Well what a turn in the weather, it’s never stopped raining and the garden gate display is a poor show until the sun gets his hat on again.
Now to the matter in hand before Mrs Dunnit has my guts for garters again.
The desk ..............
A neighbour gave me this wooden box ages ago. It originally had cheese, biscuits and port from M&S in it. She knew I’d find a use for it.
So the plan is to paint it up, add vintage wallpaper to the back, some flooring and create little rooms. I’ve all sorts of bits and pieces to put in it.
I’m also making a book bag for this precious album that has a date inside of 1919 and has pages of paintings and verses, all done by different people for the original owner of the book.
Now please all stay safe and stay local the bad stuff isn’t over yet. We are lucky that we can check in on each other every Wednesday and chat about what we have or haven’t worked on, thanks to Mrs D. Hopefully I won’t be sent to the naughty step this week for waffling on.
See you soon
Lynn

Can't imagine you need to go to the naughty step! shame the weather has stopped your display, hope the sun comes back soon! Enjoy altering the box - what a nice gift to be repurposed! Helen #1
ReplyDeleteThat is a great box - your neighbour knows you well obviously! I think you've made a great start and I can't wait to see how you 'furnish' it. Love the fabcis for the album cover too, you have a knack for putting things together beautifully.

Morning Lynn. Hope it won't be too long before the garden gate display can come out to play! Your friends and neighbours must be missing it. That autograph album is beautiful. I have a couple almost identical with beautiful paintings etc. Many of the greetings are in Welsh. I think autograph albums have gone completely out of fashion, haven't they? Can't imagine folks today spending the time to paint a picture or add a meaningful verse to a page... Mine also go right back to the early 1900s. Glad you are making a bag for it. That will really keep it safe. Looking forward to seeing the little house when it is finished and filled.
ReplyDeleteTake care. Stay safe. God bless.

Just HAD to go look at your Album. I have a family one from my husband's side with very similar paintings, it is very precious. BJ#23
ReplyDeleteGorgeous album, definitely it deserves a book bag. How lovely. I dont know which I like more, the colour of the chalk paint or its name! It will make a lovely set of rooms, I’m already seeing it in my mind’s eye. Am quite offended by the turn in the weather, as I type its blackening over again, so another downpour seems imminent. I don't like it. Bet your walkers are a bit miffed too, spooling their enjoyment of your garden gate!
ReplyDeleteI love to alter boxes! Lovely idea to make a book bag for that precious album.
ReplyDeleteHopefully your garden gate will be back to normal soon...
Stay safe!

Well, big Ted might be having to stay indoors at the moment but I think you still have a lovely viewing station for passers by, especially in view of the weather.
ReplyDeleteLove the box you have been given, what a treat that was and what a lovely finished product I can imagine you making. You have the knack!
Hugs, Neet 5 xx
Really love your little wooden box and am certain you will make it look gorgeous by the time you've finished....the same with the bag for that gorgeous book. Keep up the good work.

Poor old Ted being confined to barrackes because of the vile weather! To be fair, it's not been too bad here if you ignore the sudden downpours, its actually quite warm when the sun's out!
ReplyDeleteI love the painted M&S gift box, the colour is fabulous, it matches our new kettle. We call it "Posh Person's Green".
I'm glad you're making a book bag for your album. I haven't seen mine in ages!
Stay safe! xxx
It’s the same tin of paint that the studio wall was done in. I bought it for the bottom part of the Welsh dresser last year. Did one coat and then never got round to doing another.
DeleteHoping for a bit of sunshine today, I’m meeting my friend in the park for a socially distanced picnic xxx
We can't have poor Ted out in a downpour, can we? I'm sure that little box will look fabulous once you've finished with it. The colour you've chosen is gorgeous. I love Vix's description of "Posh Person's Green" ;-) Very apt indeed! That album is lovely. I've had a look at your old post. What a wealth of beautiful things it contains. It certainly deserves one of your wonderful book bags! xxx
ReplyDeleteIt’s a beauty of an album Ann. I would to have met the person it belonged to and find out more about the very talented people who added to it. Xxx
DeleteI shouldn't worry about the display as most people will be hiding indoors until the rain stops. That box looks very useful and I look forward to seeing it finished. Wishing you a very happy and creative woyww, Angela x20x
ReplyDeleteYou'll soon have your garden gate display bring smiles to your local community when the sun comes out to play again, I bet passers by look forward to seeing what you leave next. Lovely thought Lynn. Love your colour choice for the box, it's a favoured paint of mine it waxes up fabulously. Stay safe & take good care & happy WoywW Tracey #8
ReplyDeleteNo naughty step required Lynn. Hope the weather is better soon and your garden display can go back out. Look forward to seeing the finished 'rooms'. Stay safe and happy WOYWW. Sarah #2
ReplyDeletepoor ted, he can do rainy day activities, I cannot wait to see what you create. I love old books. I have a thing for them. I don’t know why.
ReplyDeleteI like making simple cotton bags to put them in. It makes them even more special xx
DeleteI do love a good box - I'm sure it will look stunning. I had to go and check out that album - how fascinating! And the painting are all such a high standard, I would be intrigued as well. What a lovely little bit of history. Stay Safe, stay well, Cindy #27
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the box. No doubt it will be stunning as usual. That album is so special no wonder you want to preserve it so carefully. Thanks for sharing. Happy belated WOYWW. Take care and stay safe. With love & God Bless, Caro xxx (#17)
ReplyDeleteNo! naughty step 8s for naughty people and I am sure you don’t qualify. Yes, the rain did come down in torrents didn’t it, but you kept your outside display going for quite a while. Confess I love things that I plan to work on, but they get put into the cupboard for a later which never gets here! Another challenge maybe? X Angela #38
ReplyDeleteLovely box, Lynn, and I can't wait to see how you finish it. The album is very special - I hopped over to look at the pages and was entranced. People used to go to so much trouble to make things special! I remember a craze for autograph books at school and we'd just sign it, and perhaps add a saying or a poem, but all those gorgeous little drawings and paintings...! I have one that I inherited from Mum that goes way back - must dig it out and remind myself what's in it. I also have a collection of letters and cards saved by my grandmother who was a VAD nurse in WW1 - messages from the soldiers that she nursed, and some of them sent her photographs. That is something very special. I look forward to seeing the book bag that you make for your album - I've never heard of such a thing before and it may give me an idea of what to do with my little treasures!
ReplyDeleteThere's always something so interesting and intriguing on your blog! Really out of the ordinary.
Happy belated WOYWW,

Thanks for visiting, Lynn, and I had to smile - I envy you! What I have wanted is to have 40 winks (and sometimes have had to succumb, no choice in the matter) because I'm really too busy, and wear myself out completely! I don't get going very early in the mornings and usually get up late and have a leisurely breakfast in my kaftan. I've got a very busy week ahead, being out 2 days, and taking food, so I've spent most of today in the kitchen. When I sit down, I tend to drop off through sheer exhaustion!!
