There’s been tears

I set the wandering welder a task this week to paint up this old canary cage for me.

During lockdown we have been entertaining passersby with little garden gate displays. There’s also a box of sweets and biscuits, a bowl of water and treats for the dogs and usually something interactive for the children.

This week I set up a little message tree.  Inside the writing case on Big Ted’s knee there are pens and tags for the children to write on and then tie there message onto a branch.

We live on a country lane that leads onto several moorland walks so there’s been a lot of families walking by.  I’ve got to be on the ball setting up in the morning as there have been children in tears when it’s not been there.

Apart from wet weather days we’ve set something up every day since the start of the lockdown.

The canary cage is painted up, now it’s time to work some magic with a bit of wallpaper and bits and pieces from around the house.

A voila !  What do you think.  It will be hung on a bracket on the garage wall outside our gate and I’ve made it so that I can change the inside to give it a different feel every now and again.  Hope the kiddies like it.

  1. You have such a wonderful imagination that you put to good practice. Lynn, you are a wonder with your makes and the idea of Big Ted has been a joy to see, even if only virtually.
I love the canary cage idea, I would never have thought of something like that - you must be regarded as the story teller of Healey Dell.
Well done for brightening the place up with your wonderful ideas. I applaud you.

  7. Ohh Lynn you are amazing to create these little vignette's for the families who walk by your home. I can understand the disappointment when the little ones don't find what they expect. I think you have created a never-ending story as you bring a smile to so many people. Stay safe as you create and I don't even know how you come up with so many amazing ideas. Love the hanging as well. :)

  8. Hi Lynn. What do I think??? Incredible, amazing, wonderful! What a fabulous idea - and all your other ideas, too. Happy walking children - and parents! How I would love to be walking past your gate each day at the moment.
Thanks for visiting, and for your comments. I don't believe it... nearly 40 years ago we as a family stayed in our caravan at Greenacres! We loved the fact that the girls were quite safe to simply walk down through the private gateway to the beach at Black Rock!!! Incredibly small world, isn't it? I suppose I must have some photos of that holiday somewhere. We let the girls borrow bikes from the site to ride around, and john and I played a lot of flat green bowls! I don't think we moved the car all week.
Take care. Stay safe. God bless.

  15. Had to laugh at the thought of the Wandering Welder agreeing to paint the canary cage without batting an eyelid, I bet like Mr Dunnit, he’s so used to it that nothing seems bizarre anymore!! But papering it did actually make me think twice and look at that for a result, it will be a huge hit! It is here, for sure! I rather suspect that you might have a reputation now......
