's always something interesting to look at on your desk and in your life - themarket sounds great, we have two good ones fairly locally so we try to go and support our local traders too. That's a very eclectic reading selection you have there, perfect way to spend a dreech day, I reckon!

Our weather's not been up to scratch either, and although it's not as grim or cold here, like Iris Lavender I haven't been wielding my watering can very much. That view of your favourite bakery had me salivating. I'm loving the sound of your current book and that book bag you're making for your album is gorgeous! xxx
ReplyDeleteI’ve had the heating on again Ann. Ridiculous for July. I like our Wednesday shopping trip out now and I’ve declared Wednesday afternoons as
Deletecosy time. Stitching, a film or book or doing nothing. It’s become my new norm.
Lots of love to you xxx
A lovely uplifting post Lynn. Your album cover will be such a little work of art - well worth taking time over. xx Jo
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, dull, overcast and much cooler here in the Midlands too. The bakery looks amazing, all my good intentions would be straight out of the window, lol. We have a small market here in Redditch, to be honest it's really nothing to get excited about, needs a good overhaul. The old market we used to have was much more varied, but the council was terrible at supporting it, and it gradually faded away. Stay Safe, have a lovely week, hugs, Shaz #7 X
ReplyDeleteSaturday is our day to pop to the greengrocers and then come back via the bakery! The album cover is looking lovely so far. Happy WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#1)
ReplyDeleteit's been very dull here today - but was inside at work so it didn't really matter! been wearing masks when shopping all the time so it will make no difference to me. take care and have a good week. Helen #17
ReplyDeleteNot been out shopping, keeping to medical only appointments until i have been in hospital. They did say to kind of isolate until the op. Envy you the market, is it in Whitworth or Rochdale? My cousin used to live in Ramsbottom and they had a local market which I think is great, in a town it seems not quite the same.
ReplyDeleteKeep enjoying your local shopping and let us know if you have any clothes remodelled - by pictures of course.
Hugs, Neet 4 xx
Hi Neet
DeleteThe market is in Bacup and on Saturdays we go to Todmorden. I’ve been to the Ramsbottom one as well. I don’t go down to Rochdale and we don’t have one in Whitworth.
Philip wants to have a jacket remodelled, so
I’m sure we will be back there next week.
Look after yourself missus xxx
Lots of great photos. Looks like you’ve had a great week. Thanks for your earlier visit. Take care. Dorlene #31
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is lovely and your slow stitching is gorgeous. Just the thing when the weather isn't playing nicely.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking the idea of having your clothes remodeled, that's proper green.
The book sounds really interesting.
Those lovely market traders will know you're smiling behind your masks, I bet you're their favourite people! xxx
Thanks Vix. The dress is a Seasalt one I bought new last year. It’s one I seem to slip on a lot. It doesn’t even mind me lounging round in it. No creasing and rarely needs a wash.
DeleteWe were really impressed at the clothes the lady has made. She had a winter coat in the window that she had made from heavy curtain material and a matching one for a little girl. She’s not expensive either. Philip is going to try her with a jacket he wants revamping.
We are enjoying our trips to market it’s become the new norm xxx
we have a lot of local traiders, there are a lot of small malls, shops in japan are weird, you either have to look up to find a place or it is under your feet in a subnade. But you get a better more personal service I don’t really go to a big supermarket like you have at home. Infact they tend to scare me.
ReplyDeleteTo much under one roc and the quality isn’t there. I know the baker , the fish and sushi men and women very well.
We have a genius young tailor who can alter a pair of men’s work dickies to fit a Japanese girls body I watch him work and what he does is so simple yet effective, removing a collar of a mans shirt to give it a new life.
Yes the package has come Paul is currently unpacking 3 and cleaning them and putting them into crates and he won’t let me look.my Hair is newly cropped and I feel a lot happier.
Don’t worry you can still hold a conversation with a mask, you will forget it is there eventually. We have used them for years.
Glad your packages arrived. Hooray to you getting your hair done. I’m having some colour on today. I only have it done 3-4 times a year to stop the grey bits being wiry.
DeletePhilip is thinking of having a jacket revamped so we will see how the lady does with that and then I’ll take some stuff in.
Enjoy your goodies xx
Your slow stitching looks so relaxing and almost meditative. Sounds like you had a lovely time at your local market, it is definitely a good move to purchase goods that are sourced locally. That would be one thing COVID has taught me - support local small business. Keep safe as you create and I hope the sun comes our for you.

Loved reading your interesting post - so much to see, and I now have another book on my reading list!
ReplyDeleteStay safe and keep well! Happy woyww! Susan #15
Thanks Susan that’s very kind of you. I’m halfway through the book and enjoying it x
DeleteLovely projects in your world as always, Lynn, and I'm glad you managed to get out and about to do some shopping. I do hope they don't make us wear face masks - I can't bear anything over my face, and I also hate not being able to see people's faces and their expressions. There's plenty of evidence out there that the face masks don't actually do much good anyway. Too many different opinions altogether. Fortunately I don't get out shopping too often and by the time I next go, I hope things will have got back to normal.
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting, and for your very kind words!! I does me best... I'm glad you enjoyed my modelling session this week! I got a new Indian skirt from Ebay today and will probably model that next week. As for the carpet, do you want it going up the stairs as well? Lol!! Working at 22 stitches per inch, it might take me rather a long time though, at least till the end of the lockdown lol!!
Happy belated WOYWW,
Shoshi x #8
That new shop sounds just up your street Lynn, glad you finally had a chance to visit. I must admit I look forward to libraries reopening too. Cool book bag! Stay safe and happy belated WOYWW. Sarah #5
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn, sorry I'm late just got distracted with stuff this week. My memories of living at Aston In Makerfield was that it was either raining, it had rained or it was going to rain but it's a bit different here in Lincolnshire. Have a lovely crafty weekend and a happy belated WOYWW, Angela x14x
ReplyDeleteI'm woefully late, I'm so sorry, don't seem to have gotten around to even putting the computer on till today!!
ReplyDeleteLoving your book bag it is so pretty
Tail between legs, BJ#21
Just this very second finished it. I’ll post some pics on Wednesday x
